The usual spacing between releases is about 18 months, so I think 2024 is more likely, right?
I believe so. I still believe 2023 will be a big year for the iPads. In 2022 It was more of a "S" year for the iPads. Rest assured, it will be worth upgrading next year :)

Is OLED likely to allow thinner and lighter iPads?

Might be a decent usability upgrade for the 12.9” which seems to get regularly called too bulky to be portable.

I’d like to see an 8.5” pro though, the pilots who use it in cockpits seem to prefer the traditional aspect ratio of the mini 5 rather than the the new look mini 6.

There’s surely room in a mini 7 with OLED to use a bigger battery with the space savings due to thinner screen tech while M3 (even if downclocked or binned) with lower power draw might be possible.

Ah yes exactly what the iPad needs; 1/10 inch bigger screen and maybe the 13th and 14th different resolution targets for developers.

Not like it’s been 11 years and we still don’t have a calculator app or the ability to add our own music to the music library.

Can't wait to upgrade from my 2017 A10 Fusion 12.9 iPad Pro to my 2024 M4 13 inch iPad Pro with Magic keyboard. No stylus or cellular this time and will be going with 512 GBs of storage.
7 year run with the same iPad. Nice. you’ve definitely gotten your use out of it. I’ve still got a 2020 and I’ve been itching to upgrade but I’m gonna try and be patient until 2024. The longer you wait, the more of an upgrade it feels like

Are people really not simply…downloading a calculator app from the App Store? I did the day I got my iPad and haven’t thought about it since. PCalc is better than anything Apple would have put out anyway

The point is we should not have to.

My coworker the other week spent 3 hours being belittled by her family who said she must have deleted it as there’s no possible way a $1000 “computer” wouldn’t include a calculator app.

Fortunately I remembered and showed her Craig’s statement on video to MKBHD 2 years ago where Craig says Apple hasn’t thought of a new flavor of bubblegum (calculator app that’s just wow) and therefore their customers won’t be getting any bubblegum.

Slightly larger display without increasing overall size will be great!!
Agreed, but I wish they'd go a little bit further. 11" to 11.1", assuming aspect ratio remains the same, is only a 1.83% increase in screen real estate. Nothing to write home about.

I would've loved an ~11.5"-12" iPad Pro, maybe with a 4:3 aspect ratio again, with slightly trimmed (but not non-existent) bezels.

Large iPad to use as a Secondary Monitor to accompany my 16in MBP while on the go or just have in the office when not in use and it’s gotta have that horizontal camera like 10th gen iPad.

As long as the tech allows for long use per day for 7+ years, it is fine. A 16 inch iPad is primarily for the desk just like the 16 inch MBP.

Though I appreciate the newsiness of this……

I’ve come to the point in life where I don’t care about any tech that’s not within 3-4 months of now and I don’t buy tech for the potential functions via an update or lofty promises of "coming soons".

I also don’t fret over changes or alterations or things that didn’t materialise. I will at all times just adapt to what is. Apple wants to remove sumtin sumtin…fine. I have no power to change it anyway. And there is too much fuffed up shhh…in the world and I need my force field powered up for the important hits.

And I loathed Apple removing TouchID… it was fine, completely fine actually. So. Much. Wasted. Energy.

And no, I’m not going boring or too old…..but my tech past is littered with salty tears and carcasses of what was not to be. 😀

14" iPad would have been ideal however 13" is acceptable. My fingers are crossed that they are released in 2023, not 2024.
yeah I really would prefer 14” because the bigger the better! I will settle with 13” though. just excited to finally upgrade my 2018 12.9”.

so many nice updates have happened since I and I really hope the next one includes a redesign / different materials!

It will not get as bright, but you will also not have any of the backlight blooming we see now since OLED is self-emissive (so no backlights).

And depending on the OLED tech, they could hit higher nit levels even if not as high as Mini-LED.
Would OLED able to get over 1000 nits?

I love OLED iPad and Macbook Pro but I would like to see they are increasing the brightness to 1000 nits to get perfect HDR. I am sure some people would prefer higher brightness rather ture black effect. OLED may not a upgrade for them.
