If it has a better display in the same design with a better than potato webcam, then it will be awesome! Also a removable power cable would be nice too.
Amen to all of this!

I own a Studio Display and love it, but my biggest gripe with it isn't the 60Hz, or lack of HDR/deep blacks — it's the dirty screen effect. People never seem to comment on that on here, but imo it's its biggest flaw. All the models that I saw in the Apple Store (and other shops) had it, as did the XDR models I looked at. I really hope they can fix this with the new panel, will be such a shame if it continues on.

Don't think they need to change the enclosure at all, it's built like a tank and feels incredibly premium. The bezels don't bother me.

Apple is working on a 27-inch mini-LED display that could come as soon as late 2025, display analyst Ross Young said today. The display could be a new version of the Studio Display that Apple first introduced in 2022. The current version of the Studio Display uses a 5K LED panel, so a mini-LED version would be a significant update
Since a lot of have already mini-led screens for MBPs it won’t benefit a lot of Mac users to replace the current ASD but people that are new or old setups.

Coming from a 27" iMac, I'm currently looking for a new monitor for my new Mac Mini. And I'd really like to purchase an ASD regardless of the price, but I'm pretty sure that just as the current model doesn't have the features I need, neither the future one will.

And they're not miniLED, OLED, ProMotion or other fancy stuff. I'd settle for crazy unrealistic things like:

- Adjustable height (I'm not even asking for it to pivot).
- More than one input (Ideally one more USB-C and one HDMI, one can dream)
- Some way to adjust brightness and volume when not using a Mac.

I love the looks of the ASD, I know the speakers are great and I can live with a so-so webcam and the 60Hz refresh rate. But I just can't purchase a monitor that ONLY works properly with a Mac, has just one USB-C video input and doesn't have even simple height adjustment. Even less for the asking price. And it's a pity, because I'd really pay the asking price.

There's really very little to choose from apart from the ASD if you want high pixel density and 27 or 32" sizes, at the DPI MacOS likes (i.e. don't have a performance penalty for rescaling). And I'm finding it extremely frustrating to find a monitor that checks all the boxes, so I find it even more frustrating that I can't just buy an expensive Apple display and be done with it.
Studio display does 2 out of three. Unfortunately, there is no way to change the brightness without a keyboard.

There are three UBC Ports running quickly if you have at least an M1 Mac or better.

Hell, if you hooked up a Macbook Pro, you'd have 3 USB TB 4/5, 3 USCB C (I think 10 gb speeds) an HDMI and SD card reader.

What additional connectivity do you need? Assuming you use one TB port on the Mac, that gives you 5 other ports, HDMI and an SD card slot reader.

That 27” 4K monitor might be good for everything else, but will be really bad with a Mac.

Do yourself a favor, and get something 5K that's compatible with everything you have. Personally, I would pay twice as much for something from Apple, but for your needs, the new Asus 5K 27" monitor might be the best option.
How would a gaming console such as the PlayStation 5 look on a 5K panel such as the new Asus one? Would it look as sharp as on a native 4K monitor?

if you really wanna know then simply enable low power mode on your iphone and try using that for anything for couple minutes
I feel like ProMotion is so much more important on the phone than on a monitor — my eyes bleed with low power mode on on the iPhone, but 60Hz on the ASD doesn't bother me at all.

[...]

Young says that the display will use mini-LEDs from Epistar, while LG Display will supply the panels.

These are *LCD* panels with LED or mini-LED backlighting. I don't understand why every single blog article about mini-LED backlit displays seems to be confused by this.

The main issue I have with 27" is that it's a small display in todays world. Now thats ok typically because if you need more screen estate adding monitors can be an option for some workflows but doing this with Apple displays is just insane on the pricing. If they can't get the price down reasonable level you really need a bigger display option like 32" because who the heck is buying mutiple displays at these prices with redundant things you don't need since the Studio Displays are basically a mini iMac computer....with iPhone SOC, storage, 6 speakers. 12 mp web cam, 64 gb storage. Add on Apple tax and got a $1600 display for 27". Now you want to have 2-3 of them? Well you are paying for all of that redundantly.

