Yeah I think trying to excite people with Siri improvements and then not being able to deliver, was a rather avoidable oversight.

Apple:
Hey guys, you know that rather unreliable voice assistant we launched in 2011 and then spent 14 years ignoring, but making an integral part of all our devices? Well, in 2024 we are bringing huge advancements through Apple Intelligence!...... Actually, early 2025, errr, a bit later in 2025! We hope...... Maybe we shouldn't have mentioned it yet...

It'll be interesting to see if any of the tech press are.

I know the YouTube shills will be sucking up as usual, sadly.
What you will probably see is something like is a wee bit of criticism then something along the lines of look other companies have done mistakes so then it doesn’t appear they are going to hard into apple

What people also have an issue with (too much, in my opinion) is either hearing about a product that they think is coming and agonizing over their "do I buy now or wait for forthcoming X" decision, which we see all the time in the forums, or being upset that Apple might have some update to a product, and that it somehow makes their current version of a product less valuable.

I see both sentiments here all the time, and I have a feeling that those people will be even more upset when they don't have information from Apple.

For the record, I think it's in Apple's best interests to under-promise and over-deliver. The Apple Intelligence ads and announcements debacle has harmed the brand, and revealed that the senior executive level is a mess. They need to get their house in order (which of course, they know by now). So I'm all for having their announcements aligned with reality. I'm just saying there is a segment of the MR commentariat that is going to lose its collective mind when they have less insight into Apple's plans, and we'll read alllll about their frustrations here. :insert hundreds of crying emojis:
I had that recently, from both sides.

I kept putting off the upgrade of my Mac mini M1 at home and my MacBook Air M1 at work, because the Air M4 was due "anytime now", I waited and waited and waited... Then I went, "to hell with it," and bought the MacBook Pro M4 Pro for home, because I couldn't wait any longer. 3 weeks later, the Air M4 finally turned up!

I love the MBP, but it is overkill for what I need.

But I sent a message to an ex-colleague, that I had upgraded... He bought the M3 Pro when it was released a year earlier and was complaining about how it was out of date now! This from a guy who went from a 2018 Intel MBP to the M3 Pro!

This is not 2007 anymore they can’t get away with announcing or launching software that isn’t ready the landscape has changed

That isn’t entirely it. It’s not so much that the industry is more mature / professional now. It’s that AI specifically just doesn’t lend itself to being rushed, in the way that more traditional engineering can be (if resources are thrown at it).

In the past, Apple has likely got away with announcing products that weren’t quite ready. Some engineers just needed to work weekends for a bit. But AI is a different beast and Apple have been caught out.
