This must be a Bluetooth limitation but I have noticed on my iPhone SE when typing there's a slight delay.

A tap needs to have feedback in < 20-70 msec or so. I think that the only way they could make that number would be for them to preload the audio onto the pod and trigger it.

Lol, maybe think of upgrading your phone first. You can get an iPhone 6s on the cheap now. Especially now in two weeks. Also the W-1 chip doesn’t work with the 4s if I’m not mistaken. So a lot of the appeal of airpods would be lost. Upgrading a 6 year old phone will change your life.

Yes. But buying a two year old iPhone in India is still costly.
Also I am looking forward for a SE2 (if it happens). So wanted to try airpods as a regular Bluetooth earphones.

Totally agree with the above comment. AirPods is indeed the best Apple innovation in the planet. They never fall out from my ears as others claim during weight lifting, cardio, etc. nothing can defeat its convenience, especially no cable between them and it is a total freedom feeling. Kudos to Apple
Best innovation of the universe lol .. how many other ones have u tried?

Well, I hope the experience for you with an Android phone is good as well.

Really good! Very few complaints.

I initially had to figure out a certain setting because the volume was so low, but a quick Google search fixed it and these Airpods really fit my lifestyle well.

Do they fit any better than the earbuds that come included with every iPhone? Because those just fall out of my ear.

Mine too. I had the Arpods for a week, and guess what? My ear canals are different sizes. The right holds in snugly, and I could probably listen while doing acrobatic flips, while the left ear holds the pod for 2 minutes, max.

For those saying volume control is missing: isn't that something you can control with Siri? I'd think that'd be a basic function, but maybe that's expecting too much. Or is it just that Siri is still not where it needs to be?

Is it any more goofy than having 45" of white cables hanging from your head and across your body?

I dunno... I guess I've never considered how my headphones look to other people. :p
The white buds & cord have become a pop culture icon.

Maybe the AirPods are just ahead of the curve, but I think yes, they are goofier than cables. For some reason a propeller beanie looks goofier than a baseball cap even though they're similar things.

Now I'm really confused... :)

The beanie is basically a baseball cap with an additional item: the silly propeller. And that additional item makes it the goofy one out of those two. That makes sense.

But AirPods are basically Earpods... but without the cables. They're actually a more streamlined version with fewer things.

So I'm not seeing how tiny Airpods are more goofy than a bunch of tangle-prone wires draped across your body.

But you're certainly entitled to your opinion. (I'm just kidding around with you anyway) :p

I look forward to owning AirPods someday. I still have a set of cheap Anker SoundBuds Slim. They work great and were a good introduction to the tangle-free lifestyle. I'm a believer.

The main reason I want AirPods is the carrying case. So small! No cables! Lightning charging!

I bought the jay bird 2 ones based on MKBHD recommendation and they were less than ideal. Still a wire that connected uncomfortably behind your head, and connection required holding a button like most do. Sucked it up and bought AirPods instead and they work like a dream.

And yes I do think they look a little odd but their usefulness trumps the look IMO. Maybe if they could shorten the stem some it wouldn't be as bad.

Okay Columbo.

LOL

I've had a number of the Jaybird models and have generally enjoyed them all - customer service was great too with the lifetime sweat warranty... that said, the AirPods are much better

The user experience is not that good

I'm going to have to disagree. I was on the fence about AirPods when announced, but after buying them a few months ago I have used them every day, multiple times a day. IMO they are the best thing apple has released since the iPhone (Yes, I put these above the iPad and Apple Watch.)

I use them primarily for work, they are a dream for slack calls, google hangouts, and normal phone calls. I connect them to my mac, then swap to my iPhone seamlessly when going to the gym. Amazing for listening to podcasts while cleaning or doing other chores. In all this time I have never had an issue with battery life, I plug in every 3-4 days at my desk.

The only thing I want from a new version is better controls, like an actual touch strip for volume control versus the accelerometer taps which can be finicky.

And it isn't just bluetooth...I had Jaybird X3's before the Airpods came out, and I pretty much only used those for the gym, just because swapping devices was a pain (so I only left them connected to my phone), charging was annoying (using their proprietary little clip thing, and doing it every other day), and the fit was very obtrusive (because they are in-ear, so you lose ambient sounds around you.) I still have a pair of wired AKG cans that I use when I want to solely listen to music, but for practical purposes the airpods have taken over every other audio task.