3 Studio Displays at MSRP will run you close to 5 grand or over with tax in some cases. Thats just insanity to pay for a few 27" monitors and it's why something like 99% of the setups you see out there for owners are almost always 1 Studio Display and sometimes you see two.....and then you get the ultra rare 3 setup yet Apple marketing shows off 2-3 monitor setups quite often.

Jokes aside, I actually tried.

I bought 2 Apple Studio Displays.

I returned them for a list of reasons that's not relevant here, but one of the reasons being : Two displays is just not ergonomical. After a few hours, my neck started to hurt already, when I never had this problem in my life before.

I know the way, I need to put one straight ahead in front of me, one on the side, but then not only my desk wasn't symmetrical anymore, my neck would hurt on one side 😅

I kept them for two weeks. The day I returned them, my neck problems were fixed.
I think the asymmetry would bug me more than the neck pain, lol

I really hope we don’t have to wait until the end 2025. It’s very frustrating how slow they are to update desktop pro devices.

A lower-priced Studio Display would be nice.

Mac mini = $499.00 (Education price)
Studio Display = $1,499.00 (Education price) ???

😂
Apple really need a cheaper display option to pair with the Mac Mini. It can’t be that difficult, they could use the same display that’s in the iMac.

No, it'd upscale 4K to 5K in most cases. Also, some games run in lower resolutions than 4K and are already upscaled to 4K.

Why is everyone always going crazy over this 120 Hz thing? Unless you are gaming, what's the difference?

Absolutely and spot-on. For photographers who are fussy about color and edit/process loads of image files, 120 Hz is really a mice nuts thing. It *could* be important for gamers, though.

What Apple's ASD offers with stable display profiles is far more important. I've had my ASD for around two years. Once set up (without needing a color calibrator, btw), every print I make matches what I see on the display, saving time and $$$ not wasting paper and expensive ink.

With respect to displays, apparently not having 120 Hz has become the go-to thing to be unhappy about.

This is great news! An update to the affordable 5K Apple monitor with the best possible image quality.
(I don't consider the 32" 6K affordable, and even if that one gets updated, it'll probably go up in price.)
Affordable?!?!?! They jack you up for that monitor then bend you over if you want basic stand options like up and down! And all that after reaming you on minor upgrades to ram and internal storage if you bought a computer with it. Have a look around at comparison pricing in the marketplace and you’ll quickly realize why you are walking so funny and why it’s so painful to sit down in front of your new rig.

I bought a 24” LCD 98%sRGB 60hz Dell screen in 2005 1000€ still using it (a bit yellowisg but whith proper hardware calibration still competitive) an amazing purchase. 1920x1200 best aspect ratio ever.
a 2025 screen replacement must have at least, double features!!!

Its been 20 years already and only better feature to offer is double the resolution…

While at the same time, Apple is the only game in town with top notch build quality. Everyone else is doing injection molded plastic, die pressed or extruded tubing.
They are also the only game in town that can't seem to figure out how to include both VESA mounting and a height-adjustable stand in the same box. But the aluminum case sure is pretty.

When you've tried a ProMotion display, which is fancy word for "120 Hz", and you're used to scrolling using 120 Hz, I promise you, you won't want to go back.

Plus, it became actually quite easy to design and produce. A lot of companies even support 240 Hz already. In fact at CES 2025, a company was going for like 750 Hz, which IMO is useless. But 120 Hz is a must.
I have an M3 16 in Pro. I have ProMotion on it, obviously, and I game on a TV w/ HDMI 2.1 with a 120 hz rate.

I currently use a Pro Display XDR and a studio Display.

When go from those to my 16 inch, I do notice, but I quickly forget it, unless I am flying between windows and applications.

I guess I am saying on a large screen with simple use, like word documents, I don't see that much of a difference, but I am considering getting a high refresh rate monitor, because it really is nice for gaming and I would like general computer usage to give me a similar effect, but my windows are stagnant for the most part, so there's not a lot of motion to smooth out with extra frames.

Presently, I have Retina literally everywhere and that is hard to give up unless a 120 hz monitor is really noticeable for general computer use and that just hasn't been my experience.

Why does it take Apple YEARS to develop & update displays, where the competition can do it so much more often, including new features as they become required. It's not like Apple manufactures anything itself, its just outsourced panel production and the whole thing itself is too.
