I see Apple crashed badly but all the chip and AI stocks are going to keep pumping for two years or more. So I came across this thread again and laugh.
This Zitron guy says something about Apple going to do well if the AI bubble is crashing but the last few days we saw the opposite thing happen. Then we learned from Tim Cook’s final call that Apple is investing hard and increasing their AI research budget. Does Zitron know where Braeburn Capital? It is an Apple owned asset management company that invests billions in all the latest technologies including AI obviously.
This Zitron guy must have egg on his face. It just sounds like he doesn’t know anything about Apple’s history. Steve Jobs famously talked about users asking questions to an AI instead of painfully typing search engine words and scrolling dead end pages. That was also the original vision of AI and networking by the pioneers of computing since the middle of the last century.
AI is not just the future it was supposed to be here already. There were some predicting it would be with us in the 1980s but the compute power needed was more than they imagined.
There are lots of commentors in this thread who appear to be oblivious of this whole long history of computing. AI and machine learning has been around longer than the mouse.
If we look to the future, most of the fears people have about AI are actually fears they have about people. People fire workers not AI. People produce slop. People are perverts who photoshop celeb faces on nudes. People are dangerous liars. People hack company servers. AI is actually overall safer than people because the front end and chat templates can be configured with safety in mind. You can adjust AI models on the fly. You can’t fix humanity’s bad habits and criminality on the fly.
Only Elon thinks the future will be moneyless and AI will produce abundant infinite chocolate ice cream. If you’re smart you know nothing is going to change. Humans are always going to do what they did. They’ll just do it faster with AI. It’s like the difference between sports and steroid sports. That’s all.
Every other argument is bogus especially the environmental BS. They’re going to generate their own energy, they are going to be building mostly on brown sites, and the energy savings of AI can reduce energy consumption elsewhere. Filmmakers don’t need to fly to the Australian desert with a whole crew when they can show photos of the desert to an AI model and get a virtual set generated in 10 minutes.
