Ah damn, I thought something more like YouTube (Apple Video?).

But c'mon, iMessage in iOS 10 is ridiculous and glittery enough.

Apple have sucked at social media.. two failures, a third coming.

There has to be compelling reason to use this over existing solutions, otherwise there's no point.

Apple being apple they will limit it to the apple platform. If they do not go multi platform it is a waist of time and effort. How often do I use iMessage nowadays? It is all whatapp for 75% of people are not on Apple. And of the 25% a large portion just uses whatapp for it can reach the other 75%.

So I'm not sure if I understand the logic.

Apple is trying to increase revenue...by neglecting things that make them huge money (iPhone, iPad, App store, and Macs, for developers) and investing in stuff they have no clue about, against competitors who have been doing it for years. Good one Tim.
Pretty much yeah. WHY THOUGH? WHY ARE THEY DOING THIS?

Okay, my first thought, as others have had is Apple's "Ping" endeavor. Not successful at all and Apple should stick to their core business and focus on mobile devices and computers more.

Apple.... Haven't we learned anything yet from Ping and Apple Music Connect???

Leave social to the pros. Focus on updating the Macs.

Apple has failed to get traction on every social networking thing it's done, as far as I remember, even Connect within its otherwise successful Music app. You could argue that in its heyday the iPod campaign turned music itself into a social medium, but that doesn't count.

I really wonder what makes Apple think entering this crowded space with yet another video sharing app will lead to success. Some innovative angle we haven't thought of? Let us pray...

To help bolster its features, Apple is using the same team that created Final Cut Pro and iMovie to develop the social network.

I think a much better use of that talent would be to create an iOS version of Final Cut Pro.

That's one of many things missing from iOS that really keeps it from being capable of completely replacing computers.

As if the market isn't already crowded enough. I think Apple may be a little too late to this party.
Yeah. And if they were to enter it, they'd need to create a whole new hook to lure people in...and let's face it that won't happen with Apple in this arena. They are having trouble maintaining unique-ness in areas they once pioneered in. I sort of agree with those saying buy an existing successful one, but it seems unnecessary in the big picture.

Apple is doing something no company has ever done before. It's an app dedicated to sending short videos, quickly, to your friends. This type of social media company does NOT exist yet. This is a huge gap in the social media world and we need a new platform to fill this void.

Maybe people do but I certainly don't so I wouldn't think it was that popular but maybe I am wrong. We have two macs, three ipads and two iphones in my house and it is disabled on all of them. Nothing I hate more than devices that use up bandwidth on my internet connection in the background and I wonder why my internet seems to be working slowly all the sudden. Also I am too cheap to pay apple for more icloud storage

I'm talking about shared photo streams used to share photos and videos with others on iOS & Mac, through the Photos app.

I'm OK with this, but their best shot at remaining relevant with younger people through software is Apple Music. Make it better, make it better, make it better. The iOS 10 version is much improved but it can still be better. The $4.99 student price was key (I'd consider doing $3.99 to one-up Spotify, even if it yields losses - the additional customer base should be worth it). Music transcends technology like no other service ever will.

Honestly Apple needs to stop is creepy obsession with SnapChat.

I think that app was made originally for sending nudes, and is now better than any other company at making people share their memories, experience, videos, etc. I know a lot of people don't use Snapchat but it really is now a decent little social media app that makes sharing seem casual and easy.

I didn't mind Apple trying to rip on it in iOS 10 Messages (trying to liven up the app a bit) but this is getting ridiculous.
