But the benchmarks show its X times faster!!! Real time use ...user cannot tell the difference ....

I could tell the difference between a 6s and my 6... the battery goes dead faster on the 6s under normal use.

They make it 1mm thinner and I'll definitely need to make it at least 2x as thick with an external battery to make it last a day.

I'm genuinely curious how many people will abandon the iPhone due to this knuckleheaded move.
Or who, like me are just going to get a 6+ and milk it for as long as possible.
I actually need the headphone jack for multiple reasons.
  • to listen to music through good earphones like Grado, AKG, Shure.
  • to route audio out to test things in my studio (very handy!).
  • to test things I'm going to buy from some Craigslist creepo.
  • to connect to a mixer or amp and use as a Synth with a class compliant keyboard attached via Lightning>camera connect adapter.
And I am not really that worried about how thin my phone is.
It's going in an Otterbox as soon as I buy it. So who cares about another mm thinner?
Ive needs to see a therapist.
Cook needs to develop a backbone or step aside and let someone with leadership take over the company.

the removal of the headphone jack, information that has been confirmed in a new report from
The Wall Street Journal.

The Wall Street Journal's report confirms the removal of the headphone jack in the next-generation iPhone

Another article, another false claim from MacRumors.

The Wall Street Journal piece does not confirm anything. It is just another rumor.

The article even spells it out "headphone plug likely to disappear".

How does MacRumors still not know the difference between rumors and facts?

hope wireless earbuds are included...only way they'll be able to save face if they're killing the option to listen and charge at the same time.

There will obviously be some sort of adapter that will allow these two activities simultaneously.

Now if only they would use that extra space for battery but this is apple. Ill probably grab a 6s or SE. I really hope they announce a additional storage tier to SE in SEptember. Then ill milk that for as long as I can.

I'm waiting till this coming iPhone to make up my mind. I'm currently happy with my 6. If the 7 is a minor spec bump and still has "the same battery life", I'll be getting an SE or maybe a 6S (my current battery cases should work with it).

After that, Apple will need to double the battery life with no other sacrifice to performance/features, before the SE or 6S dies, or I'll jump to android (or the first smart phone with USB-C, fast charging, and wireless charging). If I can go from 45% to 70-90% in 5-7 minutes, I'll be quite happy with anything.

:apple: doesn't celebrate stuff, unless you count the 25th Anniversary Mac & what a seller that was, it's all the SJ mantra of looking forward & not back, seriously who makes this stuff up!? As for the headline, sounds like mince, it'll have a faster processor, better 3D depth camera, thinner etc. & all the other stuff u get you usually get in an upgrade, if anything I suspect the biggest changes next year will be :apple: smart sim across the board with the removal of the sim slot so a phone contract can play nicer with the watch, altho afaik they hit a brick wall with the GSM alliance about a sim removal. If the headphone jack is removed this year then I guess I'll pass, see how it develops, maybe invest in an :apple:Watch 2 as an upgrade, but be rest assured for all us that say they wont buy it plenty will & they break all records all over again etc etc etc....

So the only thing anyone here cares about is a redesign for the sake of a redesign?

Seems that way. Funny because people complain "Apple is a fashion company these days..".

The new iPhone might have significantly improved connectivity/processor/camera/battery life but a few rumours about it not having shiny new design and everybody loses their sh*t.

I know there are profits and shareholders to appease but at this rate, but at this rate why bother with a late 2016 update if the real changes aren't coming until 2017?
How would they then incorporate the Apple iPhone Yearly Upgrade Program?

iMac
MacBook Pro
MacBook
Mac Pro
iPod

Majority of them . My point is that they have not made an annivesary model, and yet you are saying next years iPhone will be an anniversary model, hence I am saying its out of character . Just as likely they are moving to a three year cycle, That's all.

In addition, the Macintosh name is over 30 years old. I remember people thinking there was going to be a 20th anniversary Mac in 2004 but Steve just wasn't a nostalgic kind of a guy.

Apple is going to defer major updates till next year because of the 10 year anniversary, who give a f**k; we want updates yesterday if possible.

Steve was a forward thinker, I doubt it made sense to him to celebrate old technology. Apple currently is a profit margin machine riding on the back of that work.

OK, as the phone provider for the entire family I say this;

1- Removing the headphone Jack abandons $1,200 worth of Bose noise cancelling headphones, don't talk to me about stupid adapters, We want to listen and charge at the same time. We have Podcasters who like external Mics, that would be abandoned, I have other tools like wind meters that would be useless.

2- We put two of our phones on Apples new pay plan, pay monthly for 2 years, get a new phone after year 1. This means that we are now likely skip the new phone and that just seems convenient for Apple. For now, no further phones will be put on Apple plans.

3- For the first time I'm researching leaving Apple for all of our phones. Innovation, yeah, right.
Maybe they'll sell a splitter for $29.99? :)
