Hmm....

Wouldn't something like Palringo generate a lot more Push Notifications because of the amount of messages even a single person might receive? Now multiply that for how many people have Palringo signed in for hours.

I just hope it will be able to handle it all lol

For those who says the 3.0 would go smoothly because there's less stuff to release and break, that's logical and make sense but Murphy Laws say there's still stuff to break and something will go wrong.

Now, my take on this is that Apple will release OS 3.0 on the day of the new iPhone announcement. Mainly because there is no need to keep 3.0 hidden for the reason that the announcement will detail all the secrets that won't be spoiled by the early release of OS 3.0.

It is possible that Apple could release a public beta of OS 3.0 at WWDC.

Do you have any evidence for that? Or is it just a wild statement?

The way apple are progressing I would think it would be sooner rather than later.

Do YOU have ANY evidence of your claim... or are YOU just making a wild statement

I am pretty sure there's a limit to how much notification you can get per app, and per some period of time.

Palringo probably would send a notification saying "You have 10 messages from 4 people" and send an update every 15 min, so the next one would be like "You have 25 messages from 5 people".

I'm guessing this is the main reason Apple has decided to be the "pusher". This way they can throttle bandwidth if the pushes get to be too many at any given point in time.

Ok I might have some inside info that 3.0 will be going live Friday June 5 at 1:00 pm ET time.

What is the front page screenshot?

Hi,

The lack if any symbian style customizable home screen (as seen on even the most basic nokia) has long been a minor irritation on the iPhone.
I have not seen any sight of this app? or is in os3 (don't remember any mention of it)

Can anyone shed any light on this ?

Thanks and sorry if I am just out if touch

Yeah, but that was Apple advertising one of their products on Yahoo (a search engine). That's hardly the same as Palm advertising the Pre on MacRumors.

Again, I don't know squat about advertising and you might be 100% correct. Just doesn't make sense (at least to me) that Palm would run out and advertise on individual sites. I would think they'd leave the targeted advertising to companies that know how to to it way better than they could themselves.

The ads on this site generally say "ads by google" so google analyzes which ads match best with the type of site you are on and the demographics of the viewers. We are likely to get "3g touchscreen blackberry storm" and psystar ads and very unlikely to get "buy one, get one at babies r us" and Viagra ads. It's the power and presence of google. It makes it easy for both website and advertiser to get ad revenue and place ads appropriately.

Before they officially announce it at WWDC?? I'm prepared to eat some grilled, sauteed, fried, crow if they release it before next week, but I seriously doubt it will be out before WWDC. That being said, that would be awesome if it were. Just doesn't fit Apple's past behavior.

D'OH! I pay so little attention to the ads, I didn't even notice the "ads by google" disclaimer right underneath them.

Nice to know I wasn't completely talking out of my ass. :D

More Bars, In More Places... says AT&T

But just not wherever that iPhone photo that is used in conjunction with this story! Wherever it is! :D

You know if it were a stock photo, that phone would be showing 5 BARS!

C'mon WWDC... :apple:

What's with all the people saying the iPhone will be released in July? There has been no evidence for that. In the past year, Schiller said the normal life-cycle of the iPhone is for a June release. I don't know how anyone figures July fits into the picture other than last year when it was July.

well apple likes to tease us. "Oh hi! look at all these cool new features in v3.0 of software! too bad we're not releasing it for 3 months, LULZ" (they've freakin done that with v2.0 too). Going by that logic WWDC "Oh hi! look at all these cool new features in the new iphone! we're not releasing it till July though, LULZ" That and because I'm holding out with this crappy phone till the new one comes out means they're going to drag it out as long as possible. :)

When does the Pre come out ? June 5th ?

I'm guessing in order to quash the publicity for the Pre Apple will release software 3.0 and the new iPhone June 8th.

Sorry to have to break the news but Apple is not releasing OS 3.0 before the new hardware comes out. Early July it'll be available.

And you know this how? Do you have insider information? If so, please tell us where you got this insider information.

kthnxbai

I think that Apple very well may release 3.0 to current hardware before the next iPhone is released, in an effort to avoid the embarrassment of last year.

Notice that I said *I THINK*

Don

LOL at the people saying 3.0 will be coming out sometime in July. Do you really think Apple is going to be sitting on their hands while the Pre comes out, especially after a full month of it being out??? And why would iTunes 8.2 have come out yesterday (as it really offers ud no changes as far as we call tell this minute)?

Even though last year launch was a disaster, Apple will not separate software release with hardware release of iPhone. They just don't do that.

Have to agree with this. This is the first real competition they've had in two years. They're not going sit on 3.0 for a month while the Pre hogs the spotlight. It may not be ready on June 8, but most likely by Fri, June 12 at the latest. This also gives them the opportunity to preload the new iPhone's with the new OS so they don't have a repeat of last years clusterf*ck.

It has already been officially announced

I'll rephrase. It's highly unlikely they would push out a major s/w release three days before the start of WWDC. Apple is all about rolling out new features/hardware with a flashy presentation.

This will be one of those famous "And it's available today" scenarios Apple is known for.

I'd like to think it would come out earlier this year to avoid the problems of last year.

I suspect the reason that people couldn't activate their iPhone 3G's was because everyone was already downloading the 2.0 release for their iPhone and iPod's. They aren't small files after all.

So this year they release iTunes 8.2 a week in advance to give people to get that installed. Then they release the updates for the iPhone's and iPod's to 3.0 before the new hardware. Gives people a chance to play with it and Apple to get an update ready for the new hardware if there is a few bugs. Also helps knock Palm's Pre as the iPhone will then have copy / paste, spotlight, etc.

Remember that it's likely the iPhone will be available in even more places this year and probably not be a spread out launch like it was last year with countries going online many months after the main ones. So the amount of load from activations should be higher this year so makes more sense to keep their servers free so people don't end up buying a phone on launch to find they cannot use it until the day after because they cannot get it activated. I brought my iPhone 3G on launch but couldn't use it until the end of the day in the UK as I couldn't get it to activate. Was really annoying and not the kind of experience you want to give to buyers after just getting your new product (Especially as to get one on launch you had to queue).
