This leaves the door open for the use of novel materials such as ceramic or sapphire as opposed to the metals now used, I wonder if these alternatives have been looked at by Apple?

Not likely. Those materials are far too expensive, too brittle when dropped (even though they have great scratch resistance), they trap heat, they greatly attenuate radio signals, not easy to make into the curved shapes of a smartphone housing, etc.

Another data point that Apple’s industrial design team is the source of many of Gurman’s rumors. Presumably that team isn’t very big. You’d think Apple would be able to figure out who is leaking. Unless they don’t care any more?

Gurman's description of a "glass-centric overhaul" still being planned sounds like a phone with a display whose four front edges curve downward maybe about an eighth of an inch/3.2mm (OK, maybe just 3/32 inch/2.4mm), meeting with a thin metal band. Still a drop hazard without a case. Maybe Apple is working with case manufacturers to come up with case designs that won't entirely mess with the design's aesthetic.

Eh, 10th anni is pretty cool, after that, as an Apple fan, I think the only important ones are the quarters 25th, 50th, 75th etc

The 75th anniversary iPhone will be just an intelligent floating plasma cloud, which will also solve the dropping problems

Or... just a wild idea... rather than continually looking to up phone prices, why not try to get back to the £500 or so mark of 10-15 years ago. That was a much more palatable price point 🙂

I'm wondering about Apple's enthusiasm for and its ability to accurately forecast sales of its iPhone Ultra, given that Apple was so wrong about projected sales for the first iPhone Air.

And don't forget the iPhone Mini too. Oh and the Vision Pro. All failures in Apples eyes.
