It seems like you need 120Hz minimum and 32" to be competitive. You can get a 32" 21:9 or 35" ultra wide for under $400 that has 120Hz or more. Apple is digging in their heals on refresh too... they know most people will buy it regardless so why spend the money and decrease profit margin.

Would like it to Daisy chain thunderbolt connections on multiple monitors to save a port on my Mac mini.

they've adopted TB5 very early, which makes me speculate launch of that is quite soon (my bet would be along M4 Mac Studio mid-year)

Please let me use it to connect to my work PC laptop as well. I need a multipurpose display.

Shop around. Apple is barely in the monitor business. If you think consumer vs. pro, their entire line of consumer computer monitors amounts to ONE. Others are deeply into it with many models... all shapes, all sizes, generally value priced because many competitors aren't looking for nearly 50% target margin. Plenty of fish in this sea. At least cast some lines in the water and see for yourself.

While at the same time, Apple is the only game in town with top notch build quality. Everyone else is doing injection molded plastic, die pressed or extruded tubing.

So Ross Young got it wrong? Interesting as he specialise in Display Panel.

Just goes to show how bad and behind the ASD is. Ironically Samsung and LG are coming out with 27inch 5k Oled displays with 220ppi. If they wont make it Oled, at least make it Q-Dot mini led like the new MacBook pros.

It’s a shame all the competitors have ever increasingly great spec’d displays in shrudely pathetic enclosures on wobbly crap stands.

We could just keep that simpler and say that Apple is the only one with an Apple logo on their monitor. Rationalizing the one Apple consumer monitor is no problem around here. But OP wanted another video input.

Why this 27-inch format again...
Can't they do maybe a 21:9 ultrawide or something a bit different or at least bigger?
I’d rather have 16:10 aspect ratio, or taller. Room for the dock and menu bar while working on 16:9 content, and more vertical space for programming.

Taller displays feel more… luxurious somehow. Maybe because I’m used to apple using 16:10 and taller on macbooks vs the cheaper windows laptops that mostly use 16:9 and feel cramped even when they’re 15-16”

Ming-Chi Kuo and Ross Young have been predicting an Apple mini-LED display for at least half a decade. MCK started it with it being part of an Intel iMac Pro refresh just before the launch of Apple Silicon and Ross has been suggesting it every year since 2022.

Around 2022-2023 LG were reported to have been working on two ProMotion miniLED displays - a 32" 6K and 27" 5K - alongside a 24" 4.5K display using the iMac's panel, but no follow-on rumors ever appeared.
