How about this: A Flip-Flop Phone:Flip, not Fold please.
In the world of Phablets, we don't need another Foldblet.

That’s why you wait for the 2nd gen.I am all for it. tired of these huge phones in my pocket. but I bet there will be 1st gen problems.
Specially Sand. It’s not the crease that bothers me. It’s the durability of the hinge. I’ve watched plenty of JerryRigEverything videos where the hinge is destroyed with just a little bit of dirt. That’s the biggest engineering challenge in my eyes.
And you don’t have to buy it. It’s for those who do.I don’t want this at all
I'd be curious to know how many of us actually want a folding iPhone.
It's not something I want, and I'm not sure what purpose it serves.
You gotta respect the fact that Apple wouldn't think of releasing a fold-able phone until it was perfect. A lot of other manufacturers wouldn't care. They'd go for the quick money grab.
I would suggest not mashing your fingernails into any phone's screen, as a best practice. If this is a serious problem for you, it is definitely a you problem for sure. The crease is only part of the issue for me. The fact you can damage the display surface of current devices with just your fingernail is enough to put me off. If Apple are able to eliminate that issue too, then maybe I'd consider it.
However... even Apple can't defy current material chemistry limits.
None of what you've said is true, at least not in my case or anyone I know that has owned a foldable. I also don't see many foldable users mention what you've mentioned on foldable forums either. It is clear that you haven't owned a foldable phone in the past 2-3 years, if ever. My Honor Magic V3 is only 0.95mm thicker when folded than an iPhone 16 PM, and it actually weighs 1 gram less. The new Oppo Find N5 is only 0.68mm thicker when folded than the iPhone 16 PM and it only weighs 1 gram more.Yeah, the foldable phones have their "WoW" effect, but this effects rapidly fades away on the 100th time you have to unfold the phone with two hands to do what you want, sometimes dozens of times a day. And then there is the thickness which after few weeks becomes a bit frustrating and uncomfortable, especially if you use regular trousers. Yes, you get a bigger screen, but that's it. You gain nothing else positive, and you have all the downsides and cons. The issue for me with foldable phones is not technical (the crease is barely noticeable as you pointed out), it's about its practicality, usefulness and convenience compared to a regular phone.

Not really. These phones usually have an external screen so you could use the phone like your regular phone without ever unfolding it. You do not need to unfold your phone to use your phone.I agree. It’s one more action to access your phone and presents a weak point in its design, both the display, the hinge itself and any wires or connections between the two half’s
I don’t believer I have seen one in the wild.I have no interest in a device with a foldable display. This is one bandwagon I won’t be on.
Then what would be the point in buying it if you never unfolded it.Not really. These phones usually have an external screen so you could use the phone like your regular phone without ever unfolding it. You do not need to unfold your phone to use your phone.

You - Having to unfold the phone just to use it is an inconvenience. Then what would be the point in buying it if you never unfolded it.
It would be the biggest waste of money for anyone to do that
There are several apps on the iPad Air for editing 4k video at 60fps...And I don’t like the iPad because for the 500 bucks it costs here I expect a way better display than the one it has and it can’t do video editing so I’d have to go to my pc to edit my iPhone videos anyway.
a lot of assumptions going on in there.. we have no idea of the clarity of a screen that can bend that way.. and with great power comes great costsA foldable iPhone will have a 120 Hz display as there are no manufacturers for those kind of displays that only do 60 Hz and instead of the outdated iPad plastic laminated displays it will have an extremely thin glass layer. It will also be way more powerful than a regular iPad.
So we’ll see! I’m not in a rush but I am excited to see what Apple can come up with!
If this is the direction that premium iPhones go in then yes, there is a conceivable future where I would have to buy a device with a serious design compromise that I do not want. It’s important for people to voice their displeasure so that Apple has legitimate understanding of what the market actually wants. And you don’t have to buy it. It’s for those who do.
