In the UK we dont have an AC+ option, just the standard AC which is basically an extended warranty at £61.

I've decided to go with it for my iPhone 5 as I had developed a fault with my mic on my iPhone 4 after 18 months of owning it. Apple wanted to charge my £129 to replace my handset regardless of the fault.

learnt my lesson and I'd rather have the peace of mind knowing any issues in the 2 years and I can walk in and get it sorted with no issues.

No extended warranty is worth it, unless by nature you're a somewhat careless person or someone who just has bad luck.

It is all a matter of opinion...I always get it on my apple equipment (except for Apple TV's iPod shuffle/nano's). Service plans in general while yes, they can be a waste of money if it doesn't break, is also a life saver if does break. My Macbook pro developed an issue after the 1 year warranty. Apple replaced it with a brand new next gen model with the core i7 (up from the core 2). My LCD TV has a bad HDMI port, Best buy replaced the TV right before the plan expired. It is really up to the person. Having worked at CompUSA, I hated selling service plans. I never forced it upon anyone - it was their choice and management hated that about me. Most of the people that got one were people that had a laptop or some other device break, and not want to have to shell out the same money again should they ever have a problem down the road. I will always get it with my stuff, even though my last 2 iPhones never had a problem.

So you paid $100 for Applecare+ and $50 for the replacement... So after eBay fees and PayPal fees you made less than $300. I made $280 with no fees selling my used phone on Gazelle.

I just don't see the value. ($20 is $20 but it was so close that you could have lost money). Its a $100 bet against yourself that is only worth it if you break two phones. If you break one you save $50, if you break two you save $200... So only being a clumsy butterfingers will you get your money's worth.

I didn't have to pay eBay fees cause of a promo and the Apple employee never charged me for the replacement which is weird and really doesn't help my argument because it wont happen again lol but I feel its nice to have some sort of piece of mind whether it be cracking the screen, water damage, w.e. I cant tell you how many times I drive with my phone on my lap and then get out and hear it hit the ground. Luckily it usually doesn't break but if I don't have the apple care I know it will break the first time I do it.

Yes if you break the phone twice then it becomes more worth it but I can't imagine that a reasonably competent person would do that. I have owned every iPhone since the first and have NEVER broken my phone in any way and have never used a case.

In the situation of an incredibly clumsy person who for some reason spends $300 on cases then yes it would be worth it... For most people it isn't.

Unless you're Chuck Norris, any reasonably competent person could drop and shatter their iPhone. Accidents happen...

A few points:

If you plan on keeping your iPhone 5 for two years, Apple Care Plus is worth it, since Apple kept that home button. That seems to have a fairly high likelihood of failure if the phone is used frequently. WITH Apple Care it's a free replacement, assuming it wasn't due to damage (that would be $50 replacement). You are also technically not limited to the number of replacements you can have (at least not officially to my knowledge) while under warranty if the replacements are required due to manufacturer's defect.

If you are prone to dropping your phone (you probably know this by now) I would also say AC+ worth it. Your first replacement will cost $50 (already a savings of $50). Your second replacement will also cost $50 (we are now at a savings total of $200). I am not sure if the plan can be "refreshed" after that, or if it just reverts to a "regular" Apple care plan, in that you still have the extended warranty (protecting against manufacturer's defects), just not the accidental damage coverage).

I purchased it for my 4S, mainly because the night of launch day (iPhone 4) my girlfriend ran the phone through the wash. It is the only phone that I ever broke, and I have never dropped the phone on anything other than carpet. At the end of the day, it's a little bit like any other insurance, with a $50 deductible. The thing that makes it difficult for some is that Apple replaces your broken phone for $200. That's a steal of a deal, and not something that any other manufacturer (to my knowledge) offers. If I were a betting man, I would say their standard replacement policy is actually what eats into their Apple Care + policy the most.

Applecare plus only covers two replacements so did you pay full retail price for the other 4.

And you seem proud of yourself for going through 6 iphones in 7 months. Maybe you should think of why you are so clumbsy instead.

Woa woa calm down do you even know how many iPhones we use? Perhaps not the same person? Perhaps? Its definitely worth it! No hassle

I pre-ordered the iPhone 5 without Applecare.

Bought "AppleCare Protection Plan for iPhone" a day later separately via Apple's online store.. will this be automatically applied to my iPhone?
