Now, see that's the Apple we know. By the way, I was told once that the service depot technicians are not Apple employees. Do you know where your notebook was shipped to? It's possible that it was sent to a third-party service provider like Flextronics (Memphis, TN).

I talked to a service depot tech once that I couldn't even hear because of the high-level of factory noise in the background. I hung up on him and just dealt with actual AppleCare. Apple's a big company. I know they're jerks in every company, but if you keep pushing you'll get to the right person eventually.

The new MacBook's are fantastic. You'll love it.

it came from a "authorized" apple repair location in Texas CTS in Houston...

Im glad that all worked out. I have a unibody macbook and my friend has a pro. I love mine but his is a lot faster. What specs did they give you?

Good for you and I hope that you receive a perfect machine. I had a number of problems with an older PB and it was replaced with the recent MBP. It is painful while it's happening but it eventually gets worked out for the best.

hmm now i have to wait for some other guy to call me to work out the details... hopefully that will be soon...

it takes 24 hours from the time they tell you your computer will be replaced to actually getting a person on the line who will be handling your replacment.

You will receive a call within 24 hours .. and that person will be the person who'll keep in contact with you for the rest of the way (from ordering to follow up).

They required proof of shipment of my faulty laptop before they placed the order. The turn around from proof of shipment to ordering for me was just a few hours. Obviously that all depends on how well you're kept in contact with your rep and how soon you ship your faulty laptop out.

Shipment was done overnight for me, but I'm not sure if that's standard.

As unfortunate as your story has been... there's an upside really. You've gone from a 2004 powerbook ... to a late 2008 unibody macbook pro... with no cost difference. That's not a bad deal in my eyes.

The powerbook that i purchased with the various upgrades and such actually still cost more (2400 dollars if i recall correctly) than the unibody MBP (1,999) that i am receiving

I called appl on a friday and my macbook was on my doorstep by tuesday. Its a really fast process. What upgrades did you do to it?

perhaps.. but your upgraded powerbook (4 years later) is probably worth <$650 now. Regardless of how you spin it... it's a pretty sweet upgrade, and I'm sure others would agree.

I'm just saying - it's not all bad. In fact, I'd be quite happy with that.

Yeah, but depreciation is a killer. That same Powerbook, if it were mint, would be worth less than 1000 dollars today, so I think you should be pretty glad that you are getting a new unibody MBP. Especially since you are long past your original warranty.

ps. enjoy:D

Sorry to hear of this problem.

I've heard of Macs being affected by software bugs, but never lady bugs! :)

I hope your new MBP Unibody arrives safely and you never have an issue again...

The first calls were just not of Apple standard. The last few were much better.

Let us know whether it arrives safely!

Huh

I fell bad to hear about your computer problems but it's surprising to me that they continued to give you machines for a machine that you bought more than 4 years ago. The story just sounds a little fishy. Sounds like you have figured out a way to work the system to get a new machine when they came out. You bought a PB more than 4 years ago and ended up with a new MBP? WOW!

Typically the original warranty would have be in play and they would have told you to pound salt several machines back. It looks like you were using the web and the jobs e mail addy to guilt a new machine out of them.

I am glad you got it but I am not sure I would have voted a new machine for someone how has had so many upgrades from an old Powerbook.

If you get the notebook back with the lady bugs (or lady birds) in it, take them to a university near you with an entomology program. They can ID the bugs as being foreign or domestic. It would be very hard to ID them reliably from pictures.

I was thinking the exact same thing; try to get them identified as being native Chinese ladybugs and you get a new laptop :) They come in all forms and sizes (for example, here are a couple of Dutch ladybugs) so perhaps this four spotted bug can be identified as Chinese?

It could be a dificult job though:

Coccinellidae is a family of beetles, known variously as ladybirds (British English, Australian English, South African English), ladybugs (North American English) or lady beetles (preferred by some scientists). Lesser-used names include ladyclock, lady cow, and lady fly.[1] The family name comes from its type genus, Coccinella. Coccinellids are found worldwide, with over 5,000 species described,[2] more than 450 native to North America alone.

Looks a bit like this one though:

Seriously, I'm really curious. How is it you managed to wrangle a brand new laptop out of a computer that wasn't even covered by warranty? If it was a 2004 then even if you had AppleCare that would have expired in '07 and its almost '09 now. Did you send it in expecting to pay the bill for repairs/diagnostics?

You don't sound too grateful based on your comment that this machine cost less than your '04 did but you should be over the moon. Considering depreciation in value *and* your old comp's specs that is a MAJOR upgrade for free. As you found Apple has great customer service and bends over backwards, a little too far some times. Your old machine wasn't perfect, there were obvious flaws which is why you sent it in so even if they gave you a credit for a discount on a new machine it would have been a good deal for you. This is over the top imo but its good to see how they looked after you for the shoddy way you were dealt with by the depot people.

I'm not happy with repairs done at Apple either but like me, you should be over the moon happy with their customer service.

Just got a call from Apple Executive Relations, they have been following my case and saw that I was able to work out the replacement without them, they called to let me know that I should have my new laptop at my house tomorrow morning! and as well that they have let go and fired the two support personnel that mistreated me before. they also extended a apology "directly from Steve Jobs"

got a call like literally a few seconds after that from a number that came up on my caller ID as "Infinite Loop" to inform me that my laptop had shipped from cupertino and that a product specialist inspected it himself to make sure it was clean and "free of any insects" we had a laugh about all of it and wanted to make "damn sure you don't have issues like this again" by offering me 2 years of complementary ProCare and said he would be giving me free AppleCare on this computer, he also went on to completely apologize for ALL the laptops I had problems with in the past.

all in all i am very happy with the response..

I don't buy this for one minute. I think it is total bullcrap. Ladybugs? Yeah right. Second you had a Powerbook and then it was replaced with a Macbook Pro and now you get it replaced with a new unibody Macbook Pro. It just seems too convenient that in each new major update your breaks and you get a new one for free. Like I said I think someone is full of it.

The original 2004 laptop was replaced in 06' after the logic board crashed more than 4 times, the replacement laptop had new apple care and was replaced again in april after logic board failures.

and believe me I am beyond grateful for this company to provide such excellent service, Im not trying to sound terse but i expect a high level of quality assurance with there laptops and when the criteria is not met, i expect a response that they have shown me in the past (not a replacement, but a fix or solution of some kind)

You dont buy it? look at the images yourself, they are on page 1-2 of this very forum.

your second point, My computer crashed on me after 3 years of good service last april, i wasnt expecting a replacement at the time but it was offered to me, this time i was actively looking for a repair (not replacement), but again the replacement was offered to me because of the depot specialists mistreating me so badly.

dude, every now and then a ROACH will come running out of my PowerBook. It's ***** crazy. I don't know what they want in there!

I know for a fact that roaches like to eat the insulation off of wires... might want to kill them before they do something serious...

Anyone can fake pictures. Plus I don't believe all that evil service happened to you. I don't believe any of it. I think this whole story is bogus for shi-- and giggles (attention). You buy a Powerbook years ago and get a new Pro when they do a major upgrade each time. At this rate you will NEVER have to buy another laptop. You must be the unluckiest person in the world(or the biggest scam artist). Whatever dude. I don't buy the crap you are trying to sell.

It isn't like you care what I think anyways.

Why would anyone go through the trouble of making all this up just to get attention from a couple of strangers typing at their computers? Nobody has any reason to believe that he's faking it.

Do you believe that the Apollo missions to the moon were faked too? Or that the Kennedy assassination was a conspiracy? :p
