Why Justin Timberlake?

I'll tell you a story to explain this:

A few weeks ago Tim Cook sat in his office and crossed off an item on his todo list and read the next: Get presents for Apple Customers. Tim Cook smiled and thought: "Great, that's why i love my job so much. Hm, let's see, what about for some great music for the frist day?" He then opened his adressbook and called the rolling stones. The sum he heard after he'd explained his wish to them let his jaw drop. He quickly said good bye and called the next good musician, and the next and the next.... The sums got lower and lower but still didn't fit into his tiny budget. (With the increasing demands of the shareholders they had to cut the budget down a lot). At one point he even called Miley Cyrus and Justin Bieber, but nope. He finally gave up. There would be no presents for Apple customers this year. That was sad. On his way home he saw a used cd store. Maybe i'll find some inspiration there! He wen't in and asked for the cheapest CD from a well known musician. He got Justin Timberlake. Tim Cook bought it. The next day, he called him. "Sure, use any song you have for free!" JT said. Tim Cook but the CD into his mac, listened it whith closed eyes (counts as working time) and selected the song he liked best and uploaded it to iTunes. Now that present fit into his budget; he only had paid $0.50 for the JT-CD. That was the sort of presents he liked.

Cook but the CD into his mac

I might have beliebed your story until I read this bit. Do you really think "TC", the CEO of Apple, has a Mac so old that it can still play CDs?! Not likely!

Personally I don't believe there's any way the TIMBERSNAKE would have given his music away to iTubes for free. He's amazing and dreamy and one of the most talented artists around right now!

iTubes and Apple would have paid nothing less than top dollar for his work, I'm sure of it!

Oh wow, some of you are so entitled aren't you! You know that Justin Timberlake, like him or not, is a giant megastar, so the fact they are giving away this sort of content is very nice for a LOT of people.

In the end if you don't enjoy anything they offer, then don't download it!

I remember a couple of years ago, iTunes 12 days of Christmas gave away the Father Ted Christmas episode, and 'Knowing Me Knowing Yule' (Alan Partridge) in the UK.
Those were some quality gifts!

I think it's a bit more internationalised (so American) now, so maybe not so relevant or good, fingers crossed though!

Is there no way of knowing what the daily gifts are without the app this year?

In the past there was an icon on the front page of the iTunes store that took you straight to that day's gift. The only thing I can see now is a link to the iOS 7 app.

I would try the front page of MacRumors. It's that time of the year where they are scraping the bottom of the barrel for both rumors and news.

I got my download a few minutes after midnight.
JT wouldn’t be my first choice in music, but I figured it was FREE, I’d give it a try.

I downloaded and listened, granted this is a Live version and I should have know, but what I did hear wasn’t the best musically. I’ll probably be deleting them but figured they’d be in my purchased history in case I ever want to listen again.

Would be nice if we could pick our own gift. Now that would be cool. I for one would not choose JT.

It's very likely that some of the complainers are probably the same people who prefer watching senior citizens like Madonna and the Rolling Stones over someone like Beyonce at halftime of the Super Bowl.

Nobody is forcing you to download the or download the free content.
Matter of fact Apple doesn't need to offer you or anyone anything in any way shape or form.

Don't want it don't download it.

We are not just complaining that we don't want it, it's that we want something else. This gift sucks. Apple's not obliged to give us anything, but if they're giving anything, it should at least be a good item.

If they're giving away sucky items like this, they might as well not give anything at all.
