I have an old Wacom and I would like a new one, but they are still so expensive. I have gotten really good at drawing with a mouse, but I would like to start using the Wacom (a new model) again.

I sound like an advertisement, don't I. I've got an Intuous ($189?) and a Graphire ($$89new?)

I can't use a mouse for more than a few minutes without screaming for my pen.

And for digital art, the pen's the only way to fly.

You would be amazed by some of the work you can do with the mouse, al it takes is a steady hand. :) But the pen is a better choice in the long run.
I have an old digitizer 2 from Wacom and I was looking at Wacoms like this :

But I am thinking I still can get by using the 6x8.

We don't have a choice. You have to buy the standard one button mouse with the system. If you want the wireless, you have to buy it in addition.

Choice myass!

Apple will never bundle a wireless mouse as standard with their Macs (notwithstanding the obvious that's already been stated ad nauseum in this thread that some people just refuse to get). It would also be stupid of you to buy just a wireless mouse and then toss the wired one out. Why?

Because both the wireless keyboard and mouse do not work in single user mode. I would also expect that they may not work when trying to use the Startup Manager or when trying to boot from a CD by holding down the C key, and maybe not even when booted from the installation CD (although maybe the Panther installation CD will fix this) -- but these latter points are just my expectations. I know for a fact that they don't work in single user mode, but I can't find the kbase article that mentions that.

The fact that a wireless keyboard/mouse don't work in every situation is exactly why Apple should throw in a thin, short USB AB cable for those times. Sounds pretty simple to me, I'm surprised they didn't make the wireless units work both ways.

(And that cable could also charge the batteries if you opted for rechargeables.)

scroll wheel and multi button mouse

Is it possible that Apple would have to pay fees to have these features on their mouses?

Maybe these patent royalties would make the price of the mouse too high to compete with other companies?

How to get the Apple Mouse working on Windows

Just thought I'd post this to help anyone who was in my situation trying to get the Apple Mouse working with Windows.

I got mine working on the new XP SP2 Bluetooth stack but I'm sure it will work with the old one and the WIDCOMM drivers:

While pairing in the Windows stack chose to require authentication, then enter the pairing code 0000, after it is paired select it to use the HID periferal drivers.
On the WIDCOMM ones just pair as usual but enter the pairing code 0000.

Hope this helps.
