Don't you think Apple has already thought of this?
Just wait and find out.
Like apple thought about the new 2016-2019 macbook keyboard? or heat or bending ipads ?
jesus, where you lived in the last 4 years? Apple now is about profit first and product/service second
Nothing is sure with Apple nowadays

OMG!! That doesn't even relate. SHEESH!

I'll NEVER subscribe to Apple Music, and I've spent hundreds of dollars in the iTunes store (and planned to continue to). I lack the confidence in Tim Cook to think he'd have something acceptable to migrate the folks like me who were happy with what they had already sans Apple Music subscription to. I guess I'll find out on Monday. This might be the last straw that will make me go back to windows after being a Mac user for 13 years. Tim Cook is a terrible CEO.
I think the only feature keeping me on the Mac platform is Time Machine. I get the impression that versioning tools on Windows and Linux aren’t as good.

I think the bottom line for most everyone is that an iTunes functional desconstruction is long overdue, and if Apple does it right all will be good in the world, but few expect Apple to do it right. We won't know what current functionality will be lost until Apple takes the wraps off, we just know that it's likely that there will be losses. So, we wait.

Of those you listed, only one came late into the market. The others were not even remotely as late as the Zune was

Just because they don’t pull it, doesn’t mean it’s not a failure. How long did it take for them to pull the Apple Airport?

The fact remains that Microsoft did not want to continue selling Zune, was it a loss to produce, reports claim yes. XBOX was also produced at a loss, Microsoft continued with it longer than Zune. Is XBOX still a loss, not sure.

I believe Microsoft did not feel it was worth they investment to continue and thus ended the product. Compare that with the 2019 iPod Touch, it’s still being produced, I bet at profit however it had ceased being a hit product since iPhone replaced it’s capabilities over the course of years.

Apple did not reveal if AirPort, Cinema Display were terminated due to lack of sales, just lost interest in the product category or seeking to introduce something new.

Airport Express was an amazing product. I am not disputing what is considered a hit product or not, I am simply stating that in this case Microsoft did not feel it was worth they time to continue with Zune due to lack lustre sales. Though operating at a loss has not stopped them before or at present.

I hope they just provide a lower cost subscription to Spotify. I have gotten all my music from Spotify for the last 5 years.

How is not related? when apple cannot do solid software or solid hardware anymore?
ohh, so the next macOS is not from Apple?? ok than it is not related, jesus apple sheeps these days
Bottom line, no i am not sure Apple thought about DFU mode and the other important things

Rumors have it they did. Apparently the new Music app will keep the syncing, back up, restore and DFU mode capabilities previously found in iTunes. In other words, Music for macOS is basically iTunes minus the movies and podcasts, which will now be moved over to their new standalone apps, and audiobooks, which will likely be sent to the Books app.

Dear Lordy!
An unexpected, unintended manufacturing issue does NOT relate to a purposeful omission of a software feature!
And I am sure Apple did think about DFU mode.
I don't even know how to respond anymore to this nonsense.
In any event, we will find out soon.
I am done with you.

Ok, thank you, that is an mature answear

Unexpected, unintended ??? when you are making the same mistake for years...by definition your statement is wrong !
Grow up, stop defending an company. An apple fanboy always think the best for their beloved company, but an mature person, think with history in mind. Apple is no longer , the same brand under an visionary person, is under an
accountant and this can be seen from distance

Translation: Control iconography will be difficult to understand and needlessly moved to another location. Functionality will be obfuscated or removed entirely. Siri on Mac still won't know how to handle it all properly. Your Library will vanish.

Yeah, I doubt it.

Only a few hours to go. Tighten your britches and then we’ll see.

Read this thread. People are bitching and moaning about either what to do with their music, or how Apple is just ruining the world. And no one knows a damn thing about 10.15 yet, so the whining and kvetching is completely immature.

I haven’t launched iTunes in months, maybe over a year. I experience all my music through Apple Music on my iPhone, iPad, Watch and HomePod. I’m going to open iTunes when I get home and take it for one last ride.

agree if this is the case.

Interesting to do it today. Because iOS, macOS etc are not due out for a few months. So if they are deleting today are we due for an early release of these products? iTunes typically updated out of cycle?
When iTunes was announced, it was available the same day to download. Maybe in iTunes honor they’ll do the same.

So the LA Times is reporting that the iTunes Store is shutting down and Apple is "ending the download era." Is this simply an issue of nomenclature where they're shutting down the iTunes Store but the Music, TV and Podcast Stores are opening up in its place, or are they seriously expected to end the ability to purchase and download music and trying to strong-arm everyone into a lifetime of monthly AM subscription fees?

End of iTunes
iTunes has been the way Apple users listen to music, watch movies and TV shows, hear podcasts, and manage their devices for almost two decades. This year, Apple is finally ready to move into a new era. The company is launching a trio of new apps for the Mac – Music, TV, and Podcasts – to replace iTunes. That matches Apple’s media app strategy on iPhones and iPads. Without iTunes, customers can manage their Apple gadgets through the Music app.
The paragraph quoted above is the only one pertaining to iTunes in the original Bloomberg story.

The LAT story is doomed by two fundamental errors -- the failure to note the distinction between the iTunes app and the iTunes store, and a failure to comprehend the source material it was based on, Gurman's Bloomberg story.

The original story gives no indication that the store is being shut down. How the LAT writer divined that is a mystery that can only be explained by just plain ignorance, or a remote chance that he has some further inside info, which is unlikely since it is not written from that angle.

It would be a notable failure on a forum, never mind the major newspaper in one of the U.S. media capitals.

On a broader level, journalism is only hastening its demise by abandoning its basic principles and placing a reliance on social media as source material. It's not only lazy, but ultimately, dangerous.

Good Lord... you people on MR scream hourly for new, innovative, and disruptive software, and when it happens, you cry for the good ol’ days.

Make up your collective minds!
I never did cry for new software. I have only wanted the software to be "it just works" instead of design over function.
It can be proven in my post history or just look at my signature.
You probably quoted the wrong fellow.

No, I pegged the right poster.

You whined that you won’t buy a new Mac... because iTunes won’t be there??

Your post was just one example of what I was talking about.

I’m panicking now, since I have a iTunes library on the external with music and movies and I dunno how the new apps can handle them. I hope it still works.

I guess they'll change the name to Store to make it as easy to search the Internets for problems and info like the unique Music, Podcast, Books and TV names.
The Deadwood Movie is playing in the background, but I'll refrain from any colorful name-calling.

Finder and VLC will play them just fine. Easy music organization is a little trickier.
