Cool. This reminds me; is there a way to make it not ask for my password to download a FREE app?

I'm curious... do customers get different things or does everyone get the same stuff?

I have the same question. If they all got different things, that would be hilarious.

That's awesome! Finally the company gives back to its customers a little.

Seriously? They release the latest version of OSX for free, iWork and iLife for OSX and iOS for free, have a free app of the week, dropped the price on several products, but you're right, finally they give back to their customers.:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Just an FYI, last year in the UK we got:

1. Maroon 5 songs and music video
2. Score! Classic Goals (app)
3. Sherlock - S1E1
4. 'Rachel's Holiday' by Marian Keyes (iBook)
5. Ed Sheeran songs
6. Sonic Jump (app)
7. Toy Story Toons (movies)
8. 'The Pillars of the Earth' by Ken Follett (iBook)
9. The xx songs
10. The Photo Cookbook - Quick & Easy (App)
11. One Direction - Little Things (Video)
12. Snapseed

To give you an idea of what gets offered.

Just out of curiousity, what were the free apps given away last time? I'm not too interested in the free movies and music.

Not everyone on the planet is christian.
It always amuses me that the US is a far more Christian country than the UK, but no one seems to be allowed to say Happy Christmas in public. In the UK this app is called 12 Days of Christmas.

I don't understand why Apple insists on iOS 7, there is probably nothing in that app which requires iOS 7 functionality. I get that Apple wants to push everyone to iOS 7, but can't they at least make some effort to maintain some backwards compatibility where possible? This shows how much Apple thinks of customers that either cannot or do not want to upgrade their devices (iPhone 4 user here). :(

You can still download the free gifts, even if you don't have the app.

So basically you guys wasted your time? Except maroon 5 :)

Obviously the rest of the world isn't as politically correct as the US is. Sigh.

Day 12 Japan: Shark Dash game

This is different to last year - it's always been the 12 days AFTER Christmas that they've given apps/music/tv shows away, not before.

Also, dont get too excited, it's usually pretty crap ;)

Mavericks is a moderate extension of Mountain Lion, so it was in Apple's best interest to make it free. They certainly don't want to share the same fate as Microsoft in that category.. iWork/iLife is free for new product owners, not long-time owners. Everybody with some form of a software marketplace has a free app/game of the week. Finally, generally speaking, Apple drops prices on their products because they dropped their features (namely hardware). Take a look at the 13" rMBP of late. Yes, its price dropped, but so did its memory. In fact, it was halved. Don't be blinded by dollar signs and be afraid to peek behind the curtains of why Apple is so "generous." Otherwise, you're just another fanboy.

It's over the same period this year too, it doesn't start till Christmas, it's just the app is available now.

As for previous year's content, it's not all been quite my cup of tea but there's normally been 2 or 3 "keepers" every year; I guess when they have to keep everyone happy you're going to end up with a mixed bag. It's all free at the end of the day though, so approach it with low expectations and you won't be disappointed!

Haha, nice, in the years before, the app looked quite 'Christmassy'. The new one looks rather satanistic in comparison ;)

In all the years they've been running this I've only gotten one thing I actually enjoyed...but I already owned it.

Still, free is free and it'll be nice for the US customers, I wasn't aware that they weren't included in previous years.

Seems a bit weird to give away presents beyond Christmas and well into january.

But of course it isn't about christmas. It is all about pleasing new owners and teaching them what and where to buy new stuff for iOS.

I guess we're counting down to some random date here then, that just happens to be christmas and mimics the 12 days of christmas tune, but yeah.

Could be random; could be on purpose with Jan 6th; details

Why 12 ? Don't know; but fits to happen the time from Xmas to jan 6th.

Still a nice move from :apple:; I liked last year the free version of Xe
