not to mention being able to buy kindle books from my kindle app.. preventing this has always been one of apple's scummiest moves.
this is your exact message its not Apple fault its Amazon's choice, the same choice that they applied to Android, so i see no change what so ever happening.

If Apple didn’t charge 30% (or even 15%) I suspect Amazon would allow. I would have to research but I remember a lot of angst and discussion back and forth on Kindle 30% and iBooks nada.
I suspect Porsche would sell a lot more cars if they didn’t cost any money.

Actually that's a good idea. Amazon should sell the books for nothing then they won't need to pay any commission.

ridiculous analogy.. we all know the reason is that apple is greedy and trying to prop up their crappy little book store..

I buy all of my games used from Ebay... so they don't get diddly from me.

Weird flex... but ok... ;)

What about everyone else who buys XBox or Playstation games from GameStop, Walmart, Target, or literally any other store?

I was asking if the platform companies, Sony and Microsoft, get a commission fee.

But you didn't address that question at all.

Maybe someone else here can help me. Thank you for your time.

you said "we" so I thought you meant you and me... I just answered for me. :D

and how is that weird? saving loads of $$ is fun.

Ah... I see. Sorry for my poorly-worded question earlier.

Lemme try my question again:

Do Microsoft and Sony get paid a commission fee when people buy new games from retail stores such as GameStop, Walmart, Target, or any other store?

I'm simply looking for a YES or NO answer to the question in bold above. 👆

Anyone is free to reply. Thanks in advance.

I am pretty sure these companies still earn a cut even on physical copies of games sold? It’s not like anybody can just 3D-print a few Nintendo switch cartridges in their basement and sell it on Amazon and expect to keep 100% of earnings.

If I understand the convoluted landscape it is a licensing fee. Games can be resold on those platforms.
Not sure how that would work with Apple.

ARe these gaming platforms considered gatekeepers?

For Apple's App Store, if you want to, you can also log in to the Store with your account that bought the app, install it in which ever device you want, and log out. Apple will get nothing from you, and neither will the app's developer. And guess what, there's no need to physically travel to any store.

These are all different business model.

If you are so against Apple's business model, makes me wonder why you are still using? Apple's devices.

I don't have a problem with their devices or the services they sell like storage, Music, etc. (other than thinking Arcade, News, and AppleTV are garbage that is..)

They don't get anything from used eBay sales..

Which is kinda a misdirect here, since there isn’t any way to distribute hard copies of iOS apps, nor are licenses of digital switch games transferable, nor are all console games available in this manner.
