Apple may soon release new versions of the Magic Mouse, Magic Keyboard, and Magic Trackpad, according to code found in the iOS 18.1 release candidate by MacRumors contributor Aaron Perris.

There are references to a new Magic Mouse 2, Magic Trackpad 2, and several Magic Keyboards, which would include versions with Touch ID and number pads, as well as models without.

While there is no information in iOS 18.1 about what to expect for these devices, we are expecting them to be refreshed with USB-C ports. Apple has been updating all of its devices to replace Lightning with USB-C, and all of those accessories currently use Lightning for recharging purposes. Apple could also move the port location on the Magic Mouse, as the Lightning port located on the bottom of the device has long been a subject of ridicule.

We'll likely see Apple introduce the new Magic Mouse, Magic Trackpad, and Magic Keyboard alongside new M4 Mac models. Rumors suggest that Apple plans to release M4 versions of the MacBook Pro, Mac mini, and iMac at some point in October.

I have an apple Vision Pro. I would love to be able to leave my laptop at home and I travel.

What I want is a small lightweight magic keyboard that has a trackpad built-in. I don’t
something with a separate numerical keypad that just makes it unnecessarily large

Imagine being able to use something like that on the airplane.!!

All of these devices should pair with more than one other devices, especially at their price points (Apple's always been a ripoff). Logitech MX Keys keyboard lets u pair between 3 different devices and switch between all with ONE keystroke (F1, F2 and F3).... tbh, that's the better keyboard anyway so nobody should be buying Apple's own keyboard.

And it needs to be back lit so that my Vision Pro has a bit more lighting to pick up my hands as I type

Magic Mouse with charge port on the bottom made sense (before wireless charging). I don't know why people complained about it.

It's like people complaining about not having a physical keyboard on an iPhone when it came out. Clearly, the designers know better.

I bet $100 that this will happen:

  • New Magic Mouse: everything the same, still charge from the bottom, USB-C instead of lightning
  • New Magic Keyboard: everything the same, USB-C instead of lightning
  • New Magic Trackpad: everything the same, USB-C instead of lightning
What do I care about my assumptions? I think it’s fine. I charge my Magic Mouse like once every two months, I couldn’t care less since charging takes like an hour.
