The best way of combating counterfeit apple chargers and accessories is by lowering the price of "safe" and genuine Apple first-party accessories.

I remember an article about Apple buying 100 “genuine” apple iPhone chargers - actual number of genuine ones was zero, with 80 declared “unsafe”.
I once purchased a 2nd hand iPhone 5S and the shop provided me with a charger and a cable. It wasn't until I did a voltage test and realized both of the provided chargers and cable were counterfeit, when the output was quite a bit less than genuine ones.

It was nearly impossible to tell the difference immediately, like heck, even the touch and feeling was so similar to the genuine ones.......

I bought a magsafe charger off aliexpress. Its a fake, looks and feel is identical to real one.
The only visible difference is that it does not have the minute text on side that the genuine one does.
Electrically it does not charge at full power, dont get the double bong when placing iPhone on it.

Unfortunately its a game of wack-o-mole, Apple can shutdown one and 3 will pop-up. Wake me up when other forms of counterfeit products have ceased.

I doubt that, My Facebook Market feed has loads of fake AirPods for sale locally! Well either fake or nicked for £30 I would not risk it.

Apple should start charging reasonable prices for their accessories if they want to fight counterfeit products. A charging cable shouldn't cost more than 5-6$, a charger should retail for max 10$, wireless charger, no more than 15$ and all silicon cases should be in 10-15$ range, with leather cases should be sold for no more than 20$. Until Apple fix this, Chinese factories will continue to flood the market with look-alike products and people will continue to buy them.

I dont buy the argument about fire hazard. Apple charge you 49$ for a silicon case. I will pass!

I am sure the insurance companies will hit on this and use to it void many insurance claims by saying that because the owner did not purchase the item from a repitable retailer, the insurance claim is void. Remember, it is not the insurance companies responsibility to investigate if the item the owner used was legitmate and safe, it is the owners responsibility.

That does not solve the problem.

I don't get why people are buying knockoffs, I am buying accessories from reputable Chinese companies. Ugreen for example.

I went to an Apple store, told them, I am connecting a USB 3.1 drive and need a Type-C cable. I mentioned to the sales guy that I was fed up with bad cables that didn't work, and that I am here to buy a cable that I know will work. They proceeded to sell me a $30 white apple branded cable. When I brought it home and hooked it up, it transferred at USB 2.0 speeds. I looked at the connector and found that they didn't even have all the pins for USB SS. Apple is just as shady and make non-compliant, cheap cables too.
Looks like they sold you one of the charging cables.. seems the sales guy was not very clued up. Not sure if Apple actually make a usb c 3.1 cable outside of the ones sold as thunderbolt cables which will be pricier?

There's nothing not standard compliant about this, a usb c cable does not have to support usb 3 data transfer. I think it allows them to keep the cable thickness down, vs 100w power support and usb 3 data, though I agree it's annoying.

I don’t think that would solve the problem as selling the counterfeit item for the new lower price would still be profitable.
If there is no margin then will be no demand and no market for counterfeits. When was the last time you saw counterfeit “GrandValue” products? (Walmart brand)

But if Apple sold products at no margin to discourage counterfeiting then they’d be accused of being anti-competitive. Plus no margin on Apple products doesn’t mean there’s no margin on the counterfeit goods.

If Apple sells a charger for 29, there will be significant demand for 3rd party chargers, but if they sell it for 19 as they currently do. Most people would be okay with that pricing. If they sell lightning cable for 14.99 instead of 39.99 they will have almost no counterfeit issues.

If they sell iPhone Battery replacement for 29.99 no one will bother with 3rd party battery replacements.

If they sell Apple Watch band starting for 29.99 instead of 69.99, most people will just get the genuine one.

If they sell cases, MagSafe at reasonable price, people will overwhelmingly buy Apple accessories.

The bigger the delta, the bigger the incentive will be to shop around.

And if a counterfeiter sells all of those things for £10 less again then you still have the same problem…

Facebook market place, along with eBay have so many fake Apple Airpods and Bose headphones, it's really annoying. I have reported quite a few, and ended up purchasing from CEX.

That's not the issue. People are buying chargers they believe to be genuine Apple, but they are not.

hmmm still feel this MagSafe are not ready "wireless" charging product....getting a 12pro soon and i dont think i will get one from apple even if it's a real one ....just look at the size of it! it's so big/weighted compare to the lighting hardwired cable .

I replace iPhones (every 2+ years) before replacing cables said phones come with. Consequently, there is no shortage of cables around the house.

Right now I'm in this interregnum between USB-A and USB-C, where I have to keep both types of cables around but this too will clear in a year or two.
