For a company that made the Touch bar which was not very liked as per its lack of actual physical buttons and good haptic feedback, I cannot really see a product such as this working out.great for artists, designers , architects, and a bunch of other people i cant think of
and ofc, anyone who wants a big screen
It's not a thing because these 2 operating systems have completely different user interfaces with little-to-no crossover. There is zero touch on the Mac, and no optimization for it if there were. And iPadOS has a sort of baby keyboard-and-mouse interaction. They also run on very different hardware, even if you don't see it. Just because they have "M something" in the name doesn't mean they run on the same hardware. Why not make it 2 modes? Notebook mode runs MacOS. Tablet mode runs iPad OS? 🤷♂️ how is this not a thing yet?
Just do what Microsoft did with Windows 8 / Windows 8.1. That was such a teriffic and well-received OS 🤣switching between two systems mustn't be that easy i presume . but it's a great idea !

People seem to like actual physical buttons. Perhaps as an iPad where we are already used to using external keyboards or typing on screen, but as a notebook? No. Built in keyboard will continue reigning supreme.
Depending on the aspect ratio, the folded size would be about 12-15 inches, 20 inch unfolded. It’s a great size to carry around and it would be game changing as a drawing/productivity tool on the go or even just as an external portable monitor for the Mac. Lenovo has something like this already with the ThinkPad X1. As long as the crease isn’t noticeable and display is durable enough there aren’t much downsides with this kind of tablet if you want to maximize your screen real estate.I hate to be one of those people who just says "I don't understand this" but I really don't understand this.
I'd quit buying Apple laptops if they got rid of the built in keyboard. Remember how people reacted when they thinned out the keyboard and made it dust sensitive? Imagine no keyboard at all ever again. Yeah, no thanks. As long as they continue to offer laptops as we know them as well, then I don’t care. I’m sure there are many creative ways that such a device could be used, but the lack of a physical keyboard would be a dealbreaker for me.
Why would want to own both a Mac and an iPad? Lots of people do. And don't care at all about how "locked down" you think iPadOS is.Too complicated. Why would one want to go from the much more open MacOS, to locked down iPadOS on the same device?
I hate to break it to you, but "drawing" isn't a product. It's a feature now, one that sits among a list of a hundred features on a device with a flat and large enough display.Depending on the aspect ratio, the folded size would be about 12-15 inches, 20 inch unfolded. Those people need big screens. Not folding devices. And no, the fact that it folds does not suddenly make it more portable, and simultaneously convince these folks to spend a premium on devices this large.
Umm I’m taking about 1 device that depending on how it folds it switches from macOS to iPad OS 🤷♂️. Why own 2 devices when 1 device can do both….It's not a thing because these 2 operating systems have completely different user interfaces with little-to-no crossover. If Apple came out tomorrow and said "You can now run macOS on your iPad Pro", it would suck miserably. Either touch would be enabled which macOS is in no way optimized for, which would suck. Or touch would be disabled and keyboard and mouse would be required (which basically means a Magic KB/Trackpad) and that would suck too since it is a baby accessory compared to a real Mac keyboard and trackpad.
People think they want these things without the slightest thought toward what it would actually be like if it happened.

No, quite simply. Sorry.Your point being? The iPad have many other uses for sure, but a drawing tool is one of the more common ways people use it especially when it comes to the Pro models. I’m sure a lot of artists would appreciate a much larger display on the go.
OK, where is the keyboard and trackpad that is REQUIRED for any kind of high quality macOS input on a device like that?Umm I’m taking about 1 device that depending on how it folds it switches from macOS to iPad OS 🤷♂️. Why own 2 devices when 1 device can do both….
Did you even read the thread? Or any thread about any rumored foldable device? 90% of people are against Apple doing anything in this space.Samsung comes out with foldable devices: "OMG, what crap. it's just a fad and I don't understand why anyone would want that at all."
Apple comes out with foldable devices: "OMG TAKE MY MONEY NOW!!!!"
🤣
