Dear iPhone 8 / SE users: I dare you to resist upgrading to the 5.4"...
I have the new SE and I will definitely not be able to resist that 5.4". Need to hold it in my hand first, but I guarantee that I will have it. I still get sad when I see my old SE lying around. Anything to get back towards that size device.

I hope the 5.4" isn't positioned as a cheaper "C" or "XR" model, but more along the lines of the iPod Nano/Mini that were considered good for being smaller. Or the iPad Mini, which is smaller but has a higher pixel-density screen.

Knowing my luck it will be, continuing my streak of buying the "redheaded stepchild" iPhone.

I must be honest I did think it was unusual to not have any factory leaks this time of year. Normally they start being mass produced June time and then all the leaks come flying out but we’re at end of July and nothing.

I think this also points to a delay.

The 5.4” for many months is known to be mid-tier.

5.4 mid-tier 2 camera OLED no mmWave
6.1 mid/flag
6.7 flagship 3 camera + ToF sensor

That’s not that bad actually. About a month delay or so, sounds like they’ve been working around the clock to get it out sooner than later

there’s so much that goes into a phone lunch that even small delays can mess up the whole chain

I expected it to be longer given the work shortages they experienced, but late October would be a pleasant surprise for this year

There’s a global pandemic, and people are complaining about getting their iPhone a month later than most past years? I‘d also like to remind people that we’ve had many October iPhone launches before, so this shouldn’t be a huge surprise.

How many times is MR going to recycle the same rumor?

from different sources

they’re not recycling they’re just reporting on every rumour, and lots of sources have said late Oct/early Nov is time frame for this year.

Understandable given the pandemic.

Just did a quick search in the search bar for delays. The first page netted me 7 articles that are basically the same piece. What is the fascination with this article?

The smartest thing Apple could do with their new Flagship iPhones would be to enable support for 10-bit Color Capture in both of the Pro models, both with AVCapturePhotoOutput AND with AVCaptureVideoDataOutput !

It's something that AAPL should have begun supporting shortly AFTER March 2016, when they (first) added Display P3 support to one of their iPad Pro models !

It's now 4+ years later, & still NO movement, RUMOR or otherwise, on that front !

Perhaps this time the wait is over !

That's BGR10A2, where the 2 bits of Alpha are used simply for 32-bit alignment purposes.

Have said it before, will say it again, AAPL has done well primarily because of a lack of competition from ANY other American company !

Europeans won't work 65 hours per week, & the Asian culture prevents aggressive risk taking in Business.

I don’t believe it. iPhone is one thing that Apple rarely, if ever, delays. Perhaps there will be a staggered launch but no iPhones until late October? Not buying it.

you are aware that there’s been a historic global pandemic that has greatly impacted every business around the world?

and that a phone development cycles doesn’t take place in a month or a year but takes 2-3 years of planning from conception to orders to testing to supply chain to production? And that there are an incredible number of complexities involved? If anything disrupts that chain significantly then the delays will follow.

and that other companies that were launching phones in June/July have had to delay their products to the fall?

this is actually reassuring news as best case scenario would have been late October...and Apple is seemingly going to meet that

we know Apple is about a month behind their normal annual schedule right now, so a month delay makes sense...

Are they?

See below, and they will continue to roll in. Trust me, this isn't the first thread there's been about a potentially delayed release date.

WOW! This is very sad :(

I thought Apple was working very hard to avoid any delays issues.

Ughhhhh.

Figures that the year I finally replace my almost four-year old device is the year where I gotta wait it out. My battery is trashed and I was hoping I could make it to September without dropping $50 into a device I'll be ditching in a few months, but making it to the end of October is gonna sting just that much more.
Am I the only one that’s going to be very unhappy making a 13th or maybe even 14th payment on my phone they better have plans for those of us loyal followers on their upgrade program.....

Im fine with waiting a few more months. Hell if its October-November..i might just hold off till after the holidays and then trade in my current 11 pro max. The only thing I'm really looking forward to in this years iphone is the LIDAR stuff anyways. If i can get good Augmented reality on my Iphone thats useful then thats what i want.. USB C and 120HZ and all that stuff everyone wants aint coming in this years phone, nor is it a big deal to me. Its nice to have, dont get me wrong, but its not a must have for me!

It'll be interesting to see what happens. Meanwhile, I'm sitting here with my credit card waiting for news about the next iPad generation.

It's all just rumours and speculation at this point, but this year we've seen delays and cancellations of events that haven't seen such disruption in decades! The frickin' Olympic Games got postponed. School years ended months early. etc.! It's really silly to assume that iPhones are the one thing in the world that can't possibly be affected.
