You mock him because he is a responsible owner that doesn't crack his screens or get them wet? I have never broken a screen on any of my iPhones (any phone for that matter). IF the matter is a hardware issue apple WILL replace it for free in the first year. That's the entire point of a bumper to bumper replacement policy such as apple's. I think AC+ is a waste of money but do typically purchase AC near the end of my first year of ownership to expand that hardware replacement policy for the 2nd year. I don't need to talk to anyone on the phone so couldn't care less about phone support for 2 years. He never said Apple will replace it under any circumstance, simply said he has always had a replacement when he needed it. It's cool though, I can appreciate your sarcastic attitude, I'm the same way.

I would agree with you with the exception of one point - as you, I have never damaged my phone in any way (it is out-of-the-box pristine). To put it crudely...s**** happens, and that's why I buy AC. Also, as a relative newbie to all things computing, the phone Tech Support is important to me. My calls pay off the cost of the AC many times over.

That being said, I appreciate your points and agree (excepting the unpredictable possibility of damage, not matter how careful) that for those who are careful, and do not need tech support, it is really a "just in case" decision...which can go either way.

(Please note...a momentary lapse in sarcasm. To resume at the soonest possible moment :D)

Not sure about the screen ($50 or so??) but the bent aluminum won't be fixed, most likely replaced for OOW replacement cost of $229. UNLESS you get a nice genius and they do it for free.

That nice Genius isn't likely to have his job for long if that is a regular pattern for his repairs. There are no more "free out of warranty" courtesy replacements. Those who are getting free replacements out of warranty lately are getting them from employees who are not adhering to company policy. Next time you get a free phone from a Genius; ask them if you can speak to their manager so you can express your appreciation and then take note of the look on that Genius' face.

Does anyone happen to know if AppleCare is international? I'll be straddling two countries, possibly three, over the next two years. If it's only going to be available in the country of purchase, I'll have to choose carefully which regional site I purchase it from.

i am unconvinced as well.

i request the $99

you have my word, i will return :D:D:D:D:D

question... what about squaretrade? it's about $20 cheaper than AC+ and it includes full water submersion protection.

Squaretrade is a diminishing value policy. Each repair or replacement lowers the coverage until you hit zero.

State Farm Insurance

I plan on getting the iPhone 5 around new year off-contract (for use on T-Mobile), and I was informed that my existing renter's insurance would cover smart phones with no deductible under a general electronics section that's already in place for my other devices.

It's only a few dollars a month, and I can't imagine a situation where this would be less desirable than the more expensive and less inclusive insurance offered by Apple. Does anyone have any experience with smart phone coverage on renter's policies?

Every bit of tech I own that can be is Apple. My iMac, iPad, Macbook and Time Capsule all have Apple Care as they will all stay with me for longer than 12 months......And the Apple Care definitely helps them to achieve more than non warrantied items when they're eventually sold on eBay.

However I don't bother with the Apple TVs as they're almost cheap enough to that they can be sold as spares/repairs if they do break, which they don't seem to!

And I don't bother with the iPhones as I upgrade everytime the new phone is out, which is generally within the 12 months anyway!
