I have always kept all my phones in some sort of case so that when the new version comes out I have been able to sell my old iPhone for a pretty decent price.

However, I sometimes get annoyed by having a case on all the time and just want to go without at times....this would mean my phone would show more "wear and tear" and therefore not be worth as much come sale time when I upgrade.

Have any of you got AppleCare and did a replacement before an upgrade in order to sell it?:apple:

64GB phone, bought Applecare+ ... for the next year and three quarters, I intend to use this phone and not baby it. If it gets scratched, dinged, or whatever, to the point of it looking like crap, I'll get my first replacement for $50 and also use the heck out of it... Then just before the plan expires, I will get my second replacement for another $50 and put it in a case.

Scratches and dings dont qualify for replacement.

Worth Ave Group covers stolen, but not lost for $84 for a 32 GB. Add or subtract $5 for 64 or 16.

I was going to go with WAG, but AppleCare+ actually adds to the warranty and I'll be handing my 5 down next year to my wife, so that sealed the deal.

So WAG is $84ish a year and adds loss protection. Whats not clear is if you covered for multiple occurences in the year. I have emailed them for a response as they dont share on their web site (odd).

If it is not "normal wear and tear", it does.

The only way is if the phone is not working and the scratches were incidental to the accident.

Otherwise, if the phone is working they will not replace it.

That's not to say an genius won't say ok, but technically, they are not covered.

The person above is speaking about replacing for scratches once a year.... not going to happen.

FWIW, when I purchased WAG's insurance for my iPad, I was told over the phone that there weren't any limits. They stated they leave it off their site to help with it not being abused. Of course if your phone is stolen once a month, they may end up dropping you.

(To file for a stolen phone, you must have a police report.)

Just dip the iPhone in water while u take a bath/shower.

There problem solved. Than take iphone to apple and get it replaced for $50 deductible.

I went with the best buy insurance. You don't even need to buy the phone from them to get it. You can pay either up front 229 or 15 a month. Covers everything but lost or stolen for 2 years. No limit. You could break it once a month. Includes one new battery too.

I'm a big fan of AppleCare, so I bought the extended policy with my 5.

Apple after sales service has always been second to none in my experience so I would definitely consider buying it.

I have bought Apple care+ for all my products but it wasn't until reading these forums that I found out that if you don't want it anymore you can request a refund for the unused portion. So I canceled it on my 4s after little less than one year because i ordered the iphone 5 and I received $47.54 back for the unused portion. So it's nice to know that if I pay the $99 upfront I do have coverage and phone support for two years but it's also nice to know when I decide to upgrade my phone before the expiration of the policy I can get a refund back for the unused portion of the policy. It took about three weeks to get my refund and I just received the check yesterday. And I have never had to go into a store to have them inspect my phone or my iPad prior to purchasing it and I only live 2.5 miles away from the closest Apple Store. I have always called and added it over the phone by giving them the serial number of the product. And yes I purchased it for my iPhone 5.

So they did not charge the cancel fee of $25?

No I didn't receive a charge or cancellation fee of $25 they never said anything about that. I purchased the AppleCare + in October 2011 for my iPhone for 4S and I canceled it on September 23, 2012 and I got a check in the mail on Friday for $47.54 which is what I was told in the email confirmation that I would be receiving. They would have credited back the credit card that I had used to purchase it but I had canceled that credit card last year. That's why I got a check in the mail

I purchased the Applecare+ after I found out the replacement is now over $200.00

Wow. That's really expensive.

I used to use BB for phone warranties because they were much cheaper a few years ago, but The major problem with BB is that IF your phone has issues then it requires being sent to a repair center and they offer no loaners. So you're pretty much out of a phone for 1-2wks which is absolutely ridiculous.

But A benefit of the BB warranty is that they give you an extra $50 trade in value. I traded in my 4S with BB and got a decent price so hopefully it works out for you. But they've definitely priced me out of buying their warranties again.

Keep in mind that Applecare+ only good for water damage, cracked screen and non operating Iphones. Yes , its peace of mind and security. And if you dont use it you you payed just $99. If you upgrade after 1 year you'll get back 1/2 your purchase price minus a fee.

Keep in mind they are NOT going to replace your IPHONE for normal wear and tear, scuffs, dings, etc.

I am not sure about the loaner program but if the phone is having issues just break it to the point where they won't repair it and you get a new one.

What about if you get a replacement under the plan at say 6 months in? Then at 12 months (new phone comes out) so you upgrade. could you then recoup that last year, or since you actually used the applecare no?

Does Apple offer a student discount on AppleCare+ for the iPhone 5/

only on applecare with macs and maybe ipads(not sure about ipads). A phone is not considered a "school" purchase.
