For the love of all that is holy - please no more new connectors. Just stick with USB-C for a while.

By the way... Here's an irony I've noticed recently. If you just bought the new Macbook Pro or the Retina Macbook consider that you will be able to plug into it just about any modern Android phone, because they use the USB-C connection, but you will not be able to plug into it your new iPhone 7.

Let that sink in... This is why Apple is losing me recently. Stop inventing new ways to sell dongles and focus on new iMacs, Mac Pros, Mini and do something about the decade old MBA.

not another ****ing connector

Better believe it rather than adopt USB-C on its mobile devices or have the USB IF create a micro USB-C connector, Apple will have "another" option for its mobile devices so it can benefit from licensing costs. Whiles the consumer and market has to decide to either sell separate products with USB-C, Apple new port or both, thus increasing cost to the consumer.

I'm sure most people will go nuts about this, but i'm all for a tiny charging connector as long as micro-USB and mini-USB both die, they along with USB-A are the worst three connectors ever designed.

(Although Scart was horrendous)

Idk HDMI is a pretty ****** connector, USB-A is easily better than HDMI.

USB-C please. Apple are a bunch of stuck up morons.

Rather than collaborate with USB IF and make the consumers life easier, Apple just decides to create a new connector type and then makes money of the licensing fees.

Right, but to get the USB-C port in the iDevices would mean a stop on making things thinner, and we know Johnny doesn't like things not getting thinner for no reason.

WTF another proprietary connector? I FINALLY have a decent amount of Lightening cables, all going into the trash bin again?

I think you'll find that USB-C is not better.

Yeah ok, you stick with USB-A then mate. I'd have swapped to USB-C 15 years ago if it were available, best computer opportunity I've had, can't wait for the iMac to go that way too.

Yeah, let's ditch a connector everyone uses for one that nobody except Apple does!

Wireless charging would make Apple no money.

Apple just increases the cost on any new released product, their did it with the iPhone and MBPro, what next. Classic case of finding a solution to a problem that does not exist or a solution already exists. Just work with the USB IF and make the consumers and manufacturers life of products easier.

Apple is working on a new "Ultra Accessory Connector" that would be built into headphones and headsets certified under its Made for iPhone licensing program.

The connector, introduced as part of a developer preview as shared by 9to5Mac, features 8 pins and measures 2.05mm by 4.85mm, thinner and smaller than existing Lightning and USB-C ports. It is said to be similar in shape and size to ultra mini USB connectors that are available in some accessories.

The UAC is smaller than USB-C or Lightning, both pictured
According to Apple's Made for iPhone specifications for the Ultra Accessory Connector (UAC), it's designed to be used with headphone cables. Accessory manufacturers will be able to develop Lightning to UAC, USB-A to UAC, and 3.5mm jack to UAC cables, connecting to a UAC port built into an accessory for charging and audio purposes.

Such a port could perhaps be built into products like Beats headphones, which currently use micro-USB for charging purposes, and it could save internal space manufacturers could use for other components.

Why Apple has developed a new port rather than encouraging manufacturers to adopt USB-C or Lightning is unknown (there are already MFi specifications for Lightning ports), and it is also unclear if Apple will allow accessories beyond headphones to use the new Ultra Accessory Connector in the future.

I find this a bit odd, but I'll wait to hear the motivation behind it before condemning it. I can't see an advantage over lightning here, and I don't know why headphones need 8 pins. Part of the story isn't being told, and the inflammatory bit is leading because the trolls love to click and scream.

Tim Cook makes me miss Steve Jobs more.
I think you mean it makes you miss imaginary Steve Jobs.

Jobs was was responsible for the non-standard 30 pin, and for Lightning. Why do you think he wouldn't have supported this?

But I don't really care who uses it as long as I do.

I'd just very much like to see mini and micro USB die - at least move to USB-C i'm sick of it coming on all cheap chinese devices and games controllers, remotes etc. Horrible horrible connectors.

Stupidest BS of 2017 I've heard so far.

I thought having one connector was part of the whole hype of USB C. Even keeping lightning around doesn't make any sense at this point.

Don't worry micro USB-C soon to follow. Just wait and see, maybe nano USB-C connector. Gots to make that MBPro thinner.
