$799 starting price would be great considering the original 2015 12.9” iPad Pro started at the price. Bring it full circle, Apple. Downside, I can see Apple starting it at 64GB of storage. Two steps forward, three steps back.

Can we please just have the Air in 3 sizes and ditch the "mini"? Give us a 9 inch Air, 11 inch Air, and 13 inch Air. And then the Pros in 11 inch, 13 inch, and 15 inch. And then..... the low end one still in 11 (well, 10.9).... the lineup is.... fun.....

Throw in the 3 Apple Pencils, and the lineup is an absolute blast...

When iPad Pros and MacBooks hit M3, then drop M2 in Airs. And keep it 1 behind.

And I guess the lower end on A series.

Man, these lineups and the overlap has gotten really messy the last few years.
The mini is perfect for content consumption (books, videos, etc.).

How about going REALLY big to basically resurrect a modern crack at the old arcade cocktail table format...

And I'm not joking here... a sizable iPad to live on table tops (or packaged like uprights) for digital game playing and other group purposes. Every classic board game could be digitally available, old arcade favorites, new games in Apple Arcade, etc.

It’s good to see Apple recognizing that not everyone who wants a big screen also wants top-of-the-line internals. They now have options for those customers with iPhone and Mac, and it sounds like an iPad option will exist soon too.

I agree. As someone who uses the 12"iPad Pro as a second monitor a lot of the time, a cheaper option would have been very compelling.

Have an old iPad air and would very much like a larger one. I do NOT want facial recognition, fingerprints work better especially if reading in bed where your head angle doesn't work.

The iPad screen's more than adequate so don't really care for the miniled. If the large Air would work with a decent keyboard... everything would be really cool.

They need to kill the iPad with the home button and the Mini.

One iPad.
Two Airs.
Two Pros.

All the Pro accessories should work with the Airs and the iPad gets it own accessories.

Or if they insist on keeping the Mini then make it below the iPad as an entry level model instead of a companion to the Air.

A wonder if an A17 Pro could be used here with a 12.9 "air". Nearly on par with M1.
Simplify to two lines:
A SoCs: air (newer SoCs) and basic iPads (older SoCs)
M SoC line (pro/studio) with varying sizes (OLED, better camera and larger sizes)

Size of display should never be a differentiator.

You can have our iPad minis when you pry them from our cold, dead hands.

Mini lovers would gather their pitchforks.
Really annoying when people want to "ditch" a product just because THEY don't find it useful.

Apple is working on a larger iPad Air featuring a 12.9-inch display, in what would be the biggest iPad Air model to date, DigiTimes reports.

iPad-Air-12.9-Inch-Feature.jpg

Citing industry sources, DigiTimes highlighted that unlike the 12.9-inch iPad Pro, the 12.9-inch iPad Air will not feature a mini-LED display. The device will instead feature the same LCD technology used in the current, 10.9-inch iPad Air. The information was shared in DigiTimes' "Before Going to Press" section, so while information about the new device is currently limited, more will follow tomorrow.

The iPad Air has only ever been available in a single size, so presumably a 12.9-inch iPad Air would be offered in addition to a separate model with a smaller screen, just like how the iPad Pro is offered in both 11- and 12.9-inch variants. A recent rumor from 9to5Mac claimed that Apple was working on two sixth-generation iPad Air models. While the piece speculated that Apple could release a larger version of the ‌iPad Air‌ to go along with the current 10.9-inch version, DigiTimes' report is the first specific mention of a larger iPad Air variant.

Together, the rumors suggest that the 12.9-inch iPad Air could arrive sooner rather than later in the sixth incarnation of the device. The current iPad Air featuring the M1 chip launched over a year and a half ago, and a new model with the M2 chip is widely expected to launch in the coming months.

The current, 10.9-inch iPad Air is priced starting at $599, while the 11-inch iPad Pro starts at $799. A 12.9-inch iPad Air model would presumably be priced between these two products, but it is worth bearing in mind that Apple's next-generation iPad Pro models are rumored to see price hikes owing to their costly OLED display technology.

So 12.9" iPad of 13" Macbook Air M2 give me the one with a real OS and ports to do real work. My iPad Pro became a door stop once I got my Macbook Air M2.

I think Apple has been reading my mind. I use an iPad for chord sheets/lyrics when playing guitar and it’s getting a little harder to see with my aging eyes. Was looking at the bigger screen of the Pro to make things easier to read, but I don’t really need all that power.

So more options to buy from? Wouldn’t it get a little confusing? It’s either they drop the base iPad and make the iPad Air standard, or viceversa. Or, even better, only Air and Pro, which come in three sizes each, and an iPad SE with the rumoured plastic…
customers need more variety, not specs like storage updated to the year 2023. 128 GB are enough for everybody

Given how grossly over-priced the current Air is I question how many of such customers exist. Although of course if Apple were to hike the price of the Pro they could bring in the air at say £50 cheaper than the current Pro and Mac Rumors could use their usual powers of spin to proclaim how "affordable" it was...

How is the current Ipad Air over priced?

My only question...is why? 13 inch is already absurdly huge for a tablet. Why would you go bigger especially when the price of said iPad will probably exceed the 15 inch Macbook Air?
Because Tim is a college grad, not an entrepreneur/critical thinker. He’s taking a page out of other MBA’s like John Sculley, Michael Spindler, and Gil Amelio and throwing more products into the marketplace because the excel spreadsheet said Apple can make a few million dollars more; customer confusion and product line getting messy be damned.

For my use I really don't get the point of the larger iPad. It gets to a certain size that is no longer easily usable in the hands. I guess it is more for those who want to dock it or use it as a device to draw on. I tried out a 12.9" for a while and found it to be way less useful on its own than the 11", and way less of a computer when docked than a MBA for about the same price as them combined. Maybe this is trying to solve it by significantly bring down the price of a larger iPad...
