The China Problem

Apple needs to realize that the Chinese government is not going to do anything to slow growth in China and could care less about a few counterfeit goods. China only needs American companies until they can produce and engineer these goods on there own, just look at Japan, after the war they were originally the cheap source of labor.

Once China has what they need they will brush American companies to the side. Apple, and other American companies should realize how China is stealing our technology, and bring production here, with enough automation it can be just as cost competitive. Look they make Lithium batteries on a large scale in Michigan now, and Intel has been here for decades.

Poor Apple, can't even control the Chinese government! Maybe they can force them to remove the i from China as punishment.

Right on. How refreshing for a government to be prioritizing the needs of its citizens rather than the profits of (foreign) corporations for a change.

Do you know that i find silly? That the vast majority of people in the western world voluntarily uphold a system that allows the current wealth-distribution to get even more skewed, despite the fact that it's infested with wrong-doings far worse than the "theft" of something as novel as "intellectual property" regarding "trademarks and design".

Now tell me: why (oh why) should the CHINESE government care more about rich, oft-times ignorant, americans than its own people?

Is it me or do we (american's) feel really lazy?

China at least try's to make complete nock-off stores.
We just try to sell painted wood, with an apple logo wrapped in bubble wrap and sold in parking lots :p

Counterfeit Apple Products

Yet one more reason why I (and most of my family and friends) boycott China as much as possible.

If I were Apple, I would be looking to move the manufacturing of any products made in China (which I know are many if not most), to another country which respects intellectual property rights. This is but one more battle in our economic war with China...

The article makes it seem these "counterfeit" Apple stores are selling KIRF, but it was reported they are selling genuine Apple products, they just aren't Apple authorised retailers.

Yes, most of these "counterfeit" stores do sell GENUINE Apple products, only the storefronts are counterfeit. I have been to the Kunming store (on the photo) multiple times in the past few years and is 100% sure that the items they sell are genuine Apple products. BUT most of these products do come from sources that are not taxed and are illegal imports or redirected exports AND many customers are able to bargain them down to a price below the Apple Retail price. <- see the reason there, that's why Apple is CRACKING them down...

And raise prices? For everything? Not feasible.

Yeah I know.

But I would be willing to pay more if this could happen. 10%. I know it would be more but with semi automated factories and the job market it would be wonderful for a company like Apple to try this. But the stockholders would not appreciate it. Too bad though.

Here is a thought, why not bring the jobs to some of the right to work states here, that way you can keep the unions out and create some jobs here.

With or without unions, isn't the US' minimum wage is higher than that of China's? If that's the case, be prepared to see even higher prices for Apple products. I seriously doubt Apple will lower their margins.

Apple needs to wake up and smell the coffee. Chinas policy on these things is quite clear. They will always look to their own people first (sounds strange, doesnt it?). This means that any consumer product not in reach for the average chinese customer will be FFA to copy. The only way to make the Chinese gov. care about claims such as this is to provide the chinese market with a product they can afford.

As I said, prices will probably rise dramatically if they were built here in the US. In some ways that would be good for the American people in that there would be more jobs. On the other hand, since labor is cheaper in China, prices could be lower, also good for the American people, just in a different way.

Here's an idea: since Apple has billions in the bank, they could just buy these counterfeit stores and make them genuine Apple Stores. Keep the same people on staff. That way, it's a win-win.

Reality

Here is a thought, why not bring the jobs to some of the right to work states here, that way you can keep the unions out and create some jobs here.

So, your willing to pay 5 times as much for Apple products? I think not. Apple would already be doing this if people would purchase higer priced products, but they simply won't.

In the 50's and 60s, every TV was made in the USA. Then someone started making them overseas (Japan) and could sell them at a lower price. People voted with their pocketbooks and force all TV manufacturers to move manufacturing to Japan.

We often hear people demanding that manufacturers move production back to the states, but then they refuse to buy any of it. It's the consumer that decides where product are made, not companies.

Well.Well, look at all the crooks liars and fools posting how Apple needs to wake up.

Problem is the Genertation today is full of lazy undeserving fools that want hands outs, not willing to fight or to work for anything.

You bunch off fools wouldn't know how to support yourselfs if the economy collapsed with out getting handouts.

All we have here is a bunch of blowhards that think they know how the real world functions but never even left the town they live in let alone leave the country of there origin.

It's funny to see how this site is full of teenybopper idiots that can't wipe there own asses or get out of there parents houses bolstering on how things should work and why everyone else is entitled to free free free everything.

Now it would be very different if you lost everything and had no home, no money, no job, and no one to turn to, but you still keep pointing to your idealist belief that only exist in your own pathetic little minds.

Look at the country involved in this story people, communist that control everything down to government telling you how many children you are allowed to have and where you can work and what type of work you are allowed to perform.

The USA is headed to that now, not because of some person, but because people are lazy and unwilling to fight for the freedoms that so many millions have died for.

Wake up, and learn to live off the land, you might think it sounds funny but in a short time everyone will be thrust in a world they will have no clue on how to survive in. It's coming sooner then you think.

Why blame a single company for protecting their rights, wouldn't you do the same to protect something you worked long and hard for, or would you just give up like cowards and walk away like all these Haters say should happen.

In any case you see some very good posts with logical information and breakdown and then you need to weed through all the regular haters that have a better way of tucking tale and running.

What side are you, a fighter or a coward....

Seems we have a mix of both.

I suggest we pull job away from China factory and move them to Vietnam or anywhere else that will respect international laws. I understand not many places have the size and scale as China, but we got to make a move sometimes.

Pay more?

Yeah I know.

But I would be willing to pay more if this could happen. 10%. I know it would be more but with semi automated factories and the job market it would be wonderful for a company like Apple to try this. But the stockholders would not appreciate it. Too bad though.

We're talking 500% more at least. Also, there is little gained by creating "semi automated" factories. Instead of using minimum-wage workers, you need highly-skilled highly-paid workers to maintain and service the "semi automated" equipment. It's a loosing proposition.

The chinese have protectionism in place and require 90% of the product be made in China to qualify for sale in China. China is trying to force jobs into the country to keep people happy and not upset about lack of employment.

That said, they are not going to allow anyone from any other country to tell them what should/shouldn't be done in any situation and will ALWAYS come up with some BS excuse as to why they can't. I love the "could frighten shoppers away" excuse myself, total BS.

Statements like this are blatantly untrue. In early 2000 we, the US, exported (source) more high tech products than we imported, and they were affordable. Sharp made TV's in the US, for export. These products were made here competitively, and can be done again, but attitudes like yours are the reason for stagnation.

HAHA! Funny guy! What an (massively) assuming troll you are. Award winning!

And, if I had my grammar-nazi hat on, you'd be cut to ribbons! If you want to spew such venom and hatred, at least learn to spell and punctuate.

It's ironic really, you spew all this hate and disgust for the ignorant, lazy Americans, but I sense a wee bit of deflection going on - a wee bit of self-loathing. Ease up man, we're all in this together so we may as well try to work together.

Cheers-

Except these stores again do not sell counterfeit merchandise, these are genuine products, just not authorised resellers (nor authorised to use Apple's branding like they do for the stores).

The story *also* talks about situations where counterfeit products *were* being made or sold. If you're going to claim someone is wrong, RTFA first.

I don't understand why people say "communist" China this and that as if it's bad.

Communist rule for decades.. and look where we are now #1 country. Better than USA. Yet USA has black president and still in trouble and in war.

Be happy, we making your iphones for you because you dont want to make yourself.

Apple is a nation or a corporation? What do YOU win if Apple move their business off China? Are you an Apple stockholder?
