Apple is developing an all-new operating system codenamed "Charismatic," according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman.

This is likely Apple's long-rumored "homeOS" operating system.

In a report this week, Gurman said both Apple's rumored smart home hub in 2026 and tabletop robot in 2027 will run the new operating system. He said the software platform will blend elements of tvOS and watchOS. For example, he expects there to be a hexagonal grid of apps, just like on the Apple Watch.

The platform largely revolves around clock faces and widgets, and it will have multi-user support, Gurman said. Users will primarily interact with it using Siri voice commands, but touch will also be an option, he said. Some of the preinstalled apps from Apple will apparently include Calendar, Camera, Music, Reminders, and Notes.

Here is what he said about multi-user support:
The devices are meant to be easily shared: They include a front-facing camera that can scan users' faces as they walk toward it and then automatically change the layout, features and content to the preferences of that person.
We should learn more about the new operating system over the coming months.

Somebody at MacRumors is having a bad day. This is the second attempt at posting this I've seen. Unless I have developed psychic powers.

Anyway, my thoughts are that this isn't a new operating system. It's a new UI. It'll all still be based on Apple's Darwin/mach kernel (ah, how we used to talk endlessly about that in the olds days). I'm sure Apple will do a great job, though. That's what they do.

I just wish they'd introduce something, stick to it & throw the metaphorical kitchen sink at it.

I want a new home os, I want Apple cameras, I want a Time Machine replacement, I want at least one Apple doorbell, I want lights, I want uwb put in everything so when I ask Siri it's locationally aware, I want things I can't think of that only apple can deliver, I just want a cohesive strategy - cash waiting.

To have HomeKit & nothing or very little in the Apple Store, relying on the matter thing that's rolling out glacially is a dereliction of duties.

Very much overdue. I find AirPlay and HomeKit pretty damn clunky to manage. I just hope the Mac doesn't get shortchanged in all this. Too many features seem to interface primarily with iOS but the Mac gets sloppy seconds in the form of ported iOS apps.
Yet you think another completely different OS family will take care of that clunkiness, instead of adding to it - just amazing.

Still waiting for my iClothOS Pro update! They really have a passion for segmentation

I can potentially see a use case, for people to manage their HomeKit and maybe have a device easier to share.
Hopefully they can keep cost down by having a decent but not too high resolution.

Anyway, my thoughts are that this isn't a new operating system. It's a new UI.
I would imagine there will be a core that is the same, but this device will have specific features to suit its functionality.
It makes sense to have common areas and bolt on the extra specific modules.

I don't envision a broad use case for this. It will be expensive, sit in one place instead of on your arm or in your pocket, and will have the worst voice assistant in the industry.
I imagine for families that maybe don’t want or need an iPad but want a family device this may fit the bill for some tasks.
I see using it to look at recipes whilst cooking and managing the music I’m listening to.
Whilst they may struggle it would seem to be the Amazon devices are what they want to compete with.
