You and me both... This feature while a great addition, is already available on both Android and WP7/WP8. I hope this won't be another catch up year where they announce things as 'revolutionary' even though other platforms have had them for quite some time already. ;-(

1.) Larger phone - Check
2.) Better maps - Check
3.) Apps that can actually blood talk to each other (rumored but I hope it's a check).
4.) Offline Siri/voice recognition/dictation - Check
5.) Song recognition built in - Check
6.) Heatlhbook - Check

All above are so far at least rumored in some way and all have already been on both competitors platforms in some form or another for a while... I'm hoping Apple will surprise us all and have something totally unique and thought through. No on expected the look and feel of iOS 7 as they kept it super secret and I hope that is what's going on here... The leaked stuff is just a little taste but they have something completely surprising for us.

Mostly everything that can be added to the smartphone has been done in the last 7 years.... At this point it's just refining features and improving the experience.

Yes! If this actually happens it would be awesome. I use Shazam a lot for songs on the radio or when my co-workers play songs that I like. I always Shazam them so I can keep a list of songs I either didn't know the name or like and don't want to forget. I usually end up buying the songs off iTunes eventually so I can see this being a huge plus for Apple!

I would love this.

Sometimes by the time I unlock my phone, and load up Shazam, it's too late to tag.

It's even more difficult when driving and I hear a song I like on the radio.

Shazam is one of my most used apps on my iPhone. So iOS integration would be awesome where I don't have to:
1) Slide to unlock the phone,
2) type in my passcode,
3) click the home button to get to my home screen if I'm not already there,
4) locate the Shazam app on my home screen,
5) tap the app to open it,
6) tap the Shazam button in the app to find out what a song is.

And while sometimes, the song is already done by that point

This happens to other people too?! I HATE when this happens!!!

Oh yeah, I used Shazam when it was still 100% free on my iPhone 2G. I ended up getting SoundHound ∞ free in a promo and have used it ever since.

I love the music tagging feature in Windows Phone's assistant. It's going to be great having that in iOS 8. I tag songs all the time when I'm sitting in the car listening to the local radio.

Please, Apple?

This would be awesome only if it would identify songs that are playing from the iphone's loudspeaker. SO often i'm listening to long mixes on Soundcloud and there is no tracklist!

I don’t know how many people know, or have tried it, but Shazam will ID all sorts of audio content. I Shazam’ed a couple of TV shows, and it correctly identified them. Of course, there’s less (if any...) issues ID’ing a TV show you’re watching, but still pretty slick.

Windows Phone also JUST got a system wide rotation lock and separate volume for media and ringer....

Edit: and apparently thats just a developer preview not a consumer release.

But Windows phone is only little over 3 years...iOS is over 6 years and it is still, playing catching up for lots of things....

Where is the Siri third party API? Where is the swippy keyboard that people love? Where is file browser?

Darn. I really wish they would concentrate on fixing iTunes Match first, before introducing another broken song recognition feature.
SoundHound (an app similar to Shazam) works pretty good, even in less than ideal conditions. Plus, iTunes Match is only available in a few selected countries while SoundHound works everywhere.

This would be a nice acquisition/partnership. If only Shazam could pick up music in really loud crowds!

Shazam's biggest failing - that and it's 'news' feature. Soundhound does a better job of filtering out ambient noise.

The news feature is laggy for me. I also wish it picked up quieter music or echoed music a little better.

Windows Phone already had this feature built into the OS for a long time already.

Also available through Google now, although tv recognition requires you to be on wifi for some reason with a compatible tv.

With iOS8 just hold down home button from lock screen (touch id) then ask Siri "what's the title of the song?"

You mean yell to Siri. And hope she filters out the song to understand your command first ;-)

The surprise (sneak killer feature), should be Siri.
A few sources have hinted at this.
As Google has bought the rights to Madgiell Roddenberry's Enterprise computer
voice, (and we all knew this was coming ...haha..), Siri has an update in the works for near, but not quite AI ....hmmmm?..

It's gonna get real interesting very soon, in tech time. Can hardly wait.

The main thing id like from this is speed of activation. Problem I have with Shazam is by the time I get to the app and it decides to load up and listen the part of the song it would recognise has passed.

One great thing about shazam, is that you can see what people are tagging in real time around the world. Surprisingly it's largely American music.

Who cares about Shazam?! Give us Spotify!!
I do. Use it frequently. Couldn't care less about Spotify though.

Would be nice though if Siri actually started supported more languages and had third-party app integration.

It makes sense to integrate with Siri. However I hope you can launch it without voice command, too. Or perhaps they would just leave that functionality to the Shazam app.

I’d rather see more APIs that allow apps to finally integrate with Siri and other apps. To me it sounds ridiculous that Apple is once again cherry-picking a service for some enhanced integration, while setting competitors aside. It’s the same thing with social networks, where I can use Twitter or Facebook, but not Google+ or any other social network. The OS should become more flexible.

When has Apple ever been flexible with their OSes? Flexible alternatives exist, but apple have never really offered the kind of flexibility you desire.

never missed a song. Probably luck. Probably crappy Android allows a faster way for getting available things I need to reach fast.
