24+ hours later after signing up and adding my M2 iMac and I still cannot add my phone or iPad. I even called support and they couldn’t see any reason it’s not eligible.

I'll continue buying apple care on my apple silicon macbooks. I had my nearly $4k specced m4 max mbp start running at about 1/4th of the regular speed. Initially I thought I was having internet issues, then I ran some benchmarks... Things like browser bench that I expected a score of 38 - 45 were getting 7 - 9. My wife's M3 mba was getting around 25. After a complete restore from DFU mode the issue persisted. In the end Apple replaced the logic board and i never got an answer on what was actually the problem, but it would suck to get stuck with a m4 mbp that runs about as fast as an intel mac.
Sure, your and my observations are anecdotal and equally valid. AC1 makes it even more attractive to insure large purchases.

Looked at buying a HomePod mini just for fun to check the options. There is an acceptable standalone AC plan for $0.99 monthly or $9.99 yearly. Alternatively, there's the highly attractive(?) option of adding it to AC1 starting from $5.99 monthly, which amounts to only $72 yearly.

I wouldn't feel so happy if in the heat of battle I'd select the latter option to then later be told that there's no way to switch to the first one. It would mean I could either keep AppleCare at a yearly price that's 7.2x the other option, or not get AppleCare at all for it.

I think Apple shouldn't offer AC1 for the HomePod mini if someone already has 3 devices on their AC1, which they can easily check because they have the information.

I'm very happy with the items I moved to AC1 because that'll save me a lot of money, but there are some real pitfalls on the lower end.

Just curious, do you and your wife both have an individual Apple One subscription?
I thought that was required and you can only add devices on your own account.

Just making sure I’m clear.

I thought most couples and families would share the Apple One subscription.

That is correct, two separate plans. AppleCare One is driven by the AppleID the devices are associated with above payment method. If I wanted to cover her MBA, I’d need to add it to my own account. That account link is what allows them to hot-swap on and off the plan with ease.

I just received my refund for the partial month of AppleCare for my iPhone. It was put back on my credit card. I know some mentioned receiving gift cards. Perhaps if your original form of payment does not support refunds, that is a possibility.

I'm not able to sign up. I'm in the US, but when I go to sign up on the web it says it's not available in my location.

I called AppleCare to ask why, and the first thing they wanted to do is screen sharing (Why is that always their first instinct? I was accurately reporting what the web-site said. I don't need them snooping on my computer.)

He said it's easiest to sign up through Settings on the iPhone or Mac anyway. But then it turned out you need either Sequioia or iOS 18 to do that (I tend to stay one version behind).

As soon as he heard that I wasn't on the latest OS, he claimed that's why it doesn't let me sign up on the web as well . . . hmm.

It doesn't make a lot of sense that your products need to be on the latest OS to sign up because some of the products that would have been sold in the last four years (Apple Watch Series 3) can't even update to the latest OS.
It’s not surprising that new features will require the latest OS. I could see that as annoying to some. This new AppleCare has just been released so I suspect Apple is going to make changes as bug reports roll in. It wouldn’t surprise me if they add compatibility with older operating systems.

Since you can rotate your device warranty the same way you switch between streaming services, I suppose that this plan can make sense for when you leave for a holiday trip or partake in some risky activity?

Isn’t that already covered by your home contents insurance?

Thats tracking as my phone was through citizen loan and I got a gift card pretty quickly, still waiting on the prorated amount for my MacBook Pro, iPad Pro and AWU2 though. May call later today.

Anyone getting older stuff approved like 2020 xdr Pro Display ? Mine got approved . But needs to be connected to a Mac. Have another one not with me and can’t add it

Loophole that corporate mdm locked items being cancelled and given massive gift cards when upgrading to AppleCare one? Those mdm locked or Best Buy items with expiration dates of like 2031?

Yeah all the signup screens to deal with this are baked into the Settings App so I can see why the latest OS is needed. What's funny is, I couldn't get the Settings screen to show it till I went to https://apple.com/applecare and clicked on Get Coverage.
So I upgraded my iPhone to iOS 18.5 from iOS 17 something and it still didn't show up as an option in Settings.

But upgrading somehow made it so the web-site (https://agreementsales.apple.com/) when opened on my MacBook Pro offered AppleCare One and stopped saying there were no AppleCare products available in my region. And my Mac is still on Sonoma.

From the iPhone itself it still doesn't show AppleCare One as an option under Settings unless I specifically tap on my MacBook Pro (which has an existing three year plan) and it lets me upgrade to AppleCare One. And that upgrade lets me include my iPhone and Apple Watch, whose coverage have otherwise elapsed. But strangely that offer doesn't show up under the coverage section for the iPhone itself. If I had only tapped on that, I would just thought I was out of luck as all it says is that my coverage has expired.

The point is I'm able to sign up, but it is confusing. And I'm curious if I didn't have the MacBook Pro as part of my account if the option to sign up would show up at all. Apple is often clunky with stuff like this.

The pencil is not included in the lost or theft coverage. Nor is the keyboard.

That’s good to know. Not as useful for the accessories then, but still nice if something happens to the keyboard like you spill on it.

According to the AppleCare One Terms and Conditions (New York) in section 1, "... The following accessories that are compatible and used with Covered Devices may be registered under the Plan and will not count towards your Plan device limit (if enrolled under the Plan, "Accessories," and together with Covered Devices, "Covered Equipment"): Apple Pencil, Apple Pencil Pro, Apple-branded iPad keyboard (collectively, "iPad Input Devices"); ..."

And in section 4, "Unless the Accessory ships prior to the Covered Device, if the Accessory is purchased at the same time as a compatible Covered Device the Accessory will automatically be registered under the Plan. Otherwise, you must contact Apple to register the Accessory. ..."

What on earth is that thing about accessories shipping before the main device? Every single time when I buy anything together with a case etc., the accessory will ship and arrive a few days before the main item. What difference is that supposed to make? I'm supposed to register all of these with support?

The only (tortured) alternative read of this is that they're trying to say that you can't just buy accessories individually before the main device and have them covered under this.

Another thing I do routinely with iPhones is to order the iPhone alone (because sometimes seconds count if you want a specific config) and then order the case separately.

This is either poorly thought out or poorly phrased.

They’re saying if it’s bought at the same time as the device it will be automatically registered. If you buy it before you buy the device, you have to call Apple to have it registered.

Yes, I bought the Apple Pencil Pro and the Magic Keyboard for my M4 iPad Pro separately and after the actual iPad purchase. I got (and still have) monthly AppleCare+ for it. I had to call Support and have the pencil and MK added specifically.

There’s a few threads on this - it’s weird that you can’t do it without human intervention (ie. just add it in your Settings in your iPad, or somehow online on your Apple Account). Even the person I spoke to on the phone said it’s one of those things you need to call about.

I did the same with my iPad Mini 6 and iPad Pro M4.

If that's what they mean, they're fumbling the language by talking about shipping. It's under their control when something ships earlier, even if it's purchased at the same time.

Those are the rough patches of dealing with Apple. Until half a year or so, you also had to call when you had leftover AppleCare on something after a trade-in. I guess they made the refunds automatic in preparation for AppleCare One.

I'm Apple's biggest fan etc. etc., but I think some parts of the retail experience have been poor for as long as I remember. Examples are what you're telling me about accessories, the fact that stores don't carry fully specced out models of MBPs, and (personal anecdote) that for many years, only on iPhone orders and nothing else, I used to have to take an extra step for my payment to select my email address every single blasted (not using another word here, heh) time for it to work. Again, only on iPhone orders.

It's like the online purchase department is run ever so slightly less intelligently than most other departments.
