A thinner than MBP laptop would also mean no Ethernet port right?

From looking at my MBP's ports, it seems that the Ethernet port is the biggest port, and seems to be responsible for keeping the MB at its current thickness (apart from optical disc and HDD).

Edit: woops, sorry folks, meant optical disc, not blu-ray.. haha

I think March 2012 should be for iPad 3...

Release MBA 15 inch with IVY bridge or apple will FAIL!!!

No more IVY bridge and no more outdated processors.

huh?

Aside from Ethernet, they NEED to put the optical audio out back into the 3.5mm socket, paying 15" money and getting no digital audio isn't going to fly.

That's a massive problem in the airs that you need a USB DAC or sound card to get acceptable audio out.

I know it makes too much sense for Apple but what about:
11.6" air gets a new 13" screen in current form factor (minimal bezel)
13.3" air gets 15" screen in current form factor.

$999 & 1299 price-points. Entire market cornered (small, portable machine and bigger, more powerful machine).

There's absolutely no reason the 11.6" can't have a bigger screen, it's just that they want people to spend 30% more for the bigger screen even if people don't give a crap about the better specs (I don't).

This way they'd only have 2 air models, so I think that would be even more apple-like than having 3 air models and 3 macbook pro models.

Ideally they'd axe the "air" name and just use macbook, and the pro would be a different animal.

This doesn't make sense at all. I think the part you don't get, is that many people like having the small form factor. People aren't buying the 11" because they're cheaper, they're buying it because they are awesome. Which is exactly why people are buying an ultra book in the first place.

Not all of us have the "disease of more" or drive an SUV...

Blu-ray MB??? ............got some bad news for you bro

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPod; CPU iPhone OS 5_0 like Mac OS X) AppleWebKit/534.46 (KHTML, like Gecko) Mobile/9A334)

I'm hoping for a 1080p screen as default, or at least as an option. I have a current 15" MBP and game a lot, so a resolution upgrade would be nice :)

Sony VAIO-Z has Ethernet port (and even VGA):

Currently selling my 2009 15"er to help pay for this hypothetical new one. Hopefully the rumour is true. I am so close to getting a 13" Air but I know I won't be satisfied with the smaller screen.

You are probably young enough that you don't consider burning DVDs with irreplaceable family photos.

Photos can be backed up in online storage or in removable hard drive, no need for a superdrive for this...

Since SSD prices are still very high, and Apple is aware that pros want high storage capacity (500-750 GB), why not use a HDD/(blade) SSD combo, as they do in the iMac and Mac mini? Seems like the best of both worlds to me.

I think the iMac uses standard SATA, or some Apple proprietary SATA connection for SSD rather than SSD blade which uses PCI connection. Only MacBook Airs use SSD blade.

I'd love a new 13" MacBook something with the best of an Air and Pro.

From the Air I would like:

More affordable SSD
(adding it via apple.com to a MBP makes the price go way up, and adding it separately apparently eliminates TRIM support, I've been told)

Slightly thinner design
(but cooling is still important)

No optical drive!
(I have a SL disc stuck in mine now, it got stuck the first time I used the drive, but I don't use the optical drive anyways now so I never got it fixed, lol)

Higher screen resolution

From the Pro I would like:

The Pro's faster processors

4 GB RAM minimum standard

The glossy screen with black border (I know most probably disagree with me on that, but I like the black look, and the glass is easy to clean)

The Pro's higher screen quality

Finally i sold my macbook air rev A and i bought a 11" macbook air yesterday, 1,6/4/128ssd, i was impressed with the speed, the power, the design is a work of art, a masterpiece.

The 11 and the 13 are blazing fast, i believe the 15" air models, will be sky high in performance and battery life.

can't wait to get my hands on one.:p

I haven't had a single moment of regret after selling my 15" MBP and buying a 13" MBA. I'd have a hard time going back to a 15" form-factor, even if it was a 15" MBA.

Or brushed black aluminum.

Not again.
You've said that before, not going to happen.

Assuming it true (big assumption) this either has to be an extension of the Air line or if it's a revamped MBP it must be no compromises and boast a full array of ports, not just TB and USB. I don't care about optical or HDD, but I need the ports and to be dongle-free or it's not "pro."

Don't start again, we know what YOU want but is that what others want?
If Apple doesn't go forward then where do we end up?
Although I understand that there are still quite a few people around here that need those ports I think there are more and more people which don't need them and settle with USB and thunderbolt.
Would I like plenty of ports?, yes but I also recognize that for technology to go forward Apple needs to get rid of old technology like optical drives for instance.

Umm..no thanks. Id take windows 8 reasonably priced laptop over this garbage. Tim Cook, you are the beginning of the end! Watch out for Wild Bill. I cant wait to see windows 8 own this, completely. This will be I bet 2 grand! Rip apple, 2k7-2k11

With reasonably garbage screen?
With reasonably garbage keyboard, trackpad?
With reasonably garbage chassis material?
With reasonably garbage camera?

Well .. suit yourself .. I'd install Windows 8 on this new Macbook Air just to piss you off, cheers :D

If minidisplay was anything... Apple could just give us another reason to buy another dongle.

MiniEthernet anyone?

You didn't even read my post.

You can fit a 13.0" screen on the current Macbook Air, most likely. If not you'd have it increase its size by a TINY percentage. They put a bezel around it so if people wanted a bigger screen they would buy a more expensive computer(the 13.3").

I personally like the form-factor of the 11, it's perfect. Why can't they fit a 13" screen in there? It's certainly possible.

If they do that, then the 13" can dissapear and be replaced by a 15".

Low end model, High end model. Simple.

Absolutely nobody in the entire world prefers a 11.6" with a huge bezel to a 13.0" with no bezel. Look at the current trends in consumer TVs (Samsung).

Everyone wins, except your wallet.

The current MBP line was designed in stone age, it's bulky and heavy by today's standard.

An ultra-thin 15" MacBook doesn't need to be as thin as the Air, just make it slimmer and lighter, will be enough to make me buy one!

1. Thinner design would be sweet
2. SSD would be cool
3. I hope they would keep ethernet. I use it in my dorm room because of spotty wifi, and dont want to buy an adapter.
4. USB 3.0
5. I hope they keep an optical drive, maybe blu-ray support.

I don't like the look of this. Who wants to bet that the SSD is soldered straight on to the logic board?

Ok, you use a winblows pc that doesn't work and we will use Macs that do!

:apple:

Sadly, this is no longer true.

Lion is the one that doesn't quite work, and when's the last time you've used "Winblows"? Ever tried Winblows 7? Gives Lion a real run for its money.

Define pro.

Business pro's would fit this fine. Same with web designers, engineers, writers, etc.

Pro is a much wider field than the graph ad movie guys.

All the more unlikely. Which business is Apple going to sell all these "pro" laptops to? Some business in your mom's basement that runs off a Mac Mini "server"?