I second this whole post, except I've never been on the fence about the AirPods - they are fantastic

They're definitely great but not for $150 price tag to be honest. Also, it's getting tough switching to in-ear headphones after getting used to the sound quality of the over-ear headphones.

In my opinion, one of Apple's BEST INVENTIONS OF ALL TIME FOR THE SPACE (and I've owned ALL of Apple's products).

I am on the phone my developers sometimes 6-10 hours daily. The AirPods are an absolute GODSEND. I can listen in mono (I always have one or the other in) OR stereo at times for isolated, full-attention-needed calls. Battery lasts FOREVER in mono (just swap to a new side and drop the other in charger) and actually is similar in stereo (just drop ONE AT A TIME in the charger for 5-10 minutes when they get low and you are back in business). I always have one or the other in during the day around the office and in the car. I can now tell the difference in all of the audio notifications without bothering others (I get too many different types of notifications to rely on vibrations).

I have also found a renewed musical listening habit since getting AirPods. Whether I am alone and I pop in the INSTANT-CONNECT STEREO by adding a second AirPod -- or -- just let Pandora continue in one ear between calls, etc. the battery life (and charging process noted above) yields ALL DAY MUSIC.

The combination that Apple AirPods provide really pays for a set of Stereo Wireless Headphones with a charge case and a virtually ENDLESS SUPPLY of Mono Wireless headsets for mono phone calls because you can just keep charging them and charging them. I think I went several days on a trip once without any charging to the case and only at the very end did I hit the one time my AirPods case ran out of juice. Only took about 10 minutes on charge and the AirPods themselves were back to near-full capacity.

LOVE THEM!

(And by the way, as I've noted elsewhere, they do not fall out because there is no chord to pull them out. They only fall out when you hit your head or ear on something - and that ALSO hurts your head/ear so it is easy to notice. You also immediately notice if one falls out because the music stops - so roll over and brush your pillow if you've fallen asleep and you notice they come out because the audio stops.)

Im curious about the Audio notifications set and sourced form the iPhone. When the iPhone is NOt in vibrate mode using the hardware switch any other Bt headphones I use the audio notification is played back BOTH on the phone and in the headset (Jabra Stealth or Jabra Pulse Sport) which I find annoying not just to myself but to totters in public.

I'm hoping the W1 chip routes the sound notifications to the headphones only. Is this he case? If so then Apple has me spending $600 this month for the a AirPods and Beats Studio wireless 3's

Considering most of the competition, I don't have a problem with the price for what they are... there's clearly a lot packed into them, and while there are certainly good, cheap bluetooth headsets, I personally don't find the price unreasonable

$99 would've been the sweet spot though!

Why not wish for $49? That's even sweeter.

In the neighborhood of half the price of competing higher end BT earbuds without the W1 chip, AirPods are already (uncharacteristically) very aggressively priced. I'd also love a new Audi for $20K but given the build quality and features that's unrealistic too.

I absolutely love mine. I use them on the plane, but mostly use them for running. No issues ever with them falling out during a training run or a race. I was even super impressed with Apple's support. Last week I was flying, and the left one completely died, as in no amount of forgetting/re-pairing would make it kick back in. Next day just showed up at the Apple store where I was, and they replaced it with no issues.

I didn't wanna be too greedy :p

I’m a full time student taking 16 credit hours. I also work 40 hours a week. I bought them on my paycheck no problem. Might I suggest you work more hours, or get a not minimum wage job if you’re only bringing in $160 a paycheck.

My classes are scheduled in such a way that full time work isn't feasible, so I work 3 hours a day at night. I have $500 saved up, but that's from a summer job and I consider it an emergency fund. Probably 35% of my income goes to gas every week.

And yet... aren't AirPods some of the cheapest wireless earbuds?

There are some that are $200 or $300.

The cheapest quality earbuds, maybe. But as I said above, you can get wireless earbuds for half of that.

Until I make double what I do now, i'll stick to EarPods.
