Nice aesthetic …

I don't understand why Apple insists on iOS 7, there is probably nothing in that app which requires iOS 7 functionality. I get that Apple wants to push everyone to iOS 7, but can't they at least make some effort to maintain some backwards compatibility where possible? This shows how much Apple thinks of customers that either cannot or do not want to upgrade their devices (iPhone 4 user here). :(

Apple isn't really concerned with customers with "outdated" devices. Granted this technology can last so long and most people have no real reason to "upgrade" but it doesn't change the fact that they want everybody to get whats new now, no matter what they have, because Apple believes it will benefit everyone in every way.

Just an FYI, last year in the UK we got:

1. Maroon 5 songs and music video
2. Score! Classic Goals (app)
3. Sherlock - S1E1
4. 'Rachel's Holiday' by Marian Keyes (iBook)
5. Ed Sheeran songs
6. Sonic Jump (app)
7. Toy Story Toons (movies)
8. 'The Pillars of the Earth' by Ken Follett (iBook)
9. The xx songs
10. The Photo Cookbook - Quick & Easy (App)
11. One Direction - Little Things (Video)
12. Snapseed

To give you an idea of what gets offered.

OMG, this look awful

Apple is in a fight to the death with google, over cell phone marketshare and their key advantage is the App Store. The strength of the App Store comes from first to market + popularity with developers.

Watch any keynote since android came out. Tim makes a big point about how few OSs developers need to support. As long as apple can keep up the unification and google can't, iPhone will retain its advantage. So they reinforce OS uniformity, at every opportunity.

I tried downloading the app. Am using iOS 7.0.4. Signed in to my account, went to install, then got a window stating "Verification Required.

I'm running a credit too and got no such message when DLing this app. But I did get that message when DLing the first app after setting up my new ipad. It just means something has changed and apple needs to verify that you are still you.

Why wasn't this available before in the U.S.? Not that I'm complaining. Happy to get stuff from Apple for Christmas. :D

Just out of curiousity, what were the free apps given away last time? I'm not too interested in the free movies and music.

Not everyone on the planet is christian.

The better answer would be: Christmas actually ends on the 25th. And this starts on the 26th.

I guess we're counting down to some random date here then, that just happens to be christmas and mimics the 12 days of christmas tune, but yeah.

My Christian side would prefer Christmas to be used (my reasonable/logical side doesn't care), but we don't want to offend any one with easy access to an attorney, at least not in the newly included US, especially with Apple already busy in the courts over here.:(

Not if it's Christmas for the Armenian Apostolic Church, which is 12 days after Roman Catholic Christmas. Or what testcard said.

I don't think someone can sue a company for making an app with the name "Christmas" in it.

Haha, nice, in the years before, the app looked quite 'Christmassy'. The new one looks rather satanistic in comparison ;)

It's just gold. But a Christmas-themed app would be cooler.

It always amuses me that the US is a far more Christian country than the UK, but no one seems to be allowed to say Happy Christmas in public. In the UK this app is called 12 Days of Christmas.

From the impression I get, people in the UK aren't obsessed with political correctness. Or at least that's what I see on Top Gear (awesome show).

What has Christmas got to do with Christianity?

Shhhhhh.... A lot of people don't know that Jesus didn't declare that his birth should be commemorated...... Just his death.

But it for what it is, this holiday does make people be nice to each other at least.

That's actually a good question in our materialistic world.

Hmm, that common criticism of modern Christmas got me thinking. The material goods that we covet in our material world tend to be products of human ingenuity. I consider that more worthy of celebration than fairy tales.
