Taking bets on how long before Samsung comes out with their own car?

Samsung CEO: I just heard Apple is working on a car, let's get it out before Apple does and we'll say Apple copied us!

Wasn't there an article just days ago, about about how Tesla has managed to hire away hundreds of Apple employees while Apple hasn't been able to make even a dent in the opposite direction? And now suddenly, Tesla employees want to jump ship?

Not buying it. I doubt an employee who really wants to stick with Apple and has any actual knowledge of the situation would risk losing their job by sending an unsolicited e-mail.

Somewhere, someone is BSing, and I have my doubts that it's Elon Musk.

Could it not be battery technology?

Somebody is using their noodle. This is the only place where the businesses of the two companies currently overlap, even a little.

It should also be said that a leaker within Apple is so rare as to be unheard of. Anyone who doesn't think the appearance of this leak is just a little suspect, go straight to the back of the class.

How about an actual working %#^$^ Apple TV interface, for one thing, and a Yosemite release that doesn't blank out my thunderbolt display on a random basis.

Getting Apple back to producing stable hardware & software would be groundbreaking at this point.

Yep. Of course people leak (see Mark Gurman) but they never out themselves as Apple employees.

First of all, it's still more stable than Android/Windows software/hardware, so let's not get your panties bunched up.

Who says Apple can't work on a new product AND fix any existing issues at the same time. Guess what, Google works on tons on stuff even though they have lots of issues with android/Google Plus, etc.

As an engineer I can say I would rather work for a visionary like Musk than a beancounter like Cook.

as an engineer i can say id rather work for whoever is doing the coolest ****, but i know i wont be having tea w/ the CEO. and apple is near the top of that list.

Said it before and I'll say it again: Apple should buy Tesla and dominate the future of the automotive industry.

Or, just some sort of integration to cars that makes it aware of its surroundings... A super version of the current carplay system.

Like the chromecast to TVs, instead of actually building google branded TVs

I didn't know Tesla was available for sale.

Any company is available for sale to the right buyer at the right price. Apple could afford it. They're poaching all of Tesla's employee's already... might as well buy the cow.

ios 9 is basically going to be to fix the software and someone things they are going to innovate? They can barely fix all the problems they have at a reasonable pace.

I think we got a leak from a future ex-Apple employee.

Or possibly we got a leak from someone posing as an Apple employee.

I do not think that Apple intentionally leaked something as obscure as this reference. For what point? To juice their already record stock price? To increase their unsolicited job application rate? If they want to poach from Tesla's battery division, they can just call the folks up directly and tell them, "We are working on battery tech and we believe we are doing it better, do you want to join?"

Also, everyone is working on battery technology. It is just super important for modern life. It is also super important to get off coal and oil dependence and shift to solar. Apple's R&D is impressive, but I don't know if they can plow this field in any particular novel way.

It is simple to suspect that someone talked who shouldn't have talked. It is far harder to imagine a cleverly crafted information dissemination plan (okayed at the highest levels of Apple's management) that hinged on a short email on a completely new subject.

A lot of people keep complaining since the last few iOS and OS X versions and new Mac models. Some people are staying with older versions of software, etc.

Just because the competition sucks doesn't mean Apple are allowed to lower the quality of their own products.

I'm confused. I thought Tesla was poaching Apple employees and Apple was struggling to get them back. At least that was the rumor last week.

Anyway I don't see any evidence that Elon Musk wants to sell Tesla. And I'm not sure why Apple would want to get into the automobile manufacturing business. It's a highly regulated industry and one that Apple knows little about.

Now that you say that, I think we all missed the second field which overlap both Tesla and Apple. The first one is battery technology and the second one is green energy.

I find it highly suspect that an Apple employee would leak to a publication like Business Insider. And admit they are an employee. Unless of course they're looking to be fired.
