Several weeks ago, Apple began testing high-volume Push Notifications using a special build of the AP Mobile iPhone application distributed to developers testing beta versions of the upcoming iPhone OS 3.0. While the test was scheduled to last one week, Apple is apparently just now putting the final wraps on its testing, thanking developers for their assistance throughout the testing process.

Apple activated Push Notifications in mid-April, allowing developers to begin testing their applications with the service, which allows iPhone applications to receive updates while they are not actively running. Apple's AP Mobile test, however, was the first large-scale deployment of Push Notifications.

The conclusion of Push Notification testing and yesterday's public release of iTunes 8.2 supporting iPhone OS 3.0 suggest that development of the new iPhone operating system is nearing completion. iPhone OS 3.0 is expected to be a major topic of discussion at Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference next week, and many expect to hear about Apple's plans for its public launch at that time.

Meh, I never got the invitation in the first place....

where. Is flash. LOL.

Seriosly though. You have to wonder if as other posters have mentioned how big would flash be in that allowing nearly all web sites, increasing content by 80+, hulu, movie sites, (many are flash), and xvid is big, how much that would take from iTunes.

Regarding push, I hope it works. To gain entrance to business though, exchange is a no brainer. Even this high end mac mostly tech company, they did not use iPhones, had mobi 6.1, htc phones and were getting the new palm last I heard. They also get free phones from sprint. While I like iPhone services better, sometimes managment justb doesnt get it. LOL.

Peace.

So lesse . . . .

Push is "done"
iTunes 8.2 officially supports 3.0

I think we can safely assume that 3.0 is going to be released for current hardware at WWDC.

The features pertaining to the new hardware (iChat, etc) will probably come in July when the new hardware drops. This would explain the hardware mules we've seen with inconsistent appearance, etc.

Now all we can pray for is the new hardware having OLED.

Edit: anyone else LOL at the Palm Pre ad on MR pages?

The way Apple seems to be wrapping this up suggests that we would see 3.0 rather soon. Would there be a chance that 3.0 is released before the 3rd gen iPhone? Probably not, but just throwing it out there...

This is old news. They wrapped push last monday.
I'm pretty sure they're trying to avoid the 2.0 debacle of last year.
Release the new OS on old phones to make sure it works on the new phone.

Tried to tell you, they will be droping the release the day after WWDC opens.

Anyone know what current 3g users will get in terms of upgrade? With al the existing 3G phones, you have to wonder. I had a chance to install 3.0 a few months ago. We had it at work so know copy, paste, new swipe, gps via apps were there. Wonder what else via surprise will be there. Obviosky no new camera and if oled, camera are the only things while other phones support more media, does anyone seriosky think the iPhone could have a rough time, maybe just stay (sales), flat?

Peace
Edit: The reason I passed on 3.0 was at the time 3.0 killed voice mail I believe. I'm sure someone can confirm if it's been fixed. 3.0 release has to be coming soon. Anyone have a date?

I tried the Push notification out through invitation and I thought it worked pretty good. There are endless possibilities for its use.

It seems with the lack of any further developer betas, along with the release of iTunes 8.2 (which has 3.0 compatibility), that Apple might be releasing 3.0 at or soon after WWDC. Perhaps they wish to do a different release schedule than last year.

Sorry to have to break the news but Apple is not releasing OS 3.0 before the new hardware comes out. Early July it'll be available.

Prepare yourself for a disappointment and praying until WWDC 2010 or later.. There will be no OLED this year. The tech is not mature enough (blue color degradation) and Apple has a track record for playing it save.

Another bag of hurt, eh? Oh well. It'll be fun to see all those Zune HD's with pink screens in 6 months, then, I guess?

Do you have any evidence for that? Or is it just a wild statement?

The way apple are progressing I would think it would be sooner rather than later.

officially ended? just curious.

I am talking about the Push testing in the AP News app. The story makes it sound like they just ended the testing today. It actually expired awhile ago, but the user wouldn't know it until they opened the app. So, I wouldn't expect a new beta tomorrow based on this story today.
