Kids, I’ve been investing for 20 years and if I’ve learnt one thing it’s to never listen to analysts.

In the best case they’re doing their best guess based on recent news and in the worst case, they’re trying to push the market.

Think long term and diversify. Never chase the news.

hang on a second... apple stock downgraded as a result of nothing more than a rumour of a phone that wont launch for another year's time which nobody ever admitted was a thing... that now wont exist even though it never did...

Unlike AirPower that was actually cancelled despite being debuted on stage a few years back. Now that was a debacle, but for an unreleased phone which is still a rumor, it just boggles my mind.

Guess anyone can predict the future and become an analyst now

I treat stocks as a long-term asset that are predicated on sound fundamentals and financials not on future products or rumors. I don’t worry about the returns. If you have to worry about returns then you’re not investing in the right companies

This just hit me: the first iPhone I waited in line for hours to purchase was almost 20 years ago. Like this “glass iPhone,” I’m cancelling my birthdays indefinitely.

They had it all wrong. The 20th Anniversary iPhone should have been a redesign of the regular model: Take the chassis of the iPhone Air. Add a silicon carbon battery. Give the Ultrawide camera a 1x crop. Replace the wide camera with a 3x zoom.

Not bad. I would have liked to see them do a “retro” design, a tribute to early iPhones in terms of overall size. I’m talking no bigger than a 13 mini or a 7, but with obviously modern performance, camera, etc. Make the back/frame look like OG iPhone with two tones. Might mean slightly thicker than those early phones, but wouldn’t be thicker than current ones.

Makes me wonder how much of this is due to low production yields for the curved display, and how much was Apple actually listening to all the observations about how a phone with wraparound glass, if it wasn't in a case, would crack if dropped onto a hard surface. Maybe it's some of both, but by attributing the decision to poor production yield, Apple gets to maintain the aura of only partly listening to its users.

I'm guessing that if this technology isn't used in the 20th Anniversary iPhone, Apple is still working on perfecting it and might release a model using it at some future point. The appearance of the 20th Anniversary iPhone may still be interestingly different, maybe with a display that has a less-ambitious downward edge curvature, and a thinner metal band around its circumference.

My other guess is that Apple also still might not have fully worked out how to get the front-facing camera under the display, while maintaining the image clarity that Apple wants.

Or just profit from the clicks and adviews and new subscribers to their newsletters. The entire online publishing industry depends on getting people to click and look. What they see after they click, as long as some of it is ads, doesn’t even really matter.

This is the way engineering is done. There is an idea, a concept - dummies and mockups are produced and at a certain point you have to decide, whether it is doable or not (yet...).
Maybe the whole concept runs in a dead end - and you might want to call it "an experience".

Yup. Probably not much more than that. We've seen this before: someone in the supply or design chain leaks that Apple is working on some new design, based on prototype parts and/or documentation for them, and that therefore this "proves" Apple is going to make that design, when what the leaker saw or was told about was just one of the many prototypes Apple makes that never become an actual product or part of a product.

Then the rumors come out that Apple actually ISN'T going forward with everything the leakers originally claimed with apparent (or feigned) certainty would really be coming out.

I'm wondering about Apple's enthusiasm for and its ability to accurately forecast sales of its iPhone Ultra, given that Apple was so wrong about projected sales for the first iPhone Air.
