I already pay less than $5.99 a month per device for AC. This really wouldn’t save me anything. I pay the equivalent of $5.41 a month because I renew yearly. So, four devices is $21.66 a month. On the new plan it would be $25.99.

i pay for apple care yearly. how do i figure out the math on this?
# of devices you pay for AppleCare+ yearly. Find out how much they cost.

Divide by 12 to find out monthly payment or keep it annual if you can for ease of math.

If devices are <= 3 then this plan might work out to a savings at $20/mo or $240/year.

Example:

Say you have a 16' MacBook Pro on Annual AppleCare+ at $149.99/year.
Say you have an iPhone 15 Pro Max on Annual AppleCare+ Theft and Loss at $139.99/year.
Say you have an M2 iPad Pro on Annual AppleCare+ that's $74.99/year.

That would be $149.99+$139.99+$74.99 = $364.97.

$364.97 is more than $240/year. You could add those 3 devices to the AppleCare One plan at a $124.97/year savings.

Thanks. I have an iPhone 16, iPad mini 7,m3 MacBook Air (plus a series 9 watch and AirPods Pro 2). I’ll have dig up what I paid already.

I didn't do my own verification but AI says: $119.99 for your iPhone, $47.88? for your iPad, and $79.99 for your MacBook Air.

So around $247.86 a year. You'll break about even doing this $20/mo plan with the advantage of it being under one plan and your iPhone and iPad will be covered with theft and loss now.

Pretty much comes down to getting theft and loss added for about same price. Also, when get a new iPhone or iPad you will be over ac one price because apple only offering theft and loss plans now.

Decent deal if you have 3 devices that you want covered. For me, covering just my MBP and iPhone would save me $1.25 vs yearly + for the MBP and monthly on the phone.

Ok Gemini is aware of AppleCare One and helped me out:

Okay, here's a brief recap of the math for each recommendation.
Scenario: You have a iPhone 16, M3 MacBook Air, and iPad mini. You're considering adding your Apple Watch Series 9 and AirPods to AppleCare One.

1. Switching Primary Devices to AppleCare One (iPhone 16, M3 MacBook Air, iPad mini)

  • Your Current Annual Individual AppleCare+ Costs:
    • iPad mini: $37.88
    • M3 MacBook Air: $199 (3-year upfront) / 3 = $66.33
    • iPhone 16: $279 (2-year upfront for T&L assumed) / 2 = $139.50
    • Total Current (Annualized): $37.88 + $66.33 + $139.50 = $243.71
  • AppleCare One Annual Cost (3 Devices):
    • $19.99/month * 12 months = $239.88
  • Math & Recommendation:
    • $243.71 (Current) - $239.88 (AppleCare One) = $3.83 annual savings
    • Recommendation: YES, switch.
      • Reasoning: Slight cost savings + iPad mini gains theft and loss coverage + iPhone also gains T&L if not already covered + simplified billing.

2. Adding Apple Watch Series 9 to AppleCare One

  • Your Current Annual Individual AppleCare+ Cost: $43.29
  • Cost to add to AppleCare One: $5.99/month * 12 months = $71.88
  • Math & Recommendation:
    • $71.88 (Add to AC1) - $43.29 (Current) = $28.59 additional annual cost
    • Recommendation: Consider it.
      • Reasoning: Costs more, but the Apple Watch gains theft and loss coverage, which is a significant added value if that protection is important to you.

3. Adding AirPods to AppleCare One

  • Your Current Annual Individual AppleCare+ Cost: $16.23
  • Cost to add to AppleCare One: $5.99/month * 12 months = $71.88
  • Math & Recommendation:
    • $71.88 (Add to AC1) - $16.23 (Current) = $55.65 additional annual cost
    • Recommendation: NO.
      • Reasoning: Significantly more expensive with no additional theft and loss coverage for AirPods (as AppleCare+ does not cover lost/stolen AirPods anyway). You'd be paying much more for the same level of accidental damage and battery coverage.

Anyone know if there's a way to UNDO a device that was added to AC1 and put it back onto it's own yearly AC+ plan that it had before being added to AC1?

Found out after a phone call to Apple Support, that I can't have AC1 since the iPhone that is less than 4 years old that had AC+ but has expired more than 45 days ago makes it ineligible. Bummer.

I was able to add an iPhone 14 Pro Max that had an expired AC+.

Here is a reddit thread addressing it.

