I nearly fell off my chair.

I didn't know that Apple ships macOS 26 with "Grapher."

I think I must have used it in 1995 the last time.

And then the damp squib Maps.

Use Maps and you will loose the will to live.

Or let me ask: "Would anyone of you pay money for Grapher or Apple Maps?"

(A case could also be made for Pages and Keynote. Apple should team up with Microsoft and ship every OS with Word or Powerpoint. The last time when I used Word or Powerpoint on a Mac (although many years ago) it seemed to be well integrated.)

Absolutely not!
It's saying as if Apple should kill of Safari because you don't use it and Apple should ship their products with Microsoft Edge.
If Edge is better than Safari they could yes, ship macOS with it.

But Safari is a lot better integrated into macOS. I see no reason to ship macOS with Edge.

I use Edge at work but I think it is a rubbish browser.

I use Firefox on my work Linux account (the only browser we are allowed to use on Linux). But Firefox is dead in the water and has completely lost the plot.

I use Apple Maps all the time. It’s a lot nicer looking and the 3D view is great (I live in an area that’s fully 3D mapped). I just google for better POIs since Yelp is TRASH. I can’t stand the look of Google Maps.

When Apple started showing ads in Maps, I rage quit and started using Google Maps. I did that for about three months and now I'm back. Like you said, it's just so much less cluttered and smoother. I know Google has the better database, but at least for where I live Apple Maps is fine.

I use grapher often. Maybe the world doesn't revolve around you OP?
(If the word would revolve around me, we would be in big trouble).

But this piqued my interest.

For what do you use grapher?

Even 30 years ago Grapher was a gimmick.

I cannot remember an instance where grapher would have given me something I really need.

Coming back to the OPs post.

Yes I can understand he moans about Grapher and Maps.

Apple will most likely have people or teams looking after Grapher and Maps. Waste of resources.

Instead wouldn't we need more manpower making Safari more stable? Or the whole system a better experience?

There is probably other bloatware in my Apps folder which is dead in the water (and what is worse one cannot easily delete it from the system by not going rogue).

It is not so much the look.

But Apple Maps never finds anything (okay it may be different in the USA).
Right, that’s why I use Google to find POIs and Google Maps on the phone for the same reason.

As an aside, I very much dislike the way Google navigates. In my state, Colorado, it’s literally given me bad directions to nowhere twice. Apple Maps has only done that once in every state I’ve been to and that’s because the POI didn’t exist anymore. It didn’t dump me off in an empty parking lot a block away from the POI like Google Maps has.

Maybe for clarification.

I cannot say anything about Maps on an iphone/iOS and how it compares to Google (I don't own a smartphone).

But a few days ago I was reminded how 'bad' Maps can be.

Event in a city and I was looking up a street name which was given to us by the organisers.

I cannot remember why all in a sudden Maps opened on my Macbook.

Street not there in Maps.

Of course is was there on google maps.

All that tells us is that you don’t need a graphing calculator

I seem to recal having either a cartridge or cassette of Graf 64 but could never figure out what do to with it, probably because I was like 8 years old
I am not denying that people don't need a graphing calculator.

But even 30 years I was using Maple (student license) and the uni had Mathematica installed.

Yes I know you will argue but for bog standard simple tasks Maple and Mathematica is overkill.

But the Grapher is pretty limited. It is nowhere here nor there.

I would also imagine (year 2026) you get the Grapher functionality for free with any of these web interfaces.

That seems to be a Europe issue. Here in the states Apple Maps is more up to date than Google Maps from all my traveling.

I live on the outskirts of a rapidly growing area and the new street names show up on AM within a day or two of them being built. Maybe we’re more active in reporting issues?

I’ve also reported several things missing on GM and AM at the same time and Apple always adds the missing POI or street first. Google has taken 6 months with Google descriptions and picture proof to add long standing missing things (like a newer public bathroom, yes free, I ran into).

where I am Apple Maps even knows the lane configuration of every intersection. Google Maps does not and will try to get you to do things that are impossible

Even if Maps would use the same data base as google it would trail google maps.

I often use 'Streetview'.

I am living abroad in Europe. But whenever I go back to the Alps I am surprised how good goole maps is (I have no idea where they get all the 'local' information from).

Would be interesting to know if google would sell Apple the google maps. There is nothing wrong with making Maps the better integrated google maps on the Mac.

I am actually not surprised that Maps for understandable reasons and home turf will work well in the USA (I guess this is your location).

But google maps probably has better global worldwide coverage.
