They will be white with black ear pads. This will make the most sense while keeping the classic Apple white.

They may also offer Space Grey and Silver to go along with the standard iOS/Mac devices.

What’s the usual lead time between starting production -> announcement & sale?

I’m sure someone smarter than I has memorized the average Apple numbers on this ;)

RIP Sennheiser, Bose and Sony.

I don’t know about the other two, but Bose needs a swift kick in the behind. My QC35s have been a mess from a user experience perspective, and customer service terrible. They will be my third and last pair of Bose QC headphones.

it was also the majority opinion that it was unlikely that the iPhone would kill BlackBerry, or that the iPod would kill the Sony Walkman. But they’re are all dead nonetheless
what are you talking about..completely different scenarios, products and situations.
iPhone was game changing, but how can they possibly revolutionise headphones,(they don’t even claim they are) if anything they need to just try hard to catch up to sound/NC technology of Sony/Bose/Sennheiser.
and it’s not like Apple’s first try at headphones neither.

it will be like beats but with less hate (beats get criticism because of favouring style over sound quality mainly going back to pre-Apple ownership).

All true, but I don’t see these headphones bringing game-changing features to the table like the products you mention, though. The L/R detection is quite clever if it works, but having music channels reversed is nowhere near as much a hassle as physical chiclet keys or having to swap audio cassettes. More likely this all means that there will be “Samsung Galaxy Studios” following shortly thereafter...

Trying to find a need for these got to admit happy with the air pods pro

As much as the AirPod Pros are a great concept that absolutely has its time and place... For me, over-ear ANC is the only way to go on long flights. And the nature of work/life is that I’m on a minimum of 6-8 transpacific flights a year, so it’s a very essential piece of kit.

Or at least I was until, well, you know.

Be that as it may not everyone bought beats and not everyone will do so with these. I can still purchase in ears from plenty competitors and that to me is much more mass market than over the ear headphones.it hasn’t killed the in ears market or the market for wired models (although reduced it significantly) and I’m not convinced it will kill the mentioned companies.

and black remove the dirt? maybe your dirt is not easy seen in black but that doesn't mean that black colour is dirt proof
hah

I’d even go as faa as saying that on many black surfaces you see dirt much quicker than on white surfaces.

June🤔 I think they really missed an opportunity with timing on these. They would be great graduation gifts for The class of 2020.

Apple never really misses an opportunity with timing Lol. These will sell no matter what time of year.

I have the Beats Studio 3. I expected that with the moniker "Studio" they'd be, you know, like studio headsets. But I've found them pretty underwhelming. Pairing with my Mac is instantaneous, which is nice. The ANC is just okay. So I'm not sure what the difference in sound quality will be with the AirPods Studio.

The Beats line and AirPod line are pretttty different. Beats haven’t changed too much since Apple acquired them.

Apple puts their all into their own branded products, which I’m sure they’ll do with these. We‘ll see.

I’d be really surprised if these were anything but AirPods white.

There’s a reason why EarPods, AirPods and their $79 “in-ear earphones” only came in white.

There’s no reason why these over-the-ear headphones would only come in white. They’re big enough where the design can speak for itself even if it’s in black/gray.

I think if Apple are going to make the earcups removable and swappable, they will definitely make different colours available like the Apple Watch bands.

If someone could just help me find my missing Gen 1 AirPods that would be great. Find My never picks up anything on the map. :(

Target has had Gen 2 on sale for over a month but I don’t want Hey Siri compatibility.
It drives me nuts that you can't find them with the case closed. It won't "ring" the headphone or connect via BT to let you know you're close to them. Apple could definitely do better here.

I find headphones which completely cup over your ears are better for comfort than ones that press down on your ears as these appear to... maybe that will come with AirPods Studio Pro? :p

I agree. The problem is finding some that fit when your ears are the size of pie plates. Only brand I've found that fits me is Sony.

Beats had phenomenal marketing. Beats by Dre. you are spot on, it was style over substance but it sold. when apple bought it, i was hoping to see a mix of style and substance. they dropped all the great marketing though. kind of a head scratcher...

Smart move to lower the price on entry model iPhones (if that rumors is true) to promote buyers to get wireless headphone of choice as well.
