Dude, Apple totally looked after you over & above the call of duty. I think you OWE it to them to address this. That article doesn't say anything about the resolution you received and so is currently dishonest. I hope you didn't send it to them, how did you hear about this blog? Either way you need to fix that.

Nice outcome

I don't think he is trying to "work" the system. Forget about the ladybugs for a second, I'm pretty sure Apple was able to go back to the phone conversation in their records (you know "this conversation may be recorded for quality assurance purposes"). And based on the outcome of the story (employees fired), I am sure the OP got the new MPB not necessarily because of the bugs, but because of the "inexcusable" service based on Apple's standards.

I am currently in discussion with the head editor of the consumerist to post a update on my story that will cast Apple back into the light.

Uh oh! Apple just agreed to replace my late 2006 2.33GHz MBP with a brand new one after 5 repairs and a final conk-out. I hope there's no ladybugs in it! That's the first thing I'll look for.

I hope they at least send you a refurbished machine or something. Seeing as how you started with a PowerBook, I don't think it's right to ask them for a brand new MacBook Pro.

they probably came in through the rear where the vent is.

yeah the rear vent is big enough for the bugs to enter.

Edit: Sorry for the random/late reply, I didn't read through the whole thread. I wish Apple would do the same for my semi-lemon Macbook Pro, but I'm trying to not have to go through any trouble and just put up with it for now.
