In addition, the Macintosh name is over 30 years old. I remember people thinking there was going to be a 20th anniversary Mac in 2004 but Steve just wasn't a nostalgic kind of a guy.

Yeah i remember that. I'm not buying an anniversary model. This is Apple pushing 3 year cycles, And this is the test case.

So the only thing anyone here cares about is a redesign for the sake of a redesign?

No, that's just the way it looks in the eyes of people who think Apple can do no wrong. And for those people, explaining any grievance is a futile experiment, so it's best to just let them think what they think and cry about the fact not everyone is an Apple sheep.

It's usually the S variation that doesn't deviate from the design of its predecessor. So how are they going to release iPhone 7 this year then a completely new design next year?!

What other products have turned 10? The iPod? Come on, what's the point in creating a brand new iPod when it's embedded into the phone now.

The original MacBook was 10 in May and it seems they are a little behind schedule with new new Pro's which will feature the OLED bar etc.

Modern pencil design is a few centuries over 10 years... :D

Will they even call it iPhone 7? Or will it be iPhone 6s2 or something?

Why not just skip releasing a phone this fall (they already released SE this year) and release anniversary phone in June of 2017?

Plot twist: iPhone 7 will be massive redesign and awesome in every way, but all this is planted by Apple to lower the expectations and blow us away in September ! (Sure hope so..)

I was looking to upgrade to the 7 from my 6 plus. I skipped the 6s because of the identical design. If this is true then I rather wait another year for a complete redesign. I bet they will drop the S models or rename it to something else.

If this is being planted by Apple, it's a huge mistake. The Samsung S7 was just released and is doing well, plus the Samsung Note 7 is being released on August 7th and is expected to tempt a lot of users.

I wonder what this will do for upgrade cycles… will the 6s resale value be higher? Will the 6 resale value drop significantly?

Also, idk how I feel about headphone jack removal. It depends on how they implement it I guess. I've never used anything other than the included EarPods with my iPhone so I guess I'm okay if they still provide a way to use EarPods.

I have an idea. If they remove the battery completely, they could make the phone much thiner. Can't innovate my ass.
seems like a good idea, we already have external battery power banks :p

Guess i'll be waiting another year for an upgrade on my 6+

You'll want to be very, very careful with this unsolicited stock buying rationale.

It's not like Apple is a risky penny stock. I think my rationale was very sound. Weak iPhone sales caused apple to dip below $100 for the first time in awhile. Looks like weak iphone sales will continue with this minor update as well, which should continue to put downward pressure on the stock. Hence my assessment that for the next 8 months at least Apple should be a good buy. From all indications, the iphone 8 in 2017 will be a HUGE radical update. So it stands to reason that sales should be turn around at that point for the iPhone. Nothing is for certain when it comes to the market, but I think this is very sound advice non the less. Not telling anyone to buy. Just putting it out there. People can make up their own minds.

Do people really want a thinner phone that's more water resistant and that doesn't have a 3.5mm headphone port?

Most people want longer battery life.

faster processor and graphics
faster lte chip
better camera
bluetooth 5 (?)
32gb base storage
else we don't know yet.

but tech specs are for android folks, apple folks just want a redesign -_-

btw: it will take so much persuasion to convince me to buy a phone without a 3.5mm jack, let's see what they'll come up with.

all of those points will lead to "... but it looks the same ... " in an every day conversation

Are those not the people complaining. "Oh, it'll look the same, so I' don't want it."

Technology has advanced enough to put a higher resolution screen on this thing, shrink the ridiculous bezels and other things most other companies already have in place on their phones for more than a year.

Anyone considering trying android. I have a 6s and I was planning on uograding but if it's going to stay fairly similar, then I wouldn't mind trying android for a year and then switch back to iPhone in 2017. What do you think ? Any suggestions?

This is coasting mode until parts are ready for the 2017 model. It's a HUGE gamble. They are rolling the dice and seeing if casual Apple/iOS fans will either sit on their 6, 6s or get the 7 before the iPhone 8 and not switch over to whatever more advanced Android offerings are out there in late 2016/2017.

The advertisements will spin this like they did for the 6s "Nothing has Changed except Everything" and try to make you, the consumer, look dumb in a clever, coy little jab. Hopefully making you think wait, maybe the 7 is amazing!
