I suspect white bezels with no notch or black bezels with notch. I suspect white bezels more likely.

I suspect the new design Air will likely replace the current 13in. Pro while keeping the current 13in. Air as the entry model, much like old Air silver was kept around even after the 2018 Air was introduced.

As a 2021 16.2" owner I refuse to buy this Air unless its the weight and size of the 12" Macbook. I loved that MacBook. OK fine it can be 2.5 lbs but has to be the size of the 12". Air size is too big for true portable. I don't need it right now but I want it. I just don't want an Air.
I know what you’re saying, I’d buy an M1 12” MacBook in a heartbeat!

,an If they can keep the price down or the increase to a minimum, say $100, this thing will be a massive hit building on the popularity of the current MacBook Air. The M1 turned the Air into a genuinely serious computer no matter what it looks like. It’s all very well to say this isn’t quite as good as the Pro, but that obscures the fact the M1 Air is a better machine than most if not everything else out there in this class.

I’d like them to keep the Air moniker as it has recognition. Keeping it thin precludes adding bulky legacy ports like HDMI, but bringing back the SD Card slot would be nice.

I really would rather see the next Air as a 14in. With ever thiner bezels 13 is too small given pretty everything else on the market is now 14in.
But every 14” ISN’T outfitted with an M1 Chip and only Apples 13” MBA and MBP are!

I'm starting to doubt white bezels AND a notch. Either the bezels are white with no notch or they're black with a notch like the new 14" & 16" MacBook Pros.
I understand your thinking. You have some good taste. Unfortunately, Apple industrial designers these days have bad taste. Therefore, I wouldn’t be surprised if there really are white bezels with a notch.

Wasn't the idea of Apple's own M chips that progress won't be held back by Intel? Well it's a year already and we don't have M2 Macbook Air yet. If Apple can release new iphone every year why can't they release an updated Macbook Air with a new chip?

MacBook & MacBook Pro.
If Apple is going back to colourful Macs for consumers then makes sense to drop the Air naming and just call it MacBook that way keeping the MacBook Air M1 will make sense at a lower price and they can up the MacBook to £1000+

We assume these (Macbook Airs) are coming out late next year? What about a revision to the 13inch MBP - that one is over due, especially because of the now dead touchbar. Wonder when that will get a revision or if it will just get the axe.

Apple is just a business, they can't do perfect MBA (surely they know and are capable of doing it), they just have to sell new macbooks as "improvement". I think they are perfectly aware that going away from wedge and adding notch is against ergonomy, but they also know it opens possibility to sell new MBA in 2024/2025. I'm using computer 12-15h per day and I don't think there is anything better than 2020 MBA (M1). New macbooks are big disappointment for me.

No, the Air that Apple is selling now, which was released a year ago, does have the current-generation chip, which is the M1 generation, and comes in M1, M1 Pro, and M1 Max variants. The M2 generation has not yet been released.

I've not heard anyone refer to the new M2 Air the article is discussing as the Air Pro (except in jest). The Air is not intended to have the Pro designation.
I know it's difficult to keep track, but the base M1 in the Air is no longer a current-generation chip, the M1X we see in the new Pro is now the current generation.

I guess the lack of a MacBook Air Pro means we will never see a Touch Bar on the Air.

“Let’s replace all of the metal for a cheap, yellowing, white plastic that can crack!” said no one ever.

I hope they make a Space Gray version with a black keyboard and bezels... for adults. With taste. Or will that be a MacBook Air Pro and come with a $200 premium just for the color option and 1 extra GPU core?
