So in the EU, do they regulate say the navigation systems in cars, so that if you owned a BMW and Mercedes, you could install the same navigation updates and software on both cars?
You can replace the infotainment system, and thus the navigation system. I do have to say that I don’t know how easy this is with all the cars having glorified ipads these days.

The first hit on Duck searching ‘replace infotainment bmw z4’ gave me this z4-forum: https://z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=133268

Ok, so translate that to an auto. If I buy a German made BMW, should I be able to use Ford or GM parts on it? It's my car, I am I stuck buying overpriced BMW parts.
You can put whatever on it you want. I mean with the way things are it doesn’t take a lot to make anything work. Someone else said can’t put Ford wheels on a Porsche. But you can but why would you want to. It’s all about do you want to do it and can you afford it. That’s the thing anything can be machined and you can put anything you want on it and BMW can’t come back and say hey we don’t want those Mercedes parts on our BMW. But that’s not W’s decision. They sold you the car and you can then do whatever you want with it. Can even put Mercedes logo on it.

Depends on the country, there is quite a difference between culture, income, ppp etc. France just under 30%, but Norway nearly hits 70%, and Lithuania 80%. In Eastern Europe (+Hungary) there are a couple of states hitting lower than 20%.

Differences are huge in Europe, indeed. Still, provided stats seem to be highly unreliable. First source listed on the site is statcounter.com where marketshare for Android/iOS in Lithuania in 75/25% in 2025 and 15/85% (!!) one year before. It's hardly possible more than half of Lithuanian population swapped iOS to Android in one year.

The you is essential too, because you can choose to do out yourself, or go to an independent garage, or the dealership.

You are neither forced to the parts from the manufacturer, nor their service, nor specific machinery that only they provide.

I agree, I thought it was pretty high, but for Norway, France, and Netherlands, they seem to be similar to other reports I have seen over the years, and from personal experience.

It doesn’t really matter, however, the point is, there are significant differences. Economic factors play, amongst others, an important factor.
