I still call BS on the nearly 100% price increase. I know we all grumble at price increases from Apple… but double? That would be insane. For what? A slightly improved screen? The current mini LED screens are amazing. This rumor makes no sense.
Unless they’re planning an additional iPad line, something like an iPad ‘Ultra,’ with this new double-layer OLED, super brightness, better HDR, extended longevity, etc, and perhaps a larger screen size. This is just a theory, if the price increase rumor were true, I think it would be for a new model/edition. Personally, I love the Mini-LED 12.9 iPad Pro, I think the screen is gorgeous. I just wish they had brought it to the 11” model.

And this is exactly why I will be patiently waiting for OLED to trickle down to iPad Air.

Besides, Samsung have been using OLED panels in their tablets for quite a while now. Their current Super AMOLED models are not as expensive either:

The above AMOLEDs are not the ones using that new rumoured double-layer tech, obviously, but still way better than anything currently offered by Apple. So, IMO, Apple could have easily used this already existing tech and then gradually improved it over time, as production costs go down. Instead they seem to have chosen to hyper-jump their screen quality from 1 to, say, 7 out of 10, skipping other numbers in between. 🤷🏻‍♂️
Nah, they’re still Android tablets, which by default makes them way worse than any iPad.

Yes, the screens alone sound great. But everything else about them will be Samsung software ‘quality.’ I also think that part of the reason these are so affordable (aside from running Android) is that they’re ambassadorial products meant to showcase Samsung OLED at these screen sizes—Samsung does not sell many tablets outside of S Korea. So they can afford to sell them at little to no profit margin (it’s just marketing).

This is not relevant, as we are not discussing Apple vs Android here. We are talking about prices for the tech. I used that Samsung example to illustrate that AMOLED panels on tablets are not new and that one of the best screen makers (Samsung) offer similar sized tablets for the prices Apple charge for some of their LCD tablets. So purely a hardware comparison. What they then load them with software-wise is another question.

Big up to the MR editor that wrote the headline "All the rumors so far" instead of the annoyingly inaccurate "here's what we know" that we've been getting recently 👌

2025? I used to be a big fan of apple, but their products are falling so far behind the competition it’s crazy. Asus has way better OLED products already and it’s 2023. I was in Best Buy today looking at the laptops and there are plenty of laptops that surpass apples look now.

I feel like apple is on borrowed time. Nothing they have is that cool anymore.

Neither ia obvious competitors astroturfing.

Is there a difference in OLED as used by Apple vs others (e.g. Samsung)?
Yeah, I don't see why moving to OLED would justify any kind of price increase; OLED TVs are nearly the same price as other types and not at a huge premium like they used to be. Small screens should be more so since they've been in small devices like phones for quite some time.

Can you please stop using the phrase "as soon as" when it's not even close in time?

In 2027, Apple will release a brand spanking new, next generation iPad Pro, with micro-LED screen, and still lacking full blown apps, file system, etc.
I suspect that the lack of a common user accesible filesustem, will be irelevant to a lot of folks by that time. Sadly we are moving into a world where all data pelongs with an app in it's own sandbox, the possible exception might be files on external media. for most people the file system is something very abstract , they mostly put files wherever the os an/or app defaults to anyway, and who cares where the installer x stupps the files as long as things work. We here on MR are probablu a very small( and shrinking) minority, we know that there are thing ouside the default locations (at least on osx and windows/linux) some of us even remember the time before "the cloud"

you lucky. Here, the base 11” costs nearly €1100, so I expect the precious OLED will start from €1900. As far as the 12.9 goes, right now the base model can be had for €1350, the projected OLED price should be €2300. A truly luxurious item. Good luck to the 5 people who will actually buy it - to watch their favourite tv shows with deep blacks and high contrast.
*Ouch* yah that does hurt. Not quite apples to apples though, as your €1100 includes VAT (I think ~25% depending on your country), whereas the US$799 price is pre-tax. So pre-VAT cost is really €880.

Double-ouch though that if I recall, when the iPad Pros came out in Fall 2022, the Euro had weakened significantly against the USD, and was actually weaker. Which caused Apple to price the iPP at €880 vs $799 (implied FX of ~1.10)... whereas today, the Euro has strengthened closer to the norm (~0.93 now)... If Apple released a new iPad Pro today, I would assume the base model would be closer to ~€749 pre-tax, or ~€935...

If you want that simply buy a M2 MBA. Otherwise iPadOS is too entrenched, and locked down to how it works, never mind stage manger. ;)
For sure. Mangers are for those who can’t even afford beds. Locked down by pricing up… and up… sad that a full laptop will be cheaper than a tablet with a semi-disposable display.

Apple used to buy premium OLED panels from Samsung & LG and requesting a specific calibration to their own spec.
but recently it was reported they switched to cheaper OLED panels made by Chinese company BOE (for iPHONE 15 series) to save manufacturing cost and even higher margin.

As far as the tablets are concerned the difference is huge. Samsung has been using OLED for about a decade and Apple still can't produce an OLED tablet.
they could (because they outsource panels) but they kept it for now so they could have a reason to charge even more.

Name checks out…. You seem invested. Are you a Tim shareholder? Or emotionally attached?
Not at all. Your posts are the same and out of scope. What are you contributing with regarding choice of OLEDs, screen sizes and Mx SoCs?

My name was chosen to irritate the Mac Pro community. In fact, I use Macs more than iPads but each have their specific use cases both professionally and privately. MacOS on iPad would just be a poor choice for what I use iPads for.

1500? No way. Unless it's a convertible, there is likely almost no one looking to spend 1500 on an 11" iPad pro, regardless of screen tech. That has to be a joke.

It's so nice, we just had to double the price

I can't say I'd never buy one but I'll certainly hold off for as long as I can. I just bought an M1 11 inch iPad Pro 6 months ago and I plan on keeping that one for at least 4-5 years.

Most Apple rumors these days make no sense. I also cannot see Apple switching to OLED when mini LED is so good, if the price would go up like that. They already have a bit of a challenge selling iPads for the current prices.

All these rumors are so ridiculous, people predicting what Apple is going to do 2 years from now, with no real evidence... when they really don't know anything more than we do, and are just guessing. The only kind of rumors you can trust are the ones that are like "Apple is releasing a yellow iPhone" 2 weeks before it actually happens.

Is there a difference in OLED as used by Apple vs others (e.g. Samsung)?
Granted, it doesn't explicitly say "different", but it sure is heavily implied:

"
OLED displays are more efficient than mini-LED displays, especially with the dual-stack technology that Apple plans to use. We can expect improved battery life on the OLED-equipped iPad Pro models, and it could facilitate always-on display technology on the iPad.

OLED technology can have downsides like burn-in and issues with maximum brightness, but Apple is using technology that will mitigate these problems. Unfortunately, it could make the first iPad Pro models much pricier.

Apple is rumored to be aiming for "unrivaled" image quality, as well as a design that cuts down on the thickness and weight of the iPad display."
