This fact right here doesn’t get enough lip service. So many contemporary songs are nothing but overproduced processed junk food filled with samples stolen from better songs from decades past. It’s not art, it’s necrophilia. And no it’s not cultural or racial, as even new country artists are guilty of this. It spans all new artists, and it’s just sad.
This isn’t a case of “oh well your parents didn’t like your music either etc etc,” rather it is a sideways admission that what came before is better than what they can come up with now, so to overcome that they literally steal that better music to pad out their weak product. Cast it in whatever light you want, but that’s the reality and as Tozovac rightly pointed out the majority of the music spawned in these times will be completely forgettable in a decade.
