oh yes, this seems like a made up story. Hmmm what would be funny? LADy bugs and water damage. right... THis is to crazy to be made up.

I'm glad it all worked out for you. I have these bugs where I live and once I was changing some tubes in my 1 head on my amp and I had them in there. They get every where and it amazes me where I find them sometimes.

People will think whatever they want to believe, its what the individual feels is correct that matters.

got a call like literally a few seconds after that from a number that came up on my caller ID as "Infinite Loop" to inform me that my laptop had shipped from cupertino and that a product specialist inspected it himself to make sure it was clean and "free of any insects" we had a laugh about all of it and wanted to make "damn sure you don't have issues like this again" by offering me 2 years of complementary ProCare and said he would be giving me free AppleCare on this computer, he also went on to completely apologize for ALL the laptops I had problems with in the past.

all in all i am very happy with the response..

jeez.. so not only did you go from a 2004 Powerbook to a late 2008 unibody macbook pro.. they also gave you Applecare for free?

Something tells me this macbook pro will "fail" again in or before 2010 and you'll get another macbook pro............and it won't be good enough because it's not the $2400 you paid for your initial powerbook...
.... in 2004.

Seriously though. That's an amazing upgrade that anybody would take in a heartbeat and be extremely grateful (and not comment on how it's not the same value as a computer you paid for 4 years ago).

No im buying my next laptop, I have no reason to believe this one wont last me the next couple years until the warrantee is done, and then ill buy whatever is available

just curious.. what tier is Corporate Customer Care Administration?

I don't think they're a "tier" per se. I had a corporate customer care admin rep take care of my replacement - and my case was nothing special.

I'm guessing they're just the ones that hold your hand throughout the process of getting your replacement to make sure you're satisfied.

hmmm so its just a fancy named group of people that make sure your being taken care of... cool.

Congrats!

Just got a call from Apple Executive Relations, they have been following my case and saw that I was able to work out the replacement without them, they called to let me know that I should have my new laptop at my house tomorrow morning! and as well that they have let go and fired the two support personnel that mistreated me before. they also extended a apology "directly from Steve Jobs"

Wow, that worked out nicely. Like one of the other posters said "now that's the Apple we all know" and love. Regardless, it's awesome to find a company that continues to put the customer first. It's decisions that they make like this that keep our loyalty. Probably another reason Apple is cash rich right now when other companies are folding. They make quality products and provide quality care and support. I'm happy for you, and in turn, happy for the rest of us. That's how we'll be treated should something go wrong.

That's an amazing upgrade that anybody would take in a heartbeat and be extremely grateful .

If I had several computers fail on me, and had gone through the trouble of getting replacements and setting them up, I wouldn't exactly feel grateful, even if a G3 iBook had been replaced by a current MBP over the years.

Warranty replacements are not a gift, they are a right, and the whole process is a pain in the arse .

Wow! That is one heck of a story. Even with as much detail as you included, it really leaves a lot to be suspicious of. Nowhere in your story do you explain how they arrived at the determination of water damage or if you in fact had damaged your laptop with water. Also, lady bugs are not going to "infest" a laptop. There is no food source and the environment with the extremely warm temperatures would likely desiccate them completely.

This story is akin to other stories in which people have found mice in their beer or a human finger in chili. Even those stories are more believable because one could conceive the notion that a worker could loose a finger in an accident or a mouse could find it's way into a beer bottle. Bugs in a computer? Even if somehow eggs were deposited in your computer from the factory, there is no way they would hatch and survive into the pupal and larval stages of life and become adult ladybugs which you have provided photographic evidence of.

That being said, I do believe that if you are having problems with a product that is the result of some manufacturing defect then you should be entitled to repair or replacement.

Enjoy your new computer

Its sort of funny the candor between different people in the forum as to who believes me and who does not, just out of morbid curiosity what would it take to prove it?

If this happened to me I would need my Powerbook fixed or give me a Pro.

I use Final Cut Studio and the Unibodys don't have firewire and the whitebooks graphics cards can't run Motion,Color, CoreImage, etc.

Those are asian lady bugs btw.

Really, there isn't much that you could do via internet that would convince me. I only pointed out the areas in your story which make it difficult to believe due to their improbability.

More importantly why would you care if I believe your story? You have no need to convince me you merely needed to convince Apple.

I bear no malice towards you for having your laptop replaced. As I mentioned before if it's their fault, Apple should repair or replace it.

Enjoy

There is no way to prove the story "credible", within the confines of an online forum. The reader is left to judge credibility based solely on the information provided by the author.

* 4 iPods replaced by Apple

* 2004 Powerbook replaced with 2008 MBP

I'm not judging the truthfulness of your story. Simply pointing out that any customer with this much history is either extremely unlucky, or working the system.

In the end, assuming the above replacements are true, Apple Customer Care has treated you extremely well, given your stated history.

Congratulations on your new MBP. Enjoy !

Please tell us how a mouse could find its way into a beer bottle? This I have to hear. I don't buy for a second that lady bugs made it over from Asia IN this laptop (assuming he resides in the US). We're talking an OLD computer, his laptop would have had to have been host to hundreds and hundreds of lady bugs over the years to make it this far and still be alive. The bugs either got in at the OP's house or at the repair shop.

It's common knowledge that when you receive a "new" replacement unit from Apple the warranty period starts over.

I had an original Core Duo MacBook replaced some 8 months after I purchased it with a Core 2 Duo MacBook. The replacement came with a notice notifying me of the new 1-year warranty on the replacement unit.

Apple iPods and iPhone's are somewhat trickier. If you manage to have your unit replaced with a refurbished unit — you keep the warranty of the original iPod/iPhone. If you have problems with the refurbished replacement unit, and Apple issues you a new unit — you'll get a new 1-year warranty with the new unit.

If you purchased the AppleCare Protection Plan on any of the above products, and you get a new replacement unit — your AppleCare also starts over.

this was a MBP not a powerbook, and it ive only had it since april as it was a replacement for a powerbook that had failed on me numerous times and repairs had not fixed

Sensational Story For The Media - Does Not Help Apple to Help You!

That is it. Use part of this story to create sensational headlines so the masses think Apple is bad.

Do you work for Microsoft ?

I have to say that is quite a story. I think the biggest problem you are going to have is getting someone to believe it, as some of it sounds quite bizarre. I don't know you, and am not trying to pass judgement... I'm just saying that based purely on what was posted here, its sounds hard to believe anyone could be this unlucky, and that people would act the way they did to you when you were politely behaving in a totally professional manner.

I was thinking the same thing. I've had 3 iPods, and 3 Apple Laptops and not had even close to the problems you describe. I did have the CD eject issue with two laptops and in each case Apple fixed them both very quickly at no charge.

My laptops go with me everywhere in a backpack so it's not like a baby them.

Respectfully, I am just having trouble swallowing all of this. Maybe I missed it, but ARE YOU responsible for the water damage? Were you aware of water damage?

In addition, and I'm no entomologist, but how the heck can a number of lady bugs, live inside a laptop, and grow to that size giving the heat generated and a complete lack of food?

This just isn't passing the smell test with me.
