It's one of those things you don't realise or appreciate until you get it, then you get so used to the new status quo that you can't go back to anything worse.

And yet, when I'm holding my wife's 6S I think "Whoaaa slippery bitch (no, not you, my wife...)! Can't properly hold you with one hand!" And then just second later I say to myself: "Yeah **** it! I'm sticking with my 5S which has the perfect weight/size balance."

Legit question, when is the last time any of you whipped an iphone out of your pocket and thought "my what a beautiful thing you are, if only you were thinner!".

Slimming down components is one thing, let's make room for more battery! But when the discussion veers off into design and experience compromises for the sake of thinness... something seems wrong.

Zero sense.

Thinner display = more room for battery in the same case.

Duh

Apple needs to hurry up and create a 4k Cinema display. It's pretty embarrassing that their stand-alone Thunderbolt display is thicker than the new iMac but has half the resolution. Come'on now people!

It might be their plan to sell more retina iMacs. If that's the case, I just became a sucker last week. (Beautiful display … if only it was 30" like what it replaced.)

I fully expect my iPhone 10 to be a hologram. "Hey Siri" and up she pops in all her lusciousness. :)

Some here however will still complain she's too fat or her boobs are too small.
Ya know...I want that to be the future of phones. Or tv's. Or SOMETHING. The tech industry has worked so hard in turning our dreams of cool stuff from scifi movies into reality. What's more futuristic and cool than freaking holograms? That's right...nothing

Nah, they gotta push the new battery covers ;)

Let's hope the next iPhone actually Improves battery life.

Newer iPhone models always have improved battery life.

People just need to stop living in an Android world where more mAh = more battery life.

Cars have improved autonomy now, and they didn't need bigger gas tanks.

if you can't live with modern smartphone battery life then you need to stop staring at a screen all day and get out some more...8 hours every day on your phone????

here's a suggestion: try TALKING to actual people

Answer to battery complaints: "you're using it wrong"

Improved battery life, that is used to power the new components to give you the exact same battery life as the previous model is not an improvement to the customer.

I got no improvement from going from an iPhone 6 Plus to a 6S plus.

What your saying is iPhone battery life remains the same while the devices get smaller. We want the battery life to go up! And that means not shrinking the battery each year and making the device efficient to use less battery

OLED is the way to go,samsungs latest AMOLED used in Note 5 is the absolute best display in the world,no questions.
after using that, anything else looks instantly inferior and washed out with poor blacks.

Poor blacks? The pixels are off on AMOLED displays in order to display black. You can't get any blacker than off.

And thinness has no direct correlation to usability. It doesn't make one-handed use any easier. The MacRumors groupthink is strong on this.

What a bunch of nonsense. There is definitely an optimal size for any device but it differs on a personal level. I had iPhones since 3G and each iteration it became better suited to my personal preferences. The difference between the 5 and 6 is huge and makes a big difference in a pants pocket or in any of my suit pockets.

The use case for one handed use is as much determined by the thickness, as the shape of the edges and the width of the device. Claiming that there is macrumors groupthink around this is a ridiculous statement, that completely ignores any actual logic thought about this matter.

If I can use my watch/phone/tablet/laptop for a full day, then I don't care about battery until it's so much better that I can use it for like a week without charging. Since that isn't going to happen any time soon, I say make the thinnest device you can (if that is the most usable). My concern is that very thin devices may not actually be more ergonomic than ones that have more bulk.

So, we'll see a mix OLED and TFT-LCD?

It's like asking do u want strawberry or vanilla flavored ice-cream..

Not really fussed, for me anyway, about OLED and increasing battery in iOS, as i use my phone very little anyway, at most it stays in stand-by and lasts a full week almost.... why would i want more ?

(no... actually if the watch got thinner, everyone will follow, then we'll all start seeing bend tests on Youtube for it)

Its pretty hard to hide a building & keep it a "secret location"

Burn in and change over time. It's still a thing. It's still a problem no one has solved.

I still have that Galaxy S6 and on it's own it looks bright and colours are fine ignoring the saturation. But now when i have 6S Plus i compared them both and Galaxy S6 is nowhere near as bright and colours look really retarded compared to iPhone.

It almost looks like OLED screen got darker in those 4 months i had it.

Where are your tests?

There are improvements.

Not much, admittedly, but I was referring to whole model upgrades (e.g. 5 to 6)

What good is a thinner phone when you then have to slap on a big hump on it to have a battery that lasts more than a few hours? How stupid do they think people are?

That's the rumor though, Apple's device have been pretty close to the same thickness for a while there. Also, because of the camera, there is a limit to how thin you can make it, which seems to be forgotten by all those "apple wants to makes things thinner" rumors. With 12MP, they can't really make it thinner without either making a wedge like phone, or a bigger bump.

It lasts longer than all batteries before (or most of the competition) and even longer than the LG twits ads that commented on the bump; so, basically, don't know what the hell you're talking about.

I get about one and a half days out of my 6s which is is more than adequate for my needs and fantastic given it's size, although more life is always welcome.

I do believe that efficiency is key though. Smaller, lighter, more powerful is the way forward as it makes way for new devices and technologies that couldn't have been made had they just slapped a bigger battery on all along.