Edit: that’s not the one I read earlier. I’ll keep looking.
Thanks for the reply. I spent a lot of time with Apple Supoort eventually reaching a senior rep in Apple Care. She told me flat out it’s not possible. (She did mention that if I pay off my iPhone I could add it, but that defeats the purpose of IUP)

If anyone has successfully added their iPhone under iPhone Upgrade Program to AppleCare One, I’d love to know the magic phrase used to get to the right folks at Apple.

At this point I’m going to see if there is a new option when I get the iPhone 17 in September to add it to AppleCare One.

What a hassle! My wife’s 15 Pro Max is paid off so technically she’s no longer under iUP I guess (we decided to pay it off a few months ago). No iPhone payment is REALLY NICE. Haha.

But it won’t let us add her phone to AppleCare One, and I don’t feel like spending an hour or more with Apple Support to try to do it. :/ When her AppleCare+ expires in September, maybe it will let us then.

I’m really surprised! I thought since it’s paid off it would allow you to add it.

I hope you can in fact add it in September!

What am I missing? Why would you need additional insurance? Don't your home/contents insurance cover this already and much more?
Usually home insurance will have a larger deductible than AppleCare+. You also might not want to make a claim on your Home Insurance for something "smaller" that you could potentially live with... Not everyone may feel this way, but I can see why there may be value to having both.

I'll continue buying apple care on my apple silicon macbooks. I had my nearly $4k specced m4 max mbp start running at about 1/4th of the regular speed. Initially I thought I was having internet issues, then I ran some benchmarks... Things like browser bench that I expected a score of 38 - 45 were getting 7 - 9. My wife's M3 mba was getting around 25. After a complete restore from DFU mode the issue persisted. In the end Apple replaced the logic board and i never got an answer on what was actually the problem, but it would suck to get stuck with a m4 mbp that runs about as fast as an intel mac.
Yes - one of the things that make the AppleCare+ cost "more valuable" is if you have a higher spec'd device. And you see that the most with Macs. AppleCare+ cost the same for all specs within a model (eg. all 14" MacBook Pros), and it's the same cost if you have the base model, or a $4k+ model. With the latter, the % cost of the AppleCare+ insurance is much lower. It doesn't mean of course it's a no-brainer to get it, but it definitely makes it a better value than if you have the base model / lower-spec'd model.

I'm kind of confused on the pricing and wondering if I'm missing something. Currently have Applecare+ plans (billed yearly) on M2 MBA, M4 Mac mini, and a series 8 watch (phone is on iPhone upgrade program). Currently paying $80, $35, $40 per year for each of those, respectively. Comes out to $155/year. If I change to Applecare One, I'm paying $20/month, so $240 for the year. Is my logic correct? It would be $85 more a year?
Yes. Your 3 devices makes it such that AppleCare One doesn't make sense for you. Lot of posts on this now, but you usually need at least one of a relatively newer iPhone, a MacBook Pro (not a Mac Mini or MBA), an iPad Pro, or definitely if you have a Vision Pro...

Anyone know if there's a way to UNDO a device that was added to AC1 and put it back onto it's own yearly AC+ plan that it had before being added to AC1?
This was a key question for me. I went into a store and asked this exact question. They weren't sure, but after asking internally, the response was that NO, you can't. Once you cancel an AC+ plan (monthly or annual), and moving to AppleCare One is in effect cancelling AC+ as it's a different product, you CANNOT go back to the monthly plan thereafter (unless you're still in the very short window of first 60 days of ownership).

To me this was the deciding factor. As once I move to AC One, I can't really cancel just 1 or 2 devices and keep 1 or 2 AC by moving back to an individual monthly plan. Only if you have other devices you can put back into AC One and where it makes sense.

Fair enough. Mine has none for a phone. And generally, you can set it at a level that you are happy with. To me, it's less than double insuring stuff.

Something has changed in the AppleCare section of the Settings Apps on my devices.

When I look up the AppleCare for my M4 Mac mini (which has 3-year prepaid coverage) for example, I'm no longer offered the (very unattractive) option to add it to AppleCare One. In the list of devices, it's also not showing my 2021 HomePods mini with an orange text "AppleCare available" or what that said.

However, they're all still listed when I click/tap "Add Device...". The devices that already have AppleCare+ have a text saying "Replace your AppleCare+ coverage" below them. I like to think someone at Apple read my post upthread (as if, but then again who knows) and stopped pushing this too much on devices where it doesn't make any sense.
