I wouldn’t mind an iPhone 12 Pro Max without 5G in exchange for a slightly lower price tbh. By the time 5G will be rolled out nationwide, the iPhone 14 will probably be released here 😅 also the damn data caps are making it pretty useless anyway. What am I gonna do with 10 GB per month over LTE? Just blow through it even faster

I would not mind that either. I know everyone is pretty excited for 5G, but for ME, 5G does absolutely nothing. At least where I live, my AT&T data speed is excellent. Not once have I ever encountered a situation where I thought "wow, I could use more speed". Everything that I want to do on my iPhone while I'm out and about I can do without current non 5G internet speeds slowing me down at all.

My only complaint with data plans are caps and prices. And trust me, Verizon and AT&T are dying to charge premium for it (or increase prices across the board).

The sad reality is that most consumers in the US excited for 5G and obsessing over iPhone display resolutions don't even realize that the majority of plans limit the streaming resolution to SD unless they pay for higher cost plans.

I kinda don’t know what to be excited for as an iPhone XS Max user. So like wow the phone looks like the iPhone 5 I used to have with square edges? Cool I guess. Gonna have a marginally better camera? Cool I guess. 5g? I don’t even use the speeds I get with 4g.

Not trying to crap on it before it even comes, but phones have gotten so damn good it’s hard to really convince myself what I have isn’t good enough to the point I should spend $1200 during a pandemic

Am I the only one that’s going to be very unhappy making a 13th or maybe even 14th payment on my phone they better have plans for those of us loyal followers on their upgrade program.....
If you have to pay extra, that isn’t Apple’s fault. You agreed to the terms. And for there is nothing in the terms denoting Apple has to release any phone a a specific date, so that you don’t have to pay a 13th payment.

There’s a global pandemic, and people are complaining about getting their iPhone a month later than most past years? I‘d also like to remind people that we’ve had many October iPhone launches before, so this shouldn’t be a huge surprise.
In reality, if Apple just said “screw it. With everything going on, we’re not releasing a new iPhone this year” everybody would be just fine

Yes, I would get the SE (which I’d keep until maybe 2025) if I really to buy needed a new iPhone. Otherwise I’d keep my 6s another year and see what the 2021 lineup is like.
Makes sense. Or you could just get a current 11 Pro to hold you off. These devices are so powerful already that annual, maybe even bi annual upgrades are almost superfluous, to me at least.

I am concerned with the OLED setup on these new iPhones however, burn in is a very real problem that shortens the life of a device (without having to take it in for a screen replacement at least).

My Note8 has severe burn-in from using Waze all the time, so I'd also get an 11/Pro until software upgrades rendered it unusable.

If you're using the phone for 13 or 14 months, you should pay for them. Where you might run into an issue is if they go back to a September release in 2021, and you've only made 10 or 11 payments on your 2020 model.

You’re missing my point. The program is benifical because it’s a garunteed 50% trade in at 12 payments. A 512gb iPhone doesn’t lose $120 in value in two months.

This past year I got an offer for my old phone over 50% so I bought this phone on a new upgrade program contract thinking super easy to pay off the old phone. Nope two months calling Citizens One and Apple requesting to pay off the device. It was a royal pain. Apple benefits from the program they wouldn’t offer it out of the goodness of their heart. There is no way I’m going to eat 120 in extra payments. I’ll pay off the device and fight with them again. But I’m not joining the program unless it works. Stop trying to say it’s just a loan Apple’s whole pitch was to make it easier if you get a new phone each year. If anything it’s been a bigger pain because of things like this.

I can be annoyed. I can also go back to buying my devices outright and selling them each year. I’ll probably make more and Apple gets zero benefit. It might be less work at this point compared to the “convenience” of the upgrade program.

It's all just rumours and speculation at this point, but this year we've seen delays and cancellations of events that haven't seen such disruption in decades! The frickin' Olympic Games got postponed. School years ended months early. etc.! It's really silly to assume that iPhones are the one thing in the world that can't possibly be affected.

...the Hajj pilgrimage in Mecca has been cancelled for most, for only the third time in 1300 years....

Okay... but you’re on a rumors site, so this speculation is normal!

Even encouraged. It's late July before an iPhone announcement which has been held in September for several years. People are skittish.

Knowing my luck it will be, continuing my streak of buying the "redheaded stepchild" iPhone.

Redheaded stepchildren unite! Roll on the 5.4, my next phone.

Think I'll order the red.

iPhone X launched in November back in 2017.

Who cares when it launches anyway? What’s the big deal if it’s September or later?

I was waiting for this one. This is the one valid complaint I can think of. Maybe they should just take the extra payments and apply them to the new iPhone since the opposite will happen if the next one releases normal in September.

I recall one year, missing my preorder alarm and completing my request a mere 7-minutes late. I want to say I saw ship dates slip to something crazy like January. Maybe? I could be misremembering. Regardless, Oct. is nothing. And... It's just a phone. It's not a vaccine.
Yea I remember that year was another where people were having issues with the iUP since they were paying 13 14 15... payments until they got the new device so they were wasted since they only needed 12 to upgrade

Exactly there's a difference between voluntarily holding on the old device vs having nothing to step up to. And I never knew it was such a pain to pay the phone off. Maybe it's better just going with the carrier installments. Has always been easy to pay a phone off there. And yea not only do you waste payments waiting, you have to pay extra payments later if you want to upgrade on time if it is on time again.
