Very nice! Great job, Apple. Very quick response!

How do you know Apple wasn't aware of this before the iPhone was released? They had deadlines. The new phones may be better constructed.

...... you got to be kidding me right?

you think chinese factories already rolled out with a new material, made millions of iPhones, and are at apple stores already all across the world?

not to mention that they have to test this material?

its called common sense

Apple Will Start Replacing Bent iPhones

No, I wasn't kidding. How about we wait for the facts. This whole bend thing is completely ridiculous. Get out of your feelings. It's too early for that.

there are facts, the fact is, its impossible for apple to roll out a new design with a new material with enough amount of devices in a short period of time.

the bend thing isn't ridiculous, its not going to bend in your front pocket if your not in some weird awkward position.

if anyone puts their smartphone in their back pocket and sit on it, which is a small computer. i really have to question their intelligence.

The whole front consists of a display, its common sense.

If they did this it would be a bad idea for Apple.

If someone bent their Iphone in the first week of use, then Apple would be giving that person 104 Iphones over the course of 2 years. If anyone thinks their shareholders at Apple would be okay with giving away 104 Iphones*Number of people who bend their phone.

Now one could say it would be limited to one new replacement - Then that again is just not logical. If they bent their phone, again, in the first week, it would be bent again shortly there after.

Lastly you could argue people would use their phone differently, but now you are telling me these guys are going to buy purses or hold their phones 24/7. I would simply say I disagree and walk away.

Providing a structurally strong phone case, however ugly it may be, would be a MUCH more realistic answer.

It's completely ridiculous. That's not to say some people aren't experiencing the problem. I just think the media exposure of this issue is out of control. But, I'm done. I don't have a 6+, nor do I work for Apple; therefore, my input is meaningless.

Maybe it will be like the iPad 3 and they will replace it with a new model in 6 months (or even less).

Easy to fix, make the outside shell thicker. Recall all 6+ and replace with new 7.3 or 7.4mm cases that are a tad wider and thicker. I would assume new buttons and sim tray as well.

Leave bottom same thickness so no redesign on ports or speakers. No bending issues there anyway.

Take old phones and switch out internals to new shells and use as refurbs for store replacements.

Edit: Would piss off case makers though. Might have to offer free case as well to keep people happy.

you really don't know how business works do you :) any dent in profits over this will be passed onto the customer in some way shape or form in the next fiscal year. All costs are passed onto the customer in business dealings. Nothing is ever free, nothing is ever a good deal UNLESS you haggle for it yourself. Then and only then can you know you got a deal.

Uh, you're making pretty generalized statements that simply are often not true.

One example: Loss leader.

(Also: If something is offered "free" to me, and the cost WAS actually passed on to you....then it was still free to me.)

The bend test video we all know was unfair they need to use a new iphone 6+ without any bend.

If you see the video of the test the iphone 6 + was already damaged, and as you know a bend aluminum is a lot easier to bend. If the iphone 6 + of the video was 100% ok I am sure that it will not bend or it will be too difficult to bend.

Why nobody is speaking about this? Maybe the iphone 6 + was placed in the back pocket and that caused to bend, then after already having a bend issue it is easier to bend it with your hands.

It would be great that some one try to bend a new iphone without any bend to see how hard it is. Maybe it will be as hard as the iphone 6

Also I am sure that the iphone 6 + bends more easily because of heat, all metals bend easier when you heat them. If your are in a heat place or your iphone is too hot it will bend easier.

Someone needs to make more tests about the bend issue with more heat, cold, and more.

With 20 million visits the bend iphone 6 + video is too popular but I think it was done incorrectly and that video is an unfair test.

Loss leaders are usually written off/into as part of advertising budget.

Apple has made NO SUCH COMMITMENT!

If I were them I would send every iPhone 6 Plus owner a text telling them that they are not responsible if the phone bends if carried in their pocket.

Done.

Legally they'd be on shaky ground, certainly here in the UK - carrying a phone in a trouser pocket would be considered "normal use" under the Sale of Goods Act

Exactlly. You put a phone in your too tight hipster jeans and sit on it and it bends it is surely Apple's problem.

And they can even advertise it: "You're Stupid? We step up!"

Basically... lol

Sorry, but I still fail to see how you can bend a phone if you use an ounce of common sense.

Sitting on it however does give new meaning to "butt dial" :D:D

Their design and use of soft metal is the cause of the phone bending. If you cannot put a phone in a suit pant pocket as what happened to one member, then there's a design issue.

People shouldn't put phones in their back pocket especially with skinny jeans but there's enough posts, videos of this occurring with non skinny jeans.

All depends how s/he is sitting. I've had my 6+ in the front pocket of my slim jeans, but I always make sure I sit properly because I don't want to damage (scratch, etc) my phone. I've always done that.

That's not the point. This can be seen as a gesture of good will and will make Apple look good instead of not recognizing an issue or decrying it.

Yup, this is the point IMO. It's a PR move, nothing strange about that.

They might not have taken as generous a route with whatever the 5 and 5s were getting blamed for, but then the new designs are in a much riskier place with the big step up in screen size and added thinness to boot. Their customer base would destroy them in terms of PR if it proved that their bold new 6 Plus which many are still doubting and ridiculing actually also bends if you look at it wrong.

Their source is an online Apple support representative. They get things wrong all the time and offer their own opinions on things.

Promote the CSR to a customer service director!! It's just a CSR's opinion but I believe Apple will officially accept that solution.
