The guide to benefits Chase gives you with the card. But it ONLY applies if you paid off the phone, up front or the rest of the payments left, not still on installments.

so if you break it after month 1 to use the Chase benefits you need to shell out about $950 to pay off the phone first. AND they use a 3rd party insurer, so it very likely wont be same day repair like Applecare.

I'd just go Applecare.

I didnt know about the paid off part, but as for the repair if you have Apple repair it you can do same day repair & upload chase the receipt that they then reimburse you via a check; if it’s a third party repairer I believe you have to get a quote & then permission (I’ve never don’t it this way).

I was told at the Apple Store yesterday that you have 60 days from time of purchase to add AC+. Hmmmm

Correct, 60 days. If you cannot get to a store they can add it over the phone and run remote diagnostics on your phone.

It has to be at least a certain price. They are not going to cover $600 repairs on a phone you are paying monthly on. All credit cards are like that. They will never cover more than you actually charged on your card for the phone.

I have the Chase Ink business card. Nothing says you have to have the phone paid off. Just need to pay for the monthly cell service with the Ink card. Phone has to be purchased new (not used or refurb) but nothing says paid off.

This is the only Chase card that provides coverage (as far as I know). Other personal chase cards do not.

Just dug out the terms for the card (chase ink business) as not sure I ever have them a read through; the only stipulation is that you had to have paid your monthly bill using the card during the month you broke the phone (you have to upload them 2 docs to get your money: 1. Repair bill, 2. Cell phone bill matching the monthly payment from the credit card statement.

This route only makes sense though if you are using the card to earn chase reward too as it has a $95 annual fee.

That’s damn impressive and the only card I know of that does that. The best I have seen is repairs up to a certain dollar amount and it will not exceed the amount you put on the card. For example, if I put a down payment of $600 on the phone and paid the rest through an installment plan, the most that would be covered is $600

Wells Fargo visa signature card has this cellphone protection policy. The requirement is that the monthly cellphone wireless bill must be charged recurring on this Wells Fargo card then they provide up to $600 reimbursement for repair, replacement, EVEN if the phone is lost or stolen (requires police report). It's a free protection coverage for up to 4 lines on a wireless account. I don't think AppleCare+ covers for lost or stolen iPhones.

From Wells Fargo web site:
"What do I need to submit with my claim?
.....
• A document from the Cellular Wireless Telephone provider or other sufficient proof, as determined by the benefit administrator, that the telephone you are claiming is currently linked to your Cellular Wireless Telephone account.
....
"

I decided to call At&t to obtain the "sufficient proof" and my call was unsuccessful. You need a letter from your provider that your phone IMEI is currently connected.

My opinion that free is only cheese...

I hope I'm wrong here and open to hear success stories of the benefit execution.

I go with Apple Care+ I wait till Square Trade delivers their iPhone X insurance prices and if they give me better deal I cancel Apple Care (first 30 days free) and go with Square.

I was on the chat with square yesterday. They stated that their current prices do cover the iPhone X. Up to 4 incidents a year and $99 per occurrence.

I stated the AppleCare price for screen replacement is only $29 and square said you may get a discount, to know for sure you have to submit a claim before you take your phone in for service. My idea is with Apple replacing the screen on the X for $279. Square will more then likely charge you the $99.

Has anyone ever used square trade? How are they with claims? The last thing I want to happen is for my claim to get denied for whatever reason and I be stuck with that Apple bill of $279 or $550.

I had SquareTrade for my iPhone 6s Plus. I had to make a claim for water damage and it went very smoothly. I called in to start the claim which took about 5 minutes. I then went to the Apple Store, paid the replacement fee, uploaded the receipt, and I had a reimbursement check in less than a week. While it took a few more steps, they were pretty simple and saved me money over apple care.

Awesome, sounds like a good smooth experience. Are you going to go with them again for the iPhone X, or do you still have square trade?

If I decide to get insurance, it will for sure be square trade. SquareTrade is $129 for 2 years or $159 for 3 years. This is cheaper than Apple Care which is $199 for 2 years. The deductibles are both $99 if you break anything other than the screen.

The only downside to SquareTrade is that you have to call to set up a claim and get reimbursed after paying for a replacement. For some, the little extra convenience Apple Care provides may be worth the extra $70.

Agreed it may be worth it for me that’s why I was wondering on experiences. Also to make sure it was an easy transaction and will not have me waiting a while for reimbursement or worst yet, not getting reimbursed.

Squaretrade is a diminishing value insurance policy. When you have repaired the phone equal to the value of the policy it is done.

Give then costs of some repairs, I would take Applecare+

You ST policy has a repair limit in dollars. Reach that limit and you have no more coverage.

No, but you can call ST right now and they will tell you.

Ok I was just on the chat with ST for the last 30 mins, I asked almost every possible question. So it sounds like they are the best coverage to go with. They give you 4 claims for either the 2 or 3 year coverage (whichever you choose). There’s no limit on PHONE coverage, only 4 claims at $99 each claim. The only limit is on other devices and the limit is the amount of the device paid.

What they DON’T cover is lost or stolen device and any damage caused by a natural disaster.

With each claim they give you options on what you are allowed to do to get your device repaired. My choice is to go to Apple Genius Bar and have it repaired each time if I ever need to. I like having my device fixed by the people that fix them properly regularly. ST will then reimburse you for the costs you paid.

One thing I didn’t ask is if I break the screen is it $99 or cheaper such as Apple is only $29. There’s a slim chance you can actually break the whole device now a days. I feel like the most common device replacements in the past were water damage, which they are now waterproof up to like 3 ft or something. If you drop it down to 30 feet, you probably LOST your device anyway. Therefore the most common replacement now is probably just the screen. If ST charges $99 deductible to replace the screen which I am sure they will since it’s $279 to replace the front glass from Apple, it may be better to go with AC+ since it’s only $29. May be less in the long run.

I feel like I work there now lol. If anyone has any questions I may have already asked it, maybe I can help. Which coverage y’all going with?

Okay, so what’s the cost diff between SquareTrade and carrier insurance like Verizon which will get me coverage for loss/theft?

I’m not sure. ST is $129 I believe for 2 years, 4 claims a year. You’ll have to check those carrier coverages. I doubt it’s better then ST, I’ve heard nothing good about them. ST does not cover loss or theft.

I want to know this too

You didn’t read the above. There’s No max $ amount, 4 claims a year at $99 each claim.

I know carrier insurance has been undesirable in the past, but I’ve read Verizon’s new plan rivals AppleCare+ now.
