So, back to the original point of the thread....

I am not a beta tester, and have not personally used 3.0 or push notifications, but I have high hopes for it as developers learn how to use it well and wisely.

But, for this beta test of push, is anyone able to report how many notifications came out to each person? It would be interesting to then extrapolate how many total pushes went out during the test. I am just wondering if the amount of testing that was done with one app with just x number of developers was enough to model what it will look like with hundreds/thousands of apps and hundreds of thousands (or millions) of users. I sure hope so.

Any thoughts?

I got *about* 10 total, don't remember exactly but it wasn't many.

I received about 2-3 a day. It didn't seem as though it was a lot as apparently a few other developers claimed to have received much more.

Great ... now can you PUSH out the goods, please? June 8, hurry up and get here, please!

:apple:

where. Is flash. LOL.

Flash runs like COMPLETE ASS on OS X and it won't be allowed on the iPhone until Adobe does a gut re-write for the platform where it doesn't cause people's MacBook Pro's fans to spin up when watching HD YouTube content.

I think we will see an "It's available today" announcements on OS 3.0 next Monday. The main reason 2.0 was released with the 3g, impo, was that the new hardware was not much different between the first gen and the 3g. So apple wanted to prevent people from getting 2.0 on their first gen and not upgrading to the 3g because the new software and apps got them 95 percent of what they wanted. This time around I feel that the third gen of the phone will offer many new features that warrant an upgrade, better screen, camera, auto focus, video capabilities, and a magnetometer. So having 3.0 on your 1st or 2nd gen iphone wont prevent many from upgrading to the new hardware.

+1. I also think an earlier poster had it right as well, making for a perfect storm next Monday. With the Pre coming out this weekend, the “regular” news channels will be comparing it to the iPhone and Apple wants to have the comparison look good on the software side of things.

Palm Pre: copy and paste, MMS = yes
Apple iPhone: copy and paste, MMS = no

And so on. With the release of OS 3.0, the iPhone answers these features right now while most people will not even be able to see a Pre, let alone own one for weeks if lucky (or interested).

OS 3.0 on Monday FTW!

I had received about 15 total. It was kind of annyoing sometimes, I had tested it with just the badge and found that better. It had an awesome sound when it pushed a headline..

Another bag of hurt, eh? Oh well. It'll be fun to see all those Zune HD's with pink screens in 6 months, then, I guess?
I think off of memory (I could be wrong or thinking of green) they said current OLED technology has Blue at 35,000 hrs (run time half life). Which is longer than LCD run time used to be... If I'm not confused, I think they said Red or Green was developed recently (future screen tech) at 100 yrs!
Hopefully we will have 3.0 next monday :)
Yes that would be awesome, but if you remember when the second generation 3G phone came out, didn't it have an OS upgrade/announcement that same summer that ended up rolling out in August???
What's with all the people saying the iPhone will be released in July? There has been no evidence for that. In the past year, Schiller said the normal life-cycle of the iPhone is for a June release. I don't know how anyone figures July fits into the picture other than last year when it was July.
He did say that, but this will be one of those things where all fanboys are sitting around with pit stains praying he says "available now" and not "the second week of July" or "August"... June Please! :D
Ok I might have some inside info that 3.0 will be going live Friday June 5 at 1:00 pm ET time.
 Absolutely ridiculously fantastic. I doubt it, but you deserve a slap on the butt if it turned out right.

I don't think their intention was to slam your phone all day every day to the point you dread the future of Push and chunk your phone into a blender. If I remember a snippet from AP they said it was "casual news updates" being tested and the heavy load was based on total server volume, not per phone.

3.0 + hardware update will happen simultaneously. And it will happen at WWDC.

Would it not seem just plain weird to only release 3.0 on devices that can not take full advantage of all the new features of 3.0, let a month or so pass, then release hardware that can take advantage of all of 3.0's goodness?

Again, 3.0 + hardware update will happen simultaneously. And it will happen at WWDC.

Thanks for your help and feedback
Testing has concluded

I don't go to MacRumours very often anymore because this web site should be renamed iPhoneRumours. I'm sick of the iPhone related rumours and 'news.'

You know what? That's a great idea!! I wonder if arn registered that domain?

Allow me to list the reasons for all the iPhone rumors:

1.) The iPhone is now more popular than the Mac. It is mainstream because of it's iPod roots.

2.) Apple is becoming more focused on the iPhone than ever. Blame them.

3.) The number of members on this site has rapidly increased since the iPhone was released. These are people who probably wouldn't have become involved here in the first place, including myself, who eventually became a switcher, because of the iPhone. Arn makes tons of money off ads from the millions of people who want to read about the iPhone.

Go start your own site if you think you could do better.

So you think the 3rd gen iPhone is coming out in less than a week? I find that hard to believe, but wouldn't complain.

Doesn't the phone itself need to go through FCC testing? And if it passed wouldn't we all know it?

Since it has a new radio for the 7.2mbps 3G from AT&T?

This is a pretty good indicator for when 3.0 will be out:

They still have a few more betas to go, based on the 2.0 beta releases...

You can ask the FCC (and similar agencies around the world) for a limited period of confidentiality after submitting hardware for certification.
